[ubuntu-uk] Ubuntu Google UK SSL search plugin
In case anyone is interested, I've done a Mycroft search plugin which sends the same parameters to Google when doing a search as the Firefox Ubuntu start page, with the minor modifications that it uses gooogle.co.uk rather than google.com, and SSL so people can't snoop on your search requests. There is a standard Google UK SSL plugin already, but I've also suppressed the suggestions feature in mine, as that annoys me when I'm using an onscreen keyboard. With an onscreen keyboard, each letter has to be typed twice if suggestions are turned on, until you have a word or words for which there are no longer any suggestions. I'm using the Cellwriter keyboard, not OnBoard. Anyway, it's here should anyone wish to try or review it: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?author=Jim+Price If you want to see how it works, it is just a text file in the searchplugins directory in your Firefox profile. It works with Chromium as well, but the way you use search plugins in Chromium is a little different. Click on the link to install it, and put a search keyword in, so that when you type that search keyword followed by a space (I chose gu), you will get the prompt to carry on typing and do the custom search. It ought to work in other browsers too, but I haven't tested any. Does anyone know if I would be right in assuming that Ubuntu get some credit from Google for every use of the Firefox Ubuntu start page search? I always use the search bar, so it would be nice if Ubuntu isn't losing out on anything because I never use the start page search. -- JimP -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

Since user files are not changed (and what else?), I don't know if we can expect an upgrade to be similar or the same as a fresh installation. I haven't looked at how Ubuntu views upgrades. Would probably be good to decide what an upgrade cannot do for us, and from there, what we would like it to do for Ubuntu Studio. I have been thinking about the upgrade stuff some more. In the long run, Ubuntu Studio wants to offer the ability to pick and choose what workflows are installed. I think it makes sense to view any choice in upgrades from that POV. That is, assuming 12.04 had been the way we wanted it to be, then the user would only install the parts they wanted and forcing two of those workflows on the user unasked would not be the right thing to do. I would therefore suggest, that these metas instead be added to the extra-software menu selections not just in these two cases but in all workflow cases. so that when we finally get the installer to just install what the user wants, things will just work. Software-center can be used to either install or remove these metas... Though it seems that has no effect on the applications the meta points to when the metas is added as part of the original install and then the meta removed. Choosing metas at install time may fix this. So, to try and make things clear, My suggestion is to not add any metas to the Desktop meta as an SRU for 12.10 or for 13.04 and on. I would add the metas to the extra-software menu items. I am not sure that we need to SRU this to 12.10 though, documentation in the release notes should be enough as upgrading with the upgrader is not a recommended route... just something that comes with the ubuntu core stuff. I don't think there is anyway to make it go away even if we wanted it to. It seems to be part of the software updater. So people will try updating no matter what we do. Would it be possible to add an update script as part of preinst in -settings? [Destkop13.04-Topic] Bundle the Thunderbird FireTray extension by default
There's a bug reporthttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/930813on the paper cut project that says Thunderbird should simply minimize when closed instead of quitting, which is what it currently does. While this proposed behaviour is contrary to what we're trying to achieve with apps like Rhythmbox, in this case I believe it is appropriate for Thunderbird to behave this way since it is a communication app, similar to Empathy and Gwibber, both of which are allowed to run in the background, and are accessed via the messaging menu. Thunderbird should behave in the same way, and according to the comment on the bug report, the FireTray plugin does just this. -- ubuntu-desktop mailing list ubuntu-desktop@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-desktop

Automatic GUI Testing on Ubuntu
I guess a very basis of automatic GUI testing is the ability to get texts of a particular window through a script / program. As I used Windows previously, I'd say I miss GetWindowText function and Spy++ utility somehow. I noticed a tool called Dogtail, which seems to be the right tool for my need. https://fedorahosted.org/dogtail/ http://www.redhat.com/magazine/020jun06/features/dogtail/ However, python-dogtail package in Ubuntu repository is ridiculously outdated; it is not upgraded since 8.04: http://packages.ubuntu.com/python-dogtail It doesn't even start on 12.04. It is a package from Debian. It doesn't surprise me that much since Debian develops few, if any, real GUI apps. Ubuntu is different in a sense that Ubuntu develops Unity, Software Center, Ubuntu One, ... in addition to package whatever upstream offers. I wonder, does Ubuntu developer have better tools I don't know or they simply don't bother to do automatic testing.

E aí sai do Scribus. O Scribus é o 1.4.0, baixado do repositório do Ubuntu e o Ubuntu é o 12.04. Página 11 do manual.
Instalei o danadinho e comecei a usar e a apanhar. [Ubuntu-be] updates wiki ubuntu-be
Hello, At the last ubuntu-be gathering in Houthalen we have done some updates on the wiki of ubuntu-be. What are these updates : -changed the USB-project page and added links to download them, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/LocalizedUSB -Updated the Fairs page, because it was outdated and made the report of the last dipro-fair in Hasselt, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs -added Information brochure ubuntu 12.04LTS in Dutch, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/PromotionMaterial The only thing that didn't work was the uploads of the ISO's to the wiki. The ISO's are 1,3gb in size and i think that they are to big for the wiki pages, i've done 3 attempts and they all failed. For now i added the links to my ubuntu-one account? Is there a way to make the ubuntu-be ISO's available from the ubuntu-be website? [Bug 1070618] Re: Update vino to 3.6.1
Because vino was previously not building with libsecret support (for whatever reason), this amounts to the introduction of a new feature in the SRU. I think an explicit test case is needed for libsecret if it's going to be enabled in SRU, as well as some explicit analysis of the possible sources of regression due to libsecret enablement. If this information is not available, I recommend doing this SRU with libsecret explicitly *disabled* instead, for consistency with the current build. ** Changed in: vino (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: In Progress = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070618 Title: Update vino to 3.6.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vino/+bug/1070618/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1065422] Re: Language detection code will not work for all languages
** Description changed: + [IMPACT] + Language detection code will not work for some languages + + [TESTCASE] + 1. LC_ALL=zn_CN.UTF8 firefox + 2. open gmail + action's name in launcher should be localized + + [Regression Potential] + none + Currently the code to detect the user's language preference to load the translations for webapps is the following (in common/utils.js): - var lang = unsafeWindow.navigator.language; //TODO: came up with a + var lang = unsafeWindow.navigator.language; //TODO: came up with a better approach - if (dict.hasOwnProperty(lang) dict[lang].hasOwnProperty(strid)) { - return dict[lang][strid]; - } else { - return strid; - } + if (dict.hasOwnProperty(lang) dict[lang].hasOwnProperty(strid)) { + return dict[lang][strid]; + } else { + return strid; + } 'dict' is a variable containing a JSON string that is populated at build time with the contents of the translations in .po files in the source tree. It includes the locale code as read from the .po (or LINGUAS) files, which is a gettext-style locale code. The problem is that the 'lang' variable as returned from the browser in some cases won't match the user's locale. This is mainly due to the fact that Firefox uses IETF-style language codes, whereas the system uses gettext-style language codes. That means for some languages there won't be a match, and thus translations won't be loaded. Here's an example for Simplified Chinese: - Gettext locale code: zh_CN - Firefox locale code: zh-cn So there must be a translation gettext - Firefox (and Chromium, if it returns locales in a different format) at build time, so that locale names from the system and from the browser can match and translations can be loaded. Also notice that in some cases either the country code in the locale code might be present in the system locale but not in the browser, and viceversa, so it might be an idea to ignore the country code apart from some exceptions (e.g. zh_CN and zh_TW, pt_BR, etc., to name a few) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065422 Title: Language detection code will not work for all languages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/1065422/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I possibly have another related issue... please let me know if it warrants a new bug. Moving one of these messages (not sure if it triggers it, but its in a folder and of a style where it happens often) to a subfolder shows it not arriving in the subfolder. I opened the subfolder on another machine and it was there, restarting tbird on the first machine and going to the folder made it show up there as well. Text of the error message: The system is running in low-graphics mode Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself. Usually before I get the error window, it switches to a text screen where log information is displayed. Near the end of the log are a bunch of [stopping] (or something to that effect) messages these come after a bunch of [starting] messages Both types have an indication of success on the right end of the line. there are no indications of failure. [Bug 1068207] Re: Update Twitter icons
The SRU that's been uploaded to the queue for this issue includes additional upstream changes to the following files which are not documented in the debian changelog or linked to bugs: src/FacebookMessenger/FacebookMessenger.user.js src/GMail/GMail.user.js src/GooglePlus/GooglePlus.user.js src/GooglePlusGames/GooglePlusGames.user.js src/grooveshark/grooveshark.user.js src/Twitter/Twitter.user.js src/YouTube/YouTube.user.js Without information about why these changes are included, this upload does not meet the Ubuntu SRU policy. In particular, there is no information about how we should verify that these changes fix the issues they are intended to fix, and that they have not introduced any regressions. I'm therefore rejecting this upload from the quantal-proposed queue. Please reupload after addressing this issue, either by including references to appropriate bugs in debian/changelog for each of the changes, or by omitting these changes from the upload. ** Changed in: webapps-applications (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068207 Title: Update Twitter icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/webapps-applications/+bug/1068207/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1071138] Re: Unable to connect to OpenVPN endpoint
Could this be a duplicate of bug #777864? ** Description changed: Hello, I am facing some problems getting OpenVPN working through NetworkManager on Ubuntu 12.10. I am able to connect when using the 'regular' OpenVPN client and a config file, but not through NM with a similar config. [Bug 1071564] Re: ATI video driver circles round login screen
Hello papukaija, I have a problem, it seems apport-collect needs a browser in order to get full access, however that computer have no gui, just a working terminal. Is there an alternate way to get that information you need? Like a cli command or something. I have read the Ubuntu documentation and manual pages but all assumes you run on working GUI machine. I tried with apport-cli but that was fruitless. I'm filling this report from another computer by the way. Thank you very much for the prompt answer and I will send you the information as soon as possible. [Bug 1065559]
Created attachment 28512 gdb backtrace Root cause: PRE bases on the result of value numbering (run_scc_vn). At the end, it free_scc_vn. But before free_scc_vn, it might call cleanup_tree_cfg (); if (do_eh_cleanup || do_ab_cleanup) cleanup_tree_cfg (); cleanup_tree_cfg might call make_ssa_name which might reuse some name from the FREE_SSANAMES list. If the VN_INFO of the name is NULL, free_scc_vn will Segmentation fault. Richard's patch makes do_eh_cleanup to false. So cleanup_tree_cfg is not called in PRE. Then no new ssa name will be created. bt.log shows the gdb backtrace to create a new ssa name. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065559 Title: [regression] cone ftbfs on armel/armhf using GCC 4.7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gcc/+bug/1065559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
