RE: [U2] Calling SB process from VB6

2006-08-22 Thread Stuart . Boydell
Martin,
If you absolutely need to run an SB+ process, you can also use the SBCOM
object b supplied with SBClient. Combined with a login script, this will
handle login and environment setup for you. We use this component from a VB
app to call some GUI screens, which works reasonably well and reliably.
Examples are in the SBClient manual.

Stuart Boydell

I am trying to call an SB+ process from VB6 through Uniobjects. The problem

lies in establishing a login to SB. Has anyone any experience of doing
this?

Here is how to INCREASE priority on AIX, Hope it helps. I know, it's kind of
backwards. Don't shoot the messenger.
AIX-RENICE;aix-nice
renice -n 5 -p 2076946 ;*by using a positive 5 = increase nice
;*priority number, which makes it slower(+ 5 =
;*slower)
renice -n -5 -p 2076946 ;*by using a negative 5 = decrease nice
;*priority number, which makes it faster(- 5 =
;*slower)

Cheers,

When all else fails, we remote into the server console, pull up the
windows task manager and kill the process tree for those sessions. Then
we return to Universe, do a LO userid then an UNLOCK USER userid ALL.
We're on UV 10.1.18, Win 2k3, but this worked on 10.1.11, too.

The use case is responding to private email inquiries with, "Please

The server admin can create a mail.php script that includes the URL.

http://u2ug.org/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=5&bid=21&;
btitle=Main%20Menu&meid=14';
?>

The only problem there is if a PostNuke code update makes changes to the
index.php URL internally. mail.php will stop working. Yes, it's ugly.
However, all of those parameters have to be passed to index.php somehow.

We've been using the Neoware linux thin clients for years. They come
with a built-in emulator (TeemTalk) that does ADDS A2 emulation, which
we also make extensive use of. If you're going to have to install an
emulator on a thin client, the two we've had experience with are
TeemTalk and Pericom. You should check with HP first to check
compatibility since thin client OSes tend to be very customized.

Re: [U2] SB Personal Edition

2006-08-22 Thread Jeff Schasny
It took me a couple tries to get the Universe version downloaded. If I
remember correctly I was using Firefox the first time and IE the second
(which worked). The PE does not include the SB+ Client. You can use the
DynamicConnect client with some tweaking (although I've had some
problems with my older [10.0] dynamic connect client reverting to
default terminal settings) or pretty much any terminal emulator that has
a decent ANSI or VT220 emulation. After much experimentation I've had
the best luck using the AccuTerm PE client in the SCO.ANSI emulation and
the SB SCO.ANSI.CONSOLE.COL server side emulation although some of the
color combinations seem to have been picked by someone with a rather
twisted sense of humor. Everything other than file up/down load and of
course GUI seems to work fine. Its really a shame that I cant use the
GUI stuff since that was what I wanted to do this whole evolution for in
the first place.

RE: [U2] Calling SB process from VB6

2006-08-22 Thread Victor St Clair
Hello Martha

We do this using the SB.REMOTE process. Although I don't recall which
version this became available on.

Before that we had to have a phantom running that was SB aware. VB code
would call a non-SB routine that would communicate with the phantom to
request it to run the SB processes. It worked OK, but things are
definitely easier with the SB.REMOTE process.

In the documentation I am looking at , right above the excerpt you are
quoting it says :

An insert file of equate names is provided for the SELECTINFO keys.
To use the
Equate names, specify the directive $INCLUDE UNIVERSE.INCLUDE
INFO_KEYS.INS.BAS

I have no idea why they then turned around and referenced SYSCOM, which
is non-existant on any universe system that I have access to.

Straight out of the online help is the following code:

  $INCLUDE SYSCOM INFO_KEYS.INS.IBAS
  IF SELECTINFO(3,IK$SLACTIVE) THEN
 READLIST LIST3 FROM 3 ELSE LIST3 = ''
  END

Question I have is where the @[EMAIL PROTECTED] is SYSCOM located? I can't seem
to
find it anywhere. If not that then does anyone have the numeric values
for SELECTINFO(x,???)

RE: [U2] OT - Thin Clients

Consider Microsoft Terminal Services and Dynamic Connect on a Win Terminal
or Win9x old PC.
Dynamic Connect is Windows only.

Consider GUI functionality for down the road.

Subject: [U2] OT - Thin Clients

Has anyone had any experience with running HP Thin Clients instead of
the ADDS/Boundless 4000 terminals? In particular, I'm looking at either
the HP T5520 and the HP T5525.

I like the T5525 because of it running Linux (over the T5520 running
Windows CE), and that the T5525 has 256MB Flash Memory (over the T5520
which has 64MB). They both have 128MB RAM. But the T5520 is a little
cheaper (which really isn't going to be the dealbreaker), but it does
include Terminal Emulation software and more importantly it has the ADDS
A2 emulation that we need. If we do get the T5525, does anyone know of
any emulation software that has the ADDS A2 (or viewpoint) that runs on
a thin client machine?

Thanks for any advice, input or help.

RE: [U2] OT - Thin Clients

2006-08-22 Thread Anthony Dzikiewicz
Marc,

Have you considered the WYSE thin clients ? I had evaluated some about
a year ago. I thought the software on the WYSE did have VP emulation
built in. Of the thin clients I looked at, I also liked the linux
versions. The one windows based thin client that I looked at from
Neoware was running windows and crashed not more than 10 minutes out of
the box.

It's leftover from PR1ME INFORMATION. All the insert files for PRIMOS
and dependent sub-systems were stored in the SYSCOM directory on MFD 0.
So I'd guess that someone forgot to clean up the documentation.

[U2] Date formatting in UniQuery

2006-08-22 Thread Rich Harrington
Ola Bruce:

I've been using the TO DELIM extract method almost exclusively. You can
pretty much wrap any unibasic command in an EVAL"..." statement (including
the all-powerful file translate OCONV(MyField,TFilename;X;;FieldNum) ).
Dates are formatted with EVAL"OCONV(MyField,'D4/')". Note that any UniBasic
syntax requiring quotes inside an EVAL need to be wrapped in single quotes
else you short-circuit the EVAL.

Multivalue fields containing multiple dates are still a problem though.

If useful, You can pick the first value in multivalue date by using the
'FIELD' command:

EVAL"OCONV(FIELD(OCONV(MyField,TFilename;X;;FieldNum),@VM,1,1),'D4/')" *
Look up a multivalue date in another file, select the first one, and format
it as "m/d/"
or the last with

EVAL"OCONV(FIELD(OCONV(MyField,TFilename;X;;FieldNum),@VM,DCOUNT(MyField,@VM),1),'D4/')"
Look up a multivalue date in another file, select the last one, and format
it as "m/d/"

However, if you are working in Microsoft on the desktop (Excel, Access VBA,
VB) you can add the constant 24837 to any unidata internal format date and
convert it to a VB DateTime field.

Sample query using EVAL and date formatting:

LIST STUDENT.NON.COURSES EVAL"OCONV(STNC.PERSON.ID,'TPERSON;X;;1'):',
':OCONV(STNC.PERSON.ID,'TPERSON;X;;3')" STNC.PERSON.ID
EVAL"OCONV(OCONV(STNC.PERSON.ID,'TPERSON;X;;14'),'D4/')" STNC.CATEGORY
STNC.TITLE STNC.NON.COURSE EVAL"OCONV(STNC.START.DATE,'D4/')" STNC.SCORE
STNC.PCT ID.SUP NOPAGE TO DELIM "|" _HOLD_/_PSC_ST_NonCourses.txt

In this case in our enviroment the
EVAL"OCONV(OCONV(STNC.PERSON.ID,'TPERSON;X;;14'),'D4/')" looks up the
birthdate using the Person key and formats it as a date.

Note the NOPAGE command which suppresses the need for user intervention for
the query to complete.
