[Bug 184078] Re: keyboard stops working until logout

2008-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
(Subscribing mpt since he had an issue this morning that sounds vaguely
similar.)

lcampagn, a few questions?
1. Does this affect only the keyboard, or is the mouse / touchpad affected as
well?
2. Do any keys on the keyboard work? Try ctrl-alt-F2, CAPSLOCK, tab, arrow
keys, etc.
3. Can you cause X to restart using ctrl-alt-backspace?
4. Which window manager are you using? Compiz? Metacity? KDE? other?

An IRQ conflict could indeed produce an effect like this. Can you
attach your /proc/interrupts file so we can check if there are duplicate
irq's in use?

So, I ran upgrade-manager -d as a test on a laptop sitting in front of me

So, going to defer doing it to my mom's machine 'till I figure out what

[Bug 118174] Re: Network seems dead after disconnect

2008-01-22 Thread Jimmy Merrild Krag
Solution for those who do not use a manually configured interface:
You can get the shared password decrypted at
http://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~massar/bin/cisco-decode
If you setup a VPN profile via the NetworkManager applet, it should work like a
charm when disconnecting. It did for me, untill I changed to a manually
configured static IP :)

2008-01-22 Thread Andrea Colangelo
Thank you for your bug report and for taking time to make Ubuntu better.
In your bug report you didn't attached debdiffs that sponsors can use to upload
the merge. You probably want to read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Merging to get more informations on
merge requests and workflow.
Furthermore, this version of opencryptoki requires a sync rather then a merge.
Closing this but as invalid.

kde4-style-qtcurve (0.55.2-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. (LP: #183435)
  * debian/rules:
- Build both plain Qt4 and KDE4-enabled (-kdeconfig) versions. Therefore,
switched from cdbs to plain debhelper, as two builds are required

- Added -kdeconfig package.

- Build-depend on chrpath to strip KDE4 library rpaths.

[Bug 185082] Re: Suspend/resume in Dell Latitude D820 not working OK

2008-01-22 Thread Juan-Carlos Amengual
More info: today's experience (till now :-)

In kpowersave, I have configured the general settings to suspend to
RAM when lid close button in button events.

1. This morning: I turned the laptop on an began to work. Then I had to go to
another desk, so I closed the lid (like I used to in Feisty). Automatically
laptop went into suspend mode as in Feisty. Everything OK.
2. When I arrived to the other desk, I opened the laptop, then it resumed and
after almost 30 seconds of tension :-) the screen showed my KDE desktop OK...
¡but the sound didn't work! (even restarting artsd) Modules were loaded, no
error message at all, but I couldn't listen to any sound. Well, I kept on
working till the moment of returning at my desk.
3. Then, I closed the lid ... ¡and nothing happened! Laptop didn't go into
suspend mode. Well, that was annoying, but I right clicked in the kpowersave
icon and chose the suspend to RAM option. Then, laptop went into suspend mode
and I closed the lid.
4. Now, I am at my desk. I have opened the lid and laptop has resumed.
Everything is OK (not like yesterday, for instance): X is OK (KDE desktop OK),
everything OK ... ¡¡¡and now sound works perfect!!! :-¿? I can listen to system
sounds, music, ... even tried to play a xvid movie with mplayer and everything
was OK.

To be continued... ;-)

[Bug 185093] trackerd memory leak?

2008-01-22 Thread canalside
Public bug reported:

Architecture: amd64
Version: 0.6.3-0ubuntu3

Trackerd seems to have a memory leak, I found this creating deleting
about 85 small (0-2k) temporary text files every minute. After 30
minutes the process was running at half speed, after 4 hours the process
had virtually stopped and 'top' showed trackerd to have used up all of
the physical memory and 77% of the swap. I switched off trackerd,
rebooted and restarted the process, it has been running for a week since
with no memory increase or performance degradation.

Even if it worked perfectly trackerd should be OFF by default, as a DBA
I know that you do not add indexes that impact the system performance
unless there is a compelling reason, and the service provided by
trackerd isn't. It is pointless on an 'ordinary' desktop with a small
number of files in $HOME and there are better tools for searching large
numbers of files.

[Bug 185098] dellBiosUpdate tries to open nonexistant file /sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu/loading

Running the command under strace shows the following error repeteadly ocurring
access(/sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu/loading, F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file

That file does not exist, but /sys/class/firmware/firmware-

[Bug 34155] Re: Suspend-To-Ram (S3) doesn't work on Dell Latitude C640

2008-01-22 Thread coonj
I have a similar problem on a Fujitsu P7010D (w/ Intel Extreme graphics
2 chip), and was able to get the video back only if I initiated a
reboot:

  - Successful suspend
  - on resume, mouse is visible but the screen is white/black/green stripes
  - If i bring up the Quit dialog (via Alt+Ctrl+Del), I can kind of see where
the box is on the screen, and I know where to click for Shutdown, so I do that
  - Immediately, the video comes back! Everything looks great, but I had
initiated Shutdown for the to happen, so that is not a solution!

But, I think it is worth mentioning that the video does come back during the
Shutdown process, and it is almost immediate, so it is something that runs near
the beginning of the shutdown script.

If you are upgrading, you need to remove your ~/.glipper directory.
After I did this, glipper ran fine. Glipper is now a gnome panel applet
(hence no binary in /usr/bin). It doesn't have a separate launcher
anymore, so you need to use Add to panel . Cheers.

wrote:

 lcampagn, a few questions?
 1. Does this affect only the keyboard, or is the mouse / touchpad

Keyboard only, mouse works fine.

2. Do any keys on the keyboard work? Try ctrl-alt-F2, CAPSLOCK, tab, arrow
 keys, etc.
 3. Can you cause X to restart using ctrl-alt-backspace?

ctrl-alt-backspace and ctrl-alt-f2 do not work. I have not tried
capslock.

4. Which window manager are you using? Compiz? Metacity? KDE? other?

KDE. What's interesting is that I do not need to restart X to get the
keyboard working again, just log out. Next time I'll try just closing
knetworkmanager and see if that helps.

An IRQ conflict could indeed produce an effect like this. Can you
attach your /proc/interrupts file so we can check if there are duplicate
 irq's in use?

Attached.

[Bug 184692] Re: [Hardy] screen turns blank when X loading, ATI X1250

2008-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Unfortunately, lacking the log files is going to hamper debugging this
issue, but perhaps there's some alternate techniques that could help...

First, when using th e alpha2 cd, try running sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop quickly
before X freezes. If you're lucky, this may shut off X before it locks up.
Second, have you tried using a 64-bit version? Same issue, or does it work
properly?
Third, have you tried installing using the alternate CD? It may skip the step
that causes the X failure.

Fwiw, this bug sounds a lot like bug 127008, however afaik xresprobe is
no longer being used during LiveCD boot. You could check via 'which
xresprobe' - in theory it should no longer be present on the system.

[Bug 185107] xen-tools needs to add udev file to handle xen network interfaces under gutsy

2008-01-22 Thread Matt Mossholder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xen-tools

Gutsy's persistent network interface naming udev rules are causing Xen
instances to have a new network interface name each time a DomU is
booted. This is because Xen is dynamically generating a MAC for the
DomU, and the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file stores the
persistent name based on the MAC address. Rules like the following
resolve the issue:

SUBSYSTEM==net, SUBSYSTEMS==xen, DRIVERS==vif,
ATTRS{nodename}==device/vif/0, NAME=eth0
SUBSYSTEM==net, SUBSYSTEMS==xen, DRIVERS==vif,
ATTRS{nodename}==device/vif/1, NAME=eth1
etc

I have been adding them to /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules manually,
but they should probably be handled elsewhere.

[Bug 185105] KDE Print substitutes fonts which are available on system

2008-01-22 Thread Marvin Hankley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

I have installed a commercial OpenType font (Adobe Garamond Premier Pro)
on my system using the KDE System Settings | Appearance | Font
Installer. The font files were installed in ~/.fonts .

The font is available to display in applications. Set as the default
font in Konqueror, web pages are rendered correctly on-screen using this
font. However, if I try to print (I have tried printing to a local PDF
or to a network printer), the resulting file/printout has the font
substituted with another. The same behaviour occurs when using KWord.

However, If I try this same experiment with Firefox (which does not use
the KDE Print system), the font appears correctly in the output.

[Bug 185009] kubuntu login dialog freeze

2008-01-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a Gutsy kubuntu version.

When I try to login as a user and I enter wrong password hitting twice
the return button the login dialog freezes and I can't re-enter the
right password. All the buttons works fine but the dialog is locked. I
have to hit Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to reset X Window Server and unlock the
login dialog.

[Bug 185112] Please sync torcs 1.3.0-2 (universe) from Debian (unstable)

2008-01-22 Thread Jérôme Guelfucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: torcs

Please sync torcs 1.3.0-2 (universe) from Debian (unstable).

Explanation of why Ubuntu delta can be dropped:
- Ubuntu delta consisted in patches which have just been added to this version
of the Debian package.

Debian Changelog:

torcs (1.3.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Reworked dependencies, now using libgl1-mesa-dev. mesa GLX libs are not
actually used.
  * Not running autoconf and automake before compiling, this causes configure
to ran again and loses arguments.
  * Exclude xrandr from configure to workaround OpenAL bug when it can't open
a sound device (Closes: #445806)
  * Removed Application category and FilePattern to match FreeDesktop specs
from .desktop entry.
  * Upgraded to debian policy 3.7.3, no changes need

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi,
In Ubuntu 7.10, you can configure several profiles in through network-admin,

2008-01-22 Thread Matthias Klose
- upstream == debian, so it's strange that the activity status is that different
- the package done by debian is outdated (2.2.0); please update to the 2.2.1
release for hardy
  see http://www.networkupstools.org/source/2.2/ChangeLog
- the shared libraries should be split out into its own binary package; there
is at least one more
  package build-depending on net-dev.

[Bug 175597] Re: KDE: Error - KIOExec: error messages when opening links from system menu

2008-01-22 Thread Sven Boden

I'm running hardy alpha-2 since a couple of weeks installed on a real harddisk.
The bug still appears:
- Left click on the trash icon on the right hand side in the taskbar
- Click on Open in new window
- A dialog will appear with the message Malformed URL trash:/, the dialog
title is Error - KIOExec ...

(the number of items in the trash can when I hover over it is as
expected)

Most users will hit this bug.

Sven

Re: [Bug 116460] Re: cannot update any package or security update

2008-01-22 Thread Elio Bezerra da Silva
A minha atitude foi radical; desinstalei o programa e comecei do zero. Aliás
estou recomeçando. Estou aprendendo muito com esse programa. Bom, não sei te
aconselhar, eu também sou iniciante. Tô quebrando a cabeça, mas eu gosto. Um
abraço,

[Bug 73931] Re: login in nested window dies changing workspace

2008-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Yes, xephyr is to be preferred over xnest these days, since xnest
doesn't support as many of the newer extensions. I think xnest may not
be as well supported upstream anymore.

Reassigning to gdm as a wishlist item to switch from xnest to xephyr.

[Bug 164955] Re: [gutsy] network-admin does not update WPA PSK

2008-01-22 Thread Filiprino
Uh, after a few reboots, it seems that I have to manually retype the passphrase
on the network-admin dialog, because it gets changed to a very long string.
Once I retype it and close the properties dialog of the wireless adapter, the
internet connection starts working again.
I think this is the exact bug reported in the first message, and I was
suffering another bug related to strings representation.

Unfortunately the automatically collected info did not include a usable
backtrace. Please install the debug symbol package for xserver.

Also, can you please provide the following data?

1. Detailed steps to recreate the crash
2. /var/log/Xorg.0.log from after the crash
3. output of lspci -vvnn
4. /etc/X11/xorg.conf

[Bug 94837] Re: Keyboard refuses to work properly

2008-01-22 Thread HueponiK
OK. I'm plugged in PS/2 Keyboard.

I'll try to go through
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKeyboardDetection guide.

Keyboard - Genius SlimStar pro, usb wired connection, have built-in
passive 2-port usb hub.

Right now, my USB keyboard now behaves different way (from what was on feisty)
- it does not work at all. just Numlock led is on. Prevously, it stopped
responding after pressing shift (i dont remember which key exactly).
When I'm pressing NumLock at my PS/2 keyboard, nothing happens at usb one -
NumLock led still on.

[Bug 185106] Please sync scribes 0.3.3.3-1 (universe) from Debian (unstable)

2008-01-22 Thread Jérôme Guelfucci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scribes

Please sync scribes 0.3.3.3-1 (universe) from Debian (unstable).

There are no Ubuntu changes. Debian changelog:

scribes (0.3.3.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. Closes: #460430.
  * debian/control:
- Make scrollkeeper build dependency non-versioned. Closes: #459477.
- Bumped Standards to 3.7.3, no changes needed.
  * debian/control, debian/rules:
- Change python-all-dev build dependency to
  python2.5-dev | python-dev (= 2.5), as upstream now needs python2.5.
- Change XS-Python-Versions to = 2.5.
- Change /usr/bin/scribes hashbang to python2.5 in debian/rules, so
scribes is started properly and works.
  * debian/rules:
- Move debhelper stuff to binary-indep since the package is arch: all.
- Call dh_icons, since we have icons in /usr/share/pixmaps and
  /usr/share/icons
