Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software Alternative to Citrix Receiver?

What should one recommend to replace Citrix's XenApp Server?

A server that acts as a presentation server for remote graphical
programs, such as Writer, Calc, and Impress...or Windows graphical programs.
The programs run on various remote server resources and the programs are
displayed on the local, client computer screen just like a local application.
If anyone has used Citrix Receiver or Citrix Online Plugin, this should make
sense. XenApp may run on a server using virtualization, but I am not talking
about a hyperadvisor program.

In the spirit of Bring Your Own Device, I would like to use my Trisquel
computer to remote into my company network and use company programs without
installing non-GPL'ed software.

Also, I think it would be a good social marketing technique. If it works I
will bring it in an demo it to coworkers.

The description says This package provides the xe utility, the command-line
interface for XCP systems. This tool can be used from dom0 to control a
Debian XCP system, or from a non-Xen system to control an XCP or Citrix
XenServer system.

I have no idea what that means. :)

You could try installing it from Trisquel 6

openxenmanager looks to be an admin application to manage the servers.

I wasn't able to find xcp-xe in the Trisquel 7 Alpha repositories...is that
the client?

I was thinking more of a Free Software ICA client.

The presence of the Open Xen Manager is a good sign.

Is there a Free Software program that can open .ica files so one isn't
required to install Citrix Receiver?

I suspect the answer is, No., but there is the Remmina Remote Desktop
Client. With Citix's terrible amd64 GNU/Linux support, I was hoping they
would have published the API documentation for others to write/support
GNU/Linux. I mean the amd64 .deb still lists ia32-lib as a dependency. I am
almost certain Canonical for Ubuntu replaced that library awhile back.

Would the packages openxenmanager and xcp-xe help?
