[Bug 405828] Re: fsck always fails (superblock last write time in future) on ext4
On Tue, 2009-07-28 at 14:16 +, Alexander Hartl wrote: I have installed ubuntu 9.10 alpha 3 with the kernel 2.6.31-4-generic and I converted my partitions from ext3 to ext 4 following this manual: http://biete.com/?p=182. With my home partition this worked without any trouble, but when I tried it with my root partition I got the error /dev/sda1: Superblock last write time is in the future. FIXED. when I rebooted. Then the system restarted. But during this restart the error occurs again, so I am not able to boot ubuntu anymore, because it always reboots. When I run fsck.ext4 from a ubuntu 8.10 live cd it tells me that the filesystem is clean. From the sound of it, you don't have a UTC/localtime issue (in any case they always affected people WEST of UTC), but let's just verify that. Before AND after you run fsck.ext4 on the Live CD, please run the following two commands and provide the output: date sudo hwclock --show Then reboot the full system and press ESCAPE at the GRUB menu, highlight the (recovery mode) option, *EDIT* it (don't boot), *EDIT* the linux/kernel line and add init=/bin/bash to the end. Boot that, it'll drop you into a shell fairly quickly. Run those two commands again, also provide the output of grep UTC /etc/default/rcS Now reboot -f, select recovery mode again (boot it this time) and allow the fsck to run. After it completes, before rebooting, run the three commands again and provide the output. This sounds similar to a problem that I experienced yesterday. I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.04 recently and formatted every partition to ext4. Yesterday, I was moving huge video files from my home directory to a removable USB hard disk (formatted to ext4 as well) when the system froze permanently (i.e. all hard disks stopped running completely). Yesterday, I was moving huge video files from my home directory to a removable USB hard disk (formatted to ext4 as well) when the system froze permanently (i.e. all hard disks stopped running completely). I did this with a couple of my other removable USB hard disks and the same thing happened many times. The problem can be replicated by copying or moving files within the same IDE hard disk as well. Just a while ago, the system froze when I emptied Trash. The computer has Windows XP installed, and no such problem problem occurs when I'm running it. However, as far as I know, I have not experienced any data loss. With reference to a few of the comments made above, I have more than 40Gb on every partition at any time, so the locking up seems unrelated to the amount of free hard disk space that one has. -- Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 405430] Re: kwin 3.0 memory leak
Thank you for your bug report. However, Kwin3/KDE3 are unmaintained by KDE, so this bug will not be fixed. Thanks for caring enough to report it all the same. Furthermore, the Kubuntu 8.04 release, unlike Ubuntu 8.04, is not an LTS release (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu- devel/2007-December/002066.html , http://blog.nixternal.com/2007.12.20/kubuntu-804-featuring-kde-4/) meaning that unlike Ubuntu it will only recieve its security updates until October of this year. ** Changed in: kdebase (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- kwin 3.0 memory leak https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
