I'm hoping to prevent this similarity and try to create a greyscale version with curves similar to the one i'v already created. not the same , it will need more modification if it has to be displayed properly in all panels as greyscale. and if i succeed in making one then we could create similar look for the breathe notify-osd icons. But since this discussion is more towards the icons in the breathe icon set , *Cory* what do u think? greyscale or use these present color icons for breathe? cheers, mac_v -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

Hi all, Who would be interested in having an irc meeting to discuss current and future community related design issues? Issues which come to mind are: * breathe * wallpaper competition: getting the word out, coordinating the effort properly, free culture showcase, etc. * various issues around karmic * human icon inventory/cleanup * community and extra themes for Karmic * continuing to improve the wiki * whatever else comes to mind :) So who would take part? -- Kenneth -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

For Ubuntu and the theme it sets as default, the notification icons should be differently styled versions of the same metaphors used in the panel. Other themes are free to do as they please but in order to integrate well with the overall Ubuntu desktop a theme should think twice about doing anything radically different. Naturally Ubuntu is always trying to improve so if something comes along which is different but better than what we currently use we would certainly entertain the idea. The notification icons shown in notify-osd on a default ubuntu install were designed by Canonical to integrate with the style of the notify-osd bubble on which it is displayed and have a very distinct design. Because the icons in notify-osd are designed specifically for the bubbles the only parts which should be re-used elsewhere is the form. IE we are not suggesting that anyone make a entire theme of icons based on the notify-osd design :) The panel placement and size require a different design than large semi-transparent icons on semi-transparent background with gaussian blurred shadows ;) -- Kenneth -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

Anything that shows up in a notification is an OSD icon. Note that Canonical has defined the style for the OSD icons quite specificialy. This style is only to be used for the official canonical notify-osd look. Re: [ubuntu-art] [Breathe] Network Manager-icons
@Oliver... Actually the paleness is lost when the present icon scales down to 24px... but i tried ur idea. and i'v attached the screenshots of the icon in action on a 19px panel... oh and the panel is vertical on the right just to get u oriented. i think that the presence of the gradients adds the minor feel of lighting, also if the colors get a bit more darker then the visibility of the icon in dark/transparent panels becomes tough. especially in the transparent panels , where the backgrounds vary . cheers, mac_v attachments legend: gradient-is the present icon darker-is with a bit darker shade and no gradients panel-is the present icon on a transparent panel.
