Re: using a usb turbo modem

2010-06-14 Thread Simon Ives
Hi Terry.

I recently purchased a Telstra Turbo modem for work (Sierra Wireless USB
301) and it just works with Ubuntu 10.04 (also on 9.10, haven't tested it on
any other versions). What is written on the bottom side of the modem and
what Ubuntu version are you using?

Regards.

While it should just work and many do if it does not can you please
provide some information Telstra helpfully lables all their modems
Telstra something or other however they are actually rebranded from a
variety of different manufacturers. Often the device will have some
more information on it such as the manufacturer and a model number.
Otherwise if you can give a description of the device and how and when
you got it and what service you are on (Telstra mobile plan, Telstra
prepaid, or Bigpond) I should be able to figure it out. I used to work
for Telstra and in my spare time would play with the new usb modems.

It should just work, my wife recently bought one, after activating it
she just plugged it in and away she went.

Terry,

I'm not sure what model USB device you have from Telstra but
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AustralianTeam/Projects/WirelessBroadbandInformation
has a few different listed Telstra USB devices and most seem to work
with minimal effort. If you find out what device it is and it's not
listed there (or the listed instructions don't work) just let us know
what model it is and we can all help troubleshoot.
