Zaher Hey Zaher, The only thing that worked for me with the fan ( believe me I looked ! ) was to put a 30 second delay in the grub boot menu, and leave the rest of grub alone. Then do cold boots. This seems to allow the fan to stabilize before ACPI takes over. I think I read somewhere about a race condition. In grub change the line that looks like this to : GRUB_TIMEOUT=30 as for your Fn (brightness?) issue look here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1662130 There is a ton of stuff on the forums - you will see. I do not think you will get much of a response here in Launchpad - the forums are a better place to help you... [Bug 321578] Toshiba Fan
Hi Tose, The only solution I came up with is to put a 30 second delay in the grub boot menu. This seems to stabilize the temperature of the computer before loading the OS. I also notice a difference when the computer is cold booted with power plugged in, restarted on battery etc etc. You may find a combination that works for you. Not very techie, but if it works . If you are new to Linux, hang in. It is well worth the learning process.very rewarding. Let me know if I can help - I _may_ be able to. [Bug 565132] [NEW] kacpid only loads upon restart or warm boot, not cold boot
Public bug reported: On my Toshiba notebook, the Fn keys are recognized only if a restart is done. From a cold boot they are not. Therefore the brightness up down keys , wifi on /off keys , don't work from cold boot. Also I can hear the fan starting and stopping after a warm boot. From a cold boot it is usually low speed. If I go into the system monitor and check the running processes, I can see that kacpi is loaded after restart, and all works as it should. Kacpi is not loaded from a cold boot. Looking at kacpi on a web search, I must be the only one to have this problem - everyone else wants to get rid of it - not I. How can I ensure that kacpi is loaded at power on ? Thanks in advance. [Bug 321578] Re: Toshiba satellite L350 fan and temperature problem in Ubuntu 8.10
Update: For Subscribers to this bug: Somewhere along in my research I read about ACPID .look it up if your interested. Anyhow, I went to the System Menu, Administration then Services, and then disabled ACPID (power management), then rebooted. I now have the brightness keys working, muting etc but best of all the FAN comes on around 50 degrees and shuts itself off at around 40thank god. I was becoming obsessive about the stupid fan. Even thought of storing the laptop in the fridge I should mention that I also have acpi_osi=Linux installed. I'd say there is a bug in the ACPID scriptsbut at this point I don't really care, as it all seems to work just fine. I too am having the same problems: Jaunty 64 bit AMD, Toshiba L300D with Insyde H20 Bios Acpitools tells me I don't have a Toshiba Tried acpi_osi=Linux to no avail. Disassembled DSDT table, reassembled with no errors. Tried acpi_osi=Windows 2006; Windows NT ( got these from the table) with some changes, all worse! Attached is output from Acpitool. Notice there are no thermal trip points set, and most of the devices at the end are disabled. Also attached is the output from /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THZN/polling_frequency and trip_points. Notice polling is disabled, and the only trip point is 105 degrees which doesn't give me much comfort. Any help would be appreciated - I'll be the guinea pig ! By the way, all is well with the fan in Vista, but that is about all that is well in Vista. ** Attachment added: ACPITOOLS output, Thermal Zone frequency and trip points http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26539445/acpitool%2C%20polling%20and%20trip%20points -- Toshiba satellite L350 fan and temperature problem in Ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321578 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
