Ad homs: (1) Dishonest? Not never but not often. More likely expressed through self-deception. (2) An arrogant son of a gun? Some of what you've written that I've read over time 'reads' that way to me. (3) A poop? As the definition is elusive, I'd give that one a pass unless it means legalist. - Original Message - From: "David Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: October 17, 2005 16:29 Subject: Re: [TruthTalk] On knowing the Father through the Son by the Spirit JD wrote: The left knows exactly then they are being ad hom and usually do "repent." Thanks Christine. Your comments, I have every confidence, are well intended though somewhat patronising. Way back on TT I employed the subject 'My theology can beat up your theology'. All theological thinking is done within the triadic structure of God/Man/World and, Divine & Contingent order. As you and your Dad mature you will grow into, one hopes, a more 'realist' understanding of the foregoing.'Til then I shall continue to appreciate the writing both of you submit to TT. JD, why can’t you just get over it whenever someone sleights you in some manner? You have such a huge ego problem IMO. (I’m taking really HUGE—you will probably rehearse this for weeks or months!) No one else on TT does this except you. I don't believe this is so JD - DavidM walks in more fear of the Lord than to operate in such a manipulative fashion. Why would he want to play these kinds of games all the while being aware that everything he does and says is open and nothing hidden from the One with whom we all have to deal (Hebrews 4:13) He would only be fooling himself. Hello again, Christine. Thanks for delineating your position, your Dad's position and, I'd suppose one held by many. Whatever 'works' for ya, guys. - Original Message - From: "Christine Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: October 14, 2005 21:31 Subject: Re: [TruthTalk] On knowing the Father through the Son by the Spirit Lance wrote: Humanity and fallibility, even with the indwelling of the HS, guarantee the mishandling of the Scriptures on occasion. Lance, this is a statement devoid of faith. Trust the Most High God. If He says He will teach you, and lead you into all truth, that is a powerful I.O.U.. I think He's good for it. It's like Treasury stock. You know it's a reliable investment. (I'm taking my first accounting class this semester, lol). That sentence is almost an irrational statement. It's like me being scared to death I'm going to get AIDS, even though I don't do anything to put me at risk. Equally, God told me He wants me to know His mind. I know it's possible to be weak and not know Him or understand His word, but He's given me the means to know and understand Him, just as I have the means to avoid AIDS (by the godly wisdom of remaining chaste and abstaining from drugs). When we lean not onto our own understanding, but trust him with all our heart, he will direct our path. To fret about the obstacles in our path is an irrational fear, because, well, He's God. That's a very lofty title, but He bears it well. It's foolish and worthless for me to worry about AIDS, when God's Holy Spirit and wisdom protects me from such things. Yes, it exists, just as our human weakness does, but He has provided the remedy: the Holy Spirit. Don't sell it so short, Lance. The truth is that some here have never mishandled the sacred text. Who would that be, David? Let's see, yo have correct me, Lance, Deegan, Bill, G, Judy, Linda ..actually I can't think of anyone you have not corrected, biblical speaking. So that just leaves you !! And I can think of several references you have misused. So, that would make Lance correct in his observations. Lance wrote: > Humanity and fallibility, even with the indwelling > of the HS, guarantee the > mishandling of the Scriptures on occasion. You could be no clearer than that, David. Please identify the one(s) who have NEVER mishandled the Scriptures on TT. (dfn:to deal with something without the necessary care or skill). Do remember, won't you, that this conversation included misunderstanding and misinterpretation. Humanity and fallibility, even with the indwelling of the HS, guarantee the mishandling of the Scriptures on occasion. . - Original Message - From: "David Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: October 14, 2005 12:44 Subject: Re: [TruthTalk] On knowing the Father through the Son by the Spirit Lance wrote: So David, you believe my observation to be FALSE!?? Mr. Moderator: Shall we break it down as follows: Did the word 'stupid' appear in an e-mail from yourself wherein John Smithson, the venerable Bishop of California, was being addressed? Mr. Moderator: On the matter of one's 'standard'. I do not perceive myself to be the 'standard' of anything/anyone. Mr. Moderator: You, once again, failed to address the heart of the matter in my ever-so-short post. You do have a way of unnecessarily 'complexifying' matters, David.
