   Hi all,
I have prepared a ppa to test gnome-desktop update.
This implements a new daemon which mimics, what mutter what

Currently only know issue is that the "monitors-changed"
signal does not propagate through to gnome|unity-control-center if
  the resolution is
   changed directly by Xrandr.

Please test and let me know if you spot any bugs.

I tested and spotted two bugs :-). Only restarted my session,
  not the
   full machine.

   - In the greeter, my resolution wasn't preserved. I've dual
  screens
with different resolutions on each monitor. They're
  defined in
   /etc/gnome-settings-daemon/xrandr/monitors.xml (I think
  we used to
have the monitors capplet write this file; not sure how
  you do it
nowadays). I forgot to get a picture, but they both
  reverted to a
   low resolution.
Right this file is not read in the current code, mind you I don't
see anything in the old code that suggests it was read from there
either. gnome-desktop used g_get_user_config_dir() so unless that
magically reads system configs for the greeter I am not sure,
however I will try that and see what happens

   - Pointer barriers were totally broken. I couldn't move my
  mouse from
   one monitor to the other.
This seems strange, pointer barriers are not managed by
gnome-settings-daemon et al. What DE are you using here Unity? Will
try and reproduce this one.

Thanks
 Tim

   Cheers,

[Ubuntu-BR] Monitor AOC e1649Fwu

2014-02-19 Thread Fabio Fraga Machado
Caros, bom dia.

fabio^eventhorizon:[~]$ lsmod | grep udl

invés do output padrão.

Boa sorte

[Ubuntu-BR] [Multipath TCP] Servidor-BR

2014-02-19 Thread Marcus Sandri
Alguém aqui usa a nova versão do TCP, MPTCP ?

Link http://leris.sor.ufscar.br/multiflow/VM/ubuntu-mptcp.tar.gz

Exclusividades do qual o Windows não possui. Chupa.

Cheers,

[ubuntu-marketing] Becoming Involved in Ubuntu Marketing?

2014-02-19 Thread Emily Gonyer
Hi there,

I've been lurking in the #ubuntu-marketing channel for a week or more,
as well as this list, and haven't seen any activity. I've formerly
been active in the GNOME Marketing/Engagement team and have been
moving my focus to Ubuntu over the last month or so.

So, I'm wondering... is this list/group active at all? If it is, where
does activity take place? And if not, is it possible to become
involved in Ubuntu's marketing team? I've been writing summaries
helping to edit Ubuntu Weekly News and recently did some
editing/proof-reading of Full Circle Magazine for the first time.

What else can I be doing to become involved?

Ubuntu GNOME this week has been mentioned '3' times ;)

This is just the first step of following this plan:
http://ubuntugnome.org/news-and-weekly-reports/

The more we publish (news, updates, etc), the better :)

It is a matter of time until we bring lots of attention. I've done more for
Lubuntu by posting almost everywhere and that was a key success for Lubuntu
to gain its popularity (had problems with Ubuntu Forums Stuff because of
this :D) and I have learned now to do it the less headache way and the more
efficient way.

Now, your help is needed :)

@Packaging Team
The world needs to hear from you, too ;)

Thank you!

Re: Including a new GTK theme in Ubuntu GNOME

2014-02-19 Thread Tim

Hi Satyajit,
I think you have really left this a bit late.

While I am not opposed to shipping extra themes, I will not be
putting a non-default theme in ubuntu-gnome-default-settings. Despite
what you say, GTK themes do break each and every cycle, perhaps not as
critical but still plenty of glitches etc. I also have a suspicion that
people looking for a theme, are at a first instance going to search
google for it, rather than checking what is installed.

Now the right way to do this would be to get your theme into the ubuntu
Archives as a package, then we could get it included in the default
install (as an additional theme) if the rest of the artwork team are
happy with that. All of this may be a little late for trusty however you
could atleast try.

We cannot include a Gnome Shell theme for obvious reasons.

I'll make
sure it is updated for latest GNOME.

I have a theme, named Evolve http://fav.me/d4dn66o, that

Does it mean that the default GTK theme will be replaced? In

Upgrading to 3.10 (PPA) with installed themes.

2014-02-19 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

I'm running Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 on several laptops. On a couple I would
like to run Gnome 3.10 upgraded with the PPA. I run the Moka icon, gtk
and gnome-shell theme on all of the machines (very nice flat modern
themes). I read in another thread that gnome-shell themes tend to mess
up upgrades and I did have some color issues on the one machine I did
upgrade already (especially in Evolution). So I wonder if that could be
because I had the Moka stuff installed? If so, would it be a good idea
to purge the Moka PPAs before I do the 3.10 upgrade?

Re: Upgrading to 3.10 (PPA) with installed themes.

2014-02-19 Thread Satyajit Sahoo
The themes need to support your Gnome version if you want to use them
with a newer Gnome. Generally, there are minor glitches in the GTK
theme. The Gnome Shell themes have lots of issues since lots of
changes occur to the Shell every release.

AFAIK, Moka GTK theme has GTK3.10 support. I don't know about the
Gnome Shell theme though. You can always purge the Moka PPA after the
upgrade if you find that the theme doesn't work for you.

Issues related to Evolution couldn't be due to Gnome Shell theme. The
GTK theme must have a bug. You should report the bug to the developer.

Yes. Whenever you install Ubuntu or any of its official variants, just make
sure to install GRUB into the MBR of your HDD. This is the best way ever. I
have done 1000s of installations in 4 years and I always do that and always
choose 'Something Else' to take more control over the installation process

As long as you have backed up your important files, worry not :)

I have sent you two good links, have a look and bookmark these for future
reference.

Re-installing Linux doesn't need anything else except formatting the root
partition and if my memory still remember correctly, it is also safe to
keep /home without formatting but I have seen some people reporting some
kind of settings problems but that was long ago. To play it safe make sure
to backup. Did I mention to backup? :P

Re: Upgrading to 3.10 (PPA) with installed themes.

2014-02-19 Thread Satyajit Sahoo
It is a bug in the GTK theme. To fix the black area, the theme
developer needs to set a background color on the .toolbar class.

Weird that it derives the color from toolbar. I would have preferred
if it used the main bg color or a darkened base color instead.

Below you will see a screen-shot of how Evolution looks after an update
to 3.10. It has a black frame around emails both in preview and when the
email is opened. Is this how Evolution should look in 3.10? I do not
 have any themes installed:

Ubuntu GNOME this week has been mentioned '3' times ;)

This is just the first step of following this plan:
 http://ubuntugnome.org/news-and-weekly-reports/

The more we publish (news, updates, etc), the better :)

It is a matter of time until we bring lots of attention. I've done more
for Lubuntu by posting almost everywhere and that was a key success for
Lubuntu to gain its popularity (had problems with Ubuntu Forums Stuff
because of this :D) and I have learned now to do it the less headache way
 and the more efficient way.

Now, your help is needed :)

  @Packaging Team
The world needs to hear from you, too ;)

  Thank you!

You're asking the wrong person, I'm afraid. I never use any cloud service
except for logging in to Launchpad, Ubuntu Forums, etc. I always backup my
files locally :)

I'd use flash drives, but i have no idea what i will have to back up in a

/home/your_user_name

This is the path where all your files are stored and you need to copy this
folder and paste it to your external HDD

Also, see this:

What I personally do, I always go to my folder that has my username which
lives inside my /home ... copy ... paste ... done :)

Hope that helps!

Yes. Whenever you install Ubuntu or any of its official variants, just
make sure to install GRUB into the MBR of your HDD. This is the best way
ever. I have done 1000s of installations in 4 years and I always do that
and always choose 'Something Else' to take more control over the
 installation process ;)

As long as you have backed up your important files, worry not :)

I have sent you two good links, have a look and bookmark these for

i don't think I'm going to uninstall it soon, but i will probably
reinstall it for the 14.4 update when it comes out.

Re-installing Linux doesn't need anything else except formatting the
root partition and if my memory still remember correctly, it is also safe
to keep /home without formatting but I have seen some people reporting some
kind of settings problems but that was long ago. To play it safe make sure
to backup. Did I mention to backup? :P

P.S, sorry for not being able to quote as you do in mails, i have no
idea how to do it with my Screen-Reader. could be a drag and drop operation
 maybe.

It is very easy to restore the MBR and enable Windows Boot Loader to
 take control.

I have made a Dual-Booting guide which is 3-4 years old now (Ubuntu
10.04 and Windows XP) and I have discussed all these possibilities but I
will not confuse you and post it here :)

Just install GRUB to the MBR of your HDD and if you ever decided to

First of all you are going to have to start doing proper releases, you can't
have daily-landing stuff in the archives. At the very least this
means tagging releases on github.

The packaging you have on the PPA is mostly ok, just needs a few minor changes.
We can help you with the initial packaging however are you
planning on maintaining this packaging going forward? That would probably make
more sense since you will be the one making releases, packaging
on themes, is fairly trivial and wouldn't take you too long to prepare an

AFAIK, Moka GTK theme has GTK3.10 support. I don't know about the

Issues related to Evolution couldn't be due to Gnome Shell theme. The

Below you will see a screen-shot of how Evolution looks after an update

email is opened. Is this how Evolution should look in 3.10? I do not
  have any themes installed:

I'm running Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 on several laptops. On a couple I would

[Bug 1282160] [NEW] maas-pserv cannot bind to port 69

2014-02-19 Thread Gavin Panella
Public bug reported:

pserv has been modified recently to bind to newly configured network
interfaces. It does this periodically at runtime. However, it cannot
bind to port 69 after twistd has dropped root privileges. An authbind
rule to allow the maas user to bind to port 69 would resolve this
(tested on the Garage MAAS).

[Bug 1282218] [NEW] maas-cli stdout is not json formated

2014-02-19 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

previously, 'maas-cli MAASNAME nodes list' would produce json formated output
to stdout. Now, it produces invalid json. This is because its writing a
deprecation warning to stdout that should go to stderr.

$ maas-cli list 2/dev/null
WARNING: The maas-cli command is deprecated and will be removed in a future
version. From now on please use 'maas' instead.

That is fixed with:
maas-cli admin nodes list | sed '1d; 2d' | python -c 'import json, sys;

essentially your deprecation warning caused a regression.

[Bug 1257304] Re: uvtools fails to create a virtual machine

2014-02-19 Thread Robie Basak
Hi Diogo,

Thanks for reporting this, and sorry for being so slow in responding.
I've finally got round to going through uvtool issues this week.

AFAICT, this is a libvirt or libvirt packaging issue, since it seems
that libvirtd died and needed restarting while being used by uvtool. I
uploaded a possible fix for libvirt in 1.2.1-0ubuntu8 which added uvtool
use to the AppArmor profile, though I'm a little confused as to why the
helper needed access to the backing store image there anyway. It might
well have been fixed by this, so I'll leave this Incomplete, pending a
reproducer case with libvirt-bin = 1.2.1-0ubuntu8 installed.

[Bug 1281881] Re: FFE: 14.04 features

2014-02-19 Thread Julian Edwards
I just edited this to a single FFE for many things, as advised by
infinity. We'll do a single upload when all the features are done.

** Summary changed:

- FFE: maas support for third party hardware drivers
+ FFE: 14.04 features

** Description changed:

+ MAAS requires the following features to land after the Feature Freeze:
+ * support for third party hardware drivers
+ * support for tracking which NICs on each node are associated with a
particular network
+
+ Third party hardware drivers
+
  [Description]
This is related to bug 1281765 and forms the infrastructure to enable
hardware enablement teams to write drivers for hardware not already supported
in MAAS.

This is essential work to prevent these teams from blocking on the core
MAAS development team, and to make writing new drivers an order of
  magnitude quicker and easier.

  [Proposed Changes]
The feature is already half implemented; bi-directional comms between
clusters and the region controller is now established but further work is
required to add an API layer between these comms and the driver code.

The API layer will translate the various requirements that a driver
should provide into calls to the region, and vice versa. Additionally,
all current code that is part of hardware enablement, such as
architecture types and power parameter choices, will be moved into new
driver code that will become part of each cluster controller.
+
+ NIC tracking
+
+ [Description]
+ A feature is already landed to support network tracking on Nodes that MAAS
manages. This needs to be extended to track on which NIC the network is
available.
+
+ This is essential otherwise the existing work is of no use to API
+ clients if they cannot know on which NIC the network is to be used.
+
+ [Proposed changes]
+ The database will gain a link table between MACAddress and Network, and the
UI will change so that it lets the user link networks against MACs on the node
rather than the node as a whole. API calls will also change accordingly.

Do you happen to have ufw installed? Did you manually edit your

In any case, it seems best to add '|| true' to the end of all the

[Bug 1281948] [NEW] Web browser stops working after switching between 3G and Wifi

2014-02-19 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
Public bug reported:

I have noticed this before but put it down to a glitch. Now I realise
it's reproducible.

Setup a connection, either wifi or 3g, it doesn't matter, but both have to be
available.
Open browser, search google for something to prove you can send/receive data
via the web.
Pull down network indicator, toggle the network interface (so if you were on
3g, switch on wifi, if you were on wifi, turn it off)
Back in the browser, click any link on the page, or try and visit a new url.

For me it's broken. I can't use the browser once I switch interface. If
I switch back, it works again.

[Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2014-02-19 Thread Mattia Guidi
Also: do I need a hard reset to make the script work? I've saved the
script in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d, suspended, resumed, but closing the
lid didn't trigger a suspension. So I was wondering if some other
operation is needed to make it work. Thanks again to juanmanuel for the
effort and the patience with this issue.

[Bug 1281602] Re: When searching videoaggregator scope, local videos are shown at the bottom

2014-02-19 Thread Pawel Stolowski
The problem is in the aggregation handling in mediascanner scope, it
also affects music. The aggregator doesn't specify categories upfront,
it just passes categories as they are received from subscopes, so
whichever comes first, wins.

Although mounting somewhat works (needs some play with it a little)
Clementine won't start and here is the error msg:

clementine: error while loading shared libraries: libimobiledevice.so.2:

Additionally Rhythmbox doesn't see the device

[Bug 1281955] [NEW] Cannot get graphics to work properly in new kernel

2014-02-19 Thread psil0cybin
Public bug reported:

Kernel Causing Problems: Linux 3.2.0-59-generic-pae Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Latest Working Kernel: 3.2.0-58-generic-pae

Hey guys I turned on my computer and it suggested I needed to upgrade kernels.

After upgrading i got a crash report for cedarview tail, my graphic
driver (great) not a great sign.

Restarting my laptop I noticed graphic issues right away, function keys do not
work, etc, font is off (not displaying like it used to)
Additional drivers suggested that I can install Cedarview Tail again, but when
I click install it states

Sorry, installation of this driver failed.

Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log

my jockey log.

[Bug 1251330] Re: Keyboard orientation incorrect when brought up by side stage app

2014-02-19 Thread Ari Hannula
After upgrading to ubuntu-
keyboard_0.99.trunk.phablet2+14.04.20140213-0ubuntu1_armhf and maliit-
framework_0.99.0+git20130615+97e8335-0ubuntu6_armhf, keyboard is
sometimes shown in landscape (on the right side) although my app is
always in portrait. Using Nexus 4.

[Bug 1281958] [NEW] crash, new kernel, upgrade, cannot install

2014-02-19 Thread psil0cybin
Public bug reported:

Kernel Causing Problems: Linux 3.2.0-59-generic-pae Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Latest Working Kernel: 3.2.0-58-generic-pae

Hey guys I turned on my computer and it suggested I needed to upgrade
kernels.

Re: [Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2014-02-19 Thread Moræus
I can confirm this works on a Samsung NP900x4c.

The same EC port range in DSDT.

Great work! Thanks a lot.

FINALLY!! I found the exact problem _and_ a SOLUTION!!! (NOTE: see
 attached program)

The problem is that Samsung's embedded controller stops sending GPE
events if it still is waiting for previous GPE events to be queried from
 it.

It will remain in that state until one hits the reset hole in the back
of the latop, or flashes a bios, or queries the events.

--- But how will the OS query the events if the GPE interrupt isn't
produced anymore? Classic chicken and egg.

So I made a small program that does just that -- it queries events from
the EC until there are no more to query. AND IT WORKED!! This restores
the normal behavior, and AC, Battery and LID events start to be produced
again. One would ideally run it after resume from sleep. I based it
after observing normal behavior in linuxkernel/drivers/acpi/ec.c, and
afterwards behaviour with laptop in problem state.

Following is the program (I will attach it too). You can either:

 1) Run it by hand after resume from sleep.

 2) Or Automatically run it from /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99-your-
script-here (you can use 95led as basis).

 3) Or Insert this code in the linux kernel at the beginning of the
 acpi_ec_unblock_transactions_early() function in
linuxkernel/drivers/acpi/ec.c and recompile the kernel. The cmd and
data ports are known in ec.c so they don't need to be hardcoded there.

PS: Other things that I already tried that didn't fix it:
1) Please note that I already tried commenting acpi_disable_all_gpes()
from linuxkernel/drivers/acpi/sleep.c and this didn't have an effect (I
guess unreplied events were already accumulated in the EC prior to resume).
2) I also tried reverting to calling acpi_enable() on sleep.c instead of
setting the ACPI_BITREG_SCI_ENABLE. No effect, issue still resurfaced after
 some suspends.
3) I also tried commenting out the call to
acpi_ec_unblock_transactions_early() in sleep.c, but no effect.

PS2: Another way to force the embedded controller to be in a problem state
 that I discovered, is to:
  1) echo disable /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe17
  2) plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug, plug, unplug (8 actions)
  3) echo enable /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe17

Following are the two files with fixes which I'll attach too:

NOTE: you must check that embedded controller ports are 0x62 and 0x66
looking in your DSDT. RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
