Re: charter/policies

2022-11-30 Thread Dan Streetman
After discussion in today's backports team meeting, all content has
been removed from the charter page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports/Charter
and the policies page has been updated:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports/Policies

Please review the updated policies page, as I'd like to call a vote to
approve it as our official team rules/policies at the next team
meeting, on Dec 21.

Thanks!

agreed; I updated the page with this change:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports/Charter?action=diff&rev1=13&rev2=14

as well as adding a small clarification for 'casting vote':
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports/Charter?action=diff&rev1=14&rev2=15

ack, updated with:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports/Policies?action=diff&rev1=12&rev2=13

let me know if you think we should add more detail to what needs to be
provided in the application email; or if we want a full application
wiki page (I think we probably don't need that?)

To clarify, you mean the chair should have only a casting vote? Not
both a normal and casting vote, right? And to be sure I understand -
by 'casting vote' you mean a vote used only to break a tie.

If it's a choice between only a normal or only a casting vote, I think
I'd prefer the chair have just a normal vote (which could speed up
voting in the case of missing members), but I'm ok with a casting vote
instead.

If you mean having an additional casting vote (in addition to the
chair's normal vote), I would probably lean towards just letting tie
votes fail, but if you think it would be better to allow an
(additional) casting vote for ties, I'm ok with that.

Hello hello,

I still find weird that this document doesn't include a provision that
requires the TB to ACK any change to it, but I understand that they
don't want it, so meh…

The document states that the team chair will be "approved" (? should
this be "appointed" instead?) with a process specified in the Policies
page, but I can't seem to see a paragraph describing that. TBH, I would
just list it in Charter §5.3 instead, just saying "The chair shall be
elected with a majority vote within the current team members; the
current chair has a casting vote" or something similarly simple. This
is so to avoid another possibly useless cross-document reference.

Can we drop the possibility of people joining the team with just a IRC
meeting agenda item? I really want a full email with link to LP
profile, etc... else my mind really can't work on it.

The voting doesn't seem to have any provision for a casting vote? (which
"obviously" should be in the hands of the team chair (which… in case the
meeting chair is a different person, the casting vote is still in hands
of the team chair, hopefully it's obvious).

These details are the only points I have to make on the two documents.

Thank you for working on them, and sorry it took me forever to read
through them -.-

Re: charter/policies

2022-09-28 Thread Dan Streetman
As a reminder, please review the charter and policies pages; I would
like to call a vote at next week's meeting to approve both of these,
or at least gather all comments or needed changes. I feel it's
important to get this done.

Thanks.
