UDD importer making a nuisance of itself with v3 source format branches
I've just had a conversation with cjwatson and slangasek on #ubuntu-release about the importer making a nuisance of itself by declaring a perfectly reasonable commit to be a collision / difference, and replacing it with one of its own. The key pain point here is the .pc/ directory. It's practically impossible to maintain a .pc/ directory checked into VCS without unnatural jumping through hoops. As a result, packages being seriously developed in bzr by humans, rather than being primarily imported, tend NOT to have a .pc/ : cjwatson patches applied doesn't have to imply .pc in vcs; it's unfortunate that the importer took that particular decision cjwatson (I've been using patches-applied-in-bzr since well before the importer did, *without* .pc) I think, as a short term fix, we should modify the collision-is-clean check to ignore the absence of a .pc directory in packager-committed revisions. Please have a think and let me know about any objections - we should probably treat this as urgent since it causes severe annoyance with UDD. [ubuntu-uk] Viglen MPC-L, what now?
I know a few other UK Ubuntu people bought the Viglen MPC-L a few years back. I've got one sitting on my shelf doing nowt (I've got another machine to do what the Viglen used to, plus a lot more). With 586 support no longer in Ubuntu (okay, still got three years to go on 10.10), and it being a tad slow, I'm wondering what to do with it. problems with alt+tab again
Hi all. Today, after reboot my machine, I discovered that I can not use alt+tab to switch to another application. Hello, Charlie. do you use any screen magnification on your Linux distribution? If in Ubuntu's Unity you can make use of the Compiz eZoom plugin (which I would often rely on under Unity), and under GNOME Shell, there is a great built-in magnifier which can greatly magnify the screen (even more than the eZoom plugin). I am planning on writing a blog entry pretty soon on how to get magnification up and running under both Unity and GNOME Shell. Unfortuantely, I do not think that a magnifier exists for the GNOME Fallback Session at this time. If this could be of help to you please let me know, and I will try to write back with teh steps to set up zooming keys. Just please let me know which desktop environment you use. There is also a Zoom feature under KDE as well which works pretty well. I hope that I can be of some help to you. Take care. Thus my playing with DPI to grow the text large enough to see and read it. I have not played much with Compiz eZoom, myself. I am just getting back into a position where I will be able to get involved again, and will be updating documentation for all the Accessibility items in the next cycle. In the meantime, I shall continue to attempt to get some information out for the Google developers, who seem to be lacking in experience as far as Accessibility goes. Whether or not I am successful will be determined by how accessible we manage to get google, right? It may be a long battle to keep Google thinking of improving accessibility to its products, but it is indeed worth the fight. The battle for accessibility to any company's product is worth it, even though it may be long, hard and even frustrating at times. Although many Linux distributions have had some form of screen reading technology for more than 10 years, it has been only about 5 years since we have had a usable screen reader in GNOMW, and even less since we've had magnification. But look how far we've come; it's been well worth the time, energy and effort it has taken to make it all work as well as it does today, and it's still improving every day. Heck, even Windows has taken a giant leap forward in accessibility, with the availability of NVDA, and that has only happened within the past 4 years, and Windows accessibility is even now improving. I have had the pleasure of owning my first Android phone for about a month now, and it already is a giant leap ahead of any other phone I used in the past, and that is even taking into account the fact that I went with the lowest price I could find because of my extremely tight budget. All these OS's and platforms have a great need for more improvement, but it is very easy to see what can happen when we fight the long hard battle to gain equal access to as many products as possible at equal prices to what someone with fully functional eyes, ears, etc. would pay. I'm not sure what else was said in this thread, since I don't see it attached below, but the accessibility of Google Apps has improved dramatically over the last year or so. I have to spend quite a bit of time for my job in Google Docs, and I typically do this in a virtual machine running Windows where I get to Google Docs with Chrome and ChromeVox. It takes some getting used to, but I'm finding it quite usable. I've heard that Chromium plus ChromeVox plus Lois TTS should just work in Linux, but after getting sighted assistance to help install everything, it didn't just work for me. I still need to investigate this further, but Linux isn't a priority for the Google accessibility guys right now. I also use GoogleCL, a command line tool that runs in Ubuntu, to list and download Google Docs, so I can use them with Libre Office. I find I can do most everything I need to in Google Calendar now just using Firefox and Orca. I'm also finding now that I need to use Google Plus more and more for my job. I can usually figure out most things, given enough time, but it definitely isn't an enjoyable experience. If memory serves, Google was threatened with a law suit over accessibility and the fact that so many schools and universities were switching to Google Apps. I think this compelled google to put more effort into making Google Apps accessible last year. Unfortunately though, I don't think this extended to Google Plus. There was a petition going around a few months ago asking Google to make Google Apps more accessible. I signed the petition and included in the comments that it should extend to Google Plus since I see small businesses taking advantage of what it has to offer, which is coming to pass with the company I work for. A useful tool: seeded-in-ubuntu
Two weeks from release, now that we're pretty much at final freeze, it's worth mentioning a tool we added to ubuntu-dev-tools, last cylcle: seeded-in-ubuntu. If you haven't come across it, yet, here's a brief description: It can be hard to tell whether it's safe to touch a package, when the archive is frozen. The Tasks on binary packages don't corrospond directly to the presence of a package on a CD image. And during freezes, it's the stability of the CD builds that matters. So, we have a job that scrapes the CD build manifests hourly, and creates a database of seeded packages. It also knows about the supported seed, which is unrelated to images. The client for this database is 'seeded-in-ubuntu', in ubuntu-dev-tools. I hope you find this useful during freezes. Request for advice - subversion FTBFS in precise
Hi all,
Subversion currently FTBFS in precise.
The reason is because apr 1.4.6 changed its hashtable implementation to
incorporate randomness into the hash function. This was to prevent
possible DoS attacks which are based on feeding a server data which it
will put into a hash, which will cause the hash function to perform
pathologically badly.
Unfortunately, it's easy to see how this can completely break a
testsuite's comparisons against hardcoded expected values - hence the FTBFS.
More interestingly, this change also creates at least one behaviour in
Subversion which some might deem a bug: the output of 'svnadmin dump' is
no longer identical if performed multiple times on an unchanging
repository. Bad news for anyone trying to use it to verify intactness of
a repository mirror, for example.
I have a workaround, but it's not exactly pretty.
It is to use the C preprocessor to modify all the calls which create
hashtables to override the hash function back to the one used in APR
1.4.5 and earlier, by placing a #define in a key header file, and then
to use sed in the debian/rules install target to remove the #define from
the installed copy of the header file.
Like I said, not exactly pretty. But potentially better than shipping
precise with a subversion package we can't rebuild, or liberally
disabling large tracts of its testsuite.

I invite your thoughts.
Additional datapoint: There's already a 1.6.18 new upstream version out,
with some fairly important repository corruption fixes. Assuming we can
overcome the FTBFS, and subject to the release team being happy with it,
it could well be a good idea to get it into precise-release. If we
don't, the new upstream version, or a substantial part of its diff, is
almost certain to be a SRU immediately after release.

Não conheço os sistemas que poderia instalar pela central, coisa que somente agora estou descobrindo. Não sei o que é KDE, Unit, Kernel, etc... Até já me aventurei em entender, mas esbarro na falta de conhecimento técnico. Sou usuário comum, um cara que arrasta o mouse... Não sei nem o que é a tal da nuvem... Assim, é difícil lembrar o que eu fiz exatamente quando o defeito começou. Fora isso, por ser uma versão LTS, temos também uma tonelada e meia de correções de bugs, pra versão ser mais redonda. Eu comprei o Vostro e já veio com essa placa. (Mas acho que só a versão com i7 e 6gb vem com ela) Seguinte, ontem eu reiniciei a máquiina após a instalação e o driver estava funcinando perfeitamente, ontem de noite desliguei ele, agora ao ligá-lo. A máquina não está pegando nenhum driver de vídeo, estou com tudo no modo simples/básico. O que fazer? Reinstalar o driver talvez ajude? abraços! Nélio, O HUD é um menu (na verdade um campo de texto onde você digita o que quer achar) do Ubuntu 12.04 que aparece quando você pressiona alt por um certo tempo (não sei quanto tempo exatamente. Esse ponto é confuso para mim). Quanto a migração eu não recomendo. Isso por que o 12.04 ainda é beta e pode haver problemas (alguns meio sérios). Quanto a mudança de arquitetura de 32-bit para 64-bit pode ser feito desde que seu processador e placa mãe suportem. David, você está usando o OpenJDK, um implementação livre de Java que sabidamente não é suportada pelo IRPF 2012. Resolvi essa situação usando o script java-updater, do blog webupd8. Ele instala e atualiza o Java 7, que roda bem o IRPF. Pessoal, Peguei suporte em dois clientes distintos com sistemas diferentes porem usam o Firebird/Samba com OpenSUSE, achei estranho, a razão de usar o OpenSUSE.. Bom dia Thiago, Server? Melhor um LTS. Aguarde o lançamento do server 12.04, que até o final do mês deve estar nas prateleiras. Quanto ao sistema de arquivos, eu utilizo o EXT4, mas talvez o XFS seja melhor para você. Veja a documentação dos sistemas de arquivos e escolha aquele que mais se adequar ao seu caso. Eu trabalho na Canonical, na parte de Bugs do Ubuntu, e posso dizer com certeza que estamos todos ralando pra essa versão ser matadora -- no bom sentido, claro. :P Zandre, as notas de lançamento estão todas em Inglês, é preciso fazer a tradução pra aponta-la para os usuários já que nem todos aqui sabem inglês. :) Alguem aí tem tempo e gostaria de ajudar a traduzir a versão final? Olá amigos, Desculpem pelo OFF-TOPIC. Utilizo o ubuntu 11.10 64 bits que tem o libreoffice 3.4.4 instalado, mas eu desejo utilizar a versão mais recente da suite, a 3.5.2. Estou recorrendo a lista, após ter pesquisado no google e na lista como remover a instalação corrente e instalar uma mais recente, mas não obtive sucesso na instalação. Eu segui os seguintes passos: 1. Eu removi a versão 3.4.4 pelo gerenciador de programas 2. Instalei os .deb pelo sudo dpkg -i *.deb Após a instalação, os icones não aparecem no unity e não consigo abrir nenhum aplicativo. Alguém que tenha conseguido com sucesso poderia me informar um passo a passo de como instalar uma versão mais recente do libreoffice, desde a remoção da versão corrente ? Thanks. I guess it gives an idea. Is this going to be comprehensive enough for a municipality though? Don't they need some intensive labour with its implementation? Maybe some people need training? Install isc-dhsp-server on a host, configure it, then deactivate it, aka make it not to start while the system is booting. Upgrade this server from oneiric to precise. Watch the upgrade break because isc-dhcp-server exausting error 1 (what is quite OK, since it is installed, but meant to not start --- why this case is handled as error --- ??). There are two choices to get the upgrade done: 1. remove isc-dhcp-server, resume the upgrade, install isc-dhcp-server again 2. allow isc-dhcp-server to start, risking a mess because two dhcp-servers working on the very same subnet The upgrade will resume seamlessly in both cases. This is not related to the other bugs reported. It is just an other one, and at an other, totaly distinct place, unrelated to anything reported before. It is just something that shouldn't happen. I was looking in the wrong direction, because of kerberos errors, after upgrading from oneiric to precise. This bug is not related to kerberos, but to OpenLDAP. OpenLDAP has two configuration files for authenticating against a ldap-server: /etc/ldap/ldap.conf -- used by nsswitch /etc/ldap.conf -- used by other tools including kerberos, if kerberos data is stored in ldap. Both of these files are overwritten by do-release-upgrade -d, breaking the connection to your ldap-server. In tune kerberos can't read it's database (stored in ldap) any more, while the connection is not broken, because /etc/krb5.conf holds the necessary information. But Informations for authenticating kerberos against ldap are stored in /etc/ldap/ldap.conf and these are lost. The error messages kerberos exausts lead in a false direction.
