I would like to ask someone to add murrine engine into *at least*
universe, because supporting for free the ubuntu community is becoming
a little difficult for me since at the moment I haven't an ubuntu box
on my pc (so i can't package).

That should be feasible, it's not too late to upload to universe.
Please join #ubuntu-motu and ask them to help you there.

Don't forget, my Tropic theme (to be included with Edgy) depends on
gtk2-engines-murrine (of course, I've loved your engine to bits!), so it
should be in the main repository!

We're past BETA already, it's too late to add anything else to main.
We've a very clear, published release schedule and you need to work
within that if you want bits on disk.

 Mark

Oh...hold it: What about the community themes? Tropic was one of those
themes! Guess I've got a little decision to make: Switch it to a
different engine, see if it can be included in Universe instead (like
maybe gtk-theme-tropic?) or just don't care about it at all! Note that I
already sent the full tarball with the Murrine version to Frank, you'll
have to maybe work it out with him. I really wanted to use Murrine, but
if you have to change it to use Ubuntulooks instead of Murrine, use this
metacity instead...

For anything regarding the Theme Team efforts I will take the blame

Probably murrine is ready for universe... a mantainer is packaging it.
I'll keep you informed.

Cimi - Andrea Cimitan

In case of a situation where Murrine can't be included with Ubuntu (84%
likely), I have made a new version of Tropic which uses Ubuntulooks
instead of Murrine...

[ubuntu-art] [polish] GRUB boot screen

2006-09-30 Thread Viper550
Okay, I had to use a greyscale design so it wouldn't look weird
dithered, but at least this screen does go with some of the elements
defined in the new wiki page I heard about:

This splash screen has 3 major elements

- The feeling of gloss
- The Trademark Curve
- Minimal but Effective branding

So, think this would work good as the GRUB splash screen? Come on, I
can't believe that a distro aimed at newer users...doesn't have a nice
pretty background on the boot menu! :D

Why is the border between the dark and the light tone kind of blury?
Also if you would create an 'S' shape for the gloss, like the one on
the folder, would improve it. And the logo is too close to the edge.
 Otherwise, I like the idea.

My points:
* I like the blurred effect
* The logo should indeed be equidistant from the top and right edges.
Currently, it is nearer the right than the top. Moving it left a tad
would do the trick.
* Would the white font (I'm guessing that's the colour to be used) show
up as well at the top of the menu on the grey background than the bottom
(on the black)?

Otherwise, great job!

Thanks, the text colors that GRUB applies when it is used with a
background is white with a black shadow. Later today I'll fix it up, and
maybe make an SVG (I used Fireworks MX to make that, it's got some
vector support, but only in it's own PNG files, and I exported it so I
could get it down to 14 colors, but I can easily edit the logo placement
with the normal bitmap tools).

[ubuntu-art] please replace question icon

2006-09-30 Thread David Prieto

Most icons on dialogues have been replaced by their tango counterparts, much more beautiful and modern. The question icon has not, though, which makes it stand out. So it should be replaced ASAP IMO.

I'll attach the tango icon, as well as example images of dialogues using it and the classic one.

Hmm .. I'd love to see this in edgy ! The image could be a little better ..- The logo slightly less to the edge.- The Blurred border should go.- Maybe even drop *rounded* things because it really scales awful on widescreens or high-res screens ;)
But still .. even if the image doesn't improve a lot .. its 100* better then the current ( ugly ) grub :)Nice work, great idea !Cheers2006/9/30, Viper550

Hmm. I think the logo's still a bit too far left. I did a quick edit
from the original. I took the logo's circle top- and right-most pixels
to the edge of the image, and moved equally down and left until it look
alright. I'm attaching the xcf and png so you can see.

And I just tried them on my system, and Lord! was it ugly. There were
only two colours: grey and white, with the white outlining all the
distinctive objects, and the grey being the rest. I don't think I did it
wrong, but rather Dennis was right in that the splash doesn't work on
many systems.

Just my 2 cents:
I think Toby's logo placement is a bit nicer. Also, I agree with the
previous post about changing the single curve to an s-curve. Still,
very good work!
