[Bug 974955] [NEW] Installing enigmail doesn't install all the required packages,

2012-04-06 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Public bug reported:

This on a Xubuntu 11.10 installation
Thunderbird 11.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.1 already installed and configured.
Installing enigmail 2:1.4-0ubuntu0.11.10.1

I'm new to using Thunderbird, and saw the Enigmail plugin whilst
browsing the Ubuntu Software Centre. I installed Enigmail but got an
error that gnupg-agent wasn't installed.

Installing gnupg-agent manually fixed the issue.

** Affects: enigmail (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Opinion

[Bug 974955] Re: Installing enigmail doesn't install all the required packages,

2012-04-06 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Apologies Nick, not a full enough description.

Whilst enigmail installs just fine, it doesn't actually work due to its
dependency on on gnupg-agent.

So installing enigmail should also install gnupg-agent if it isn't
already.

[Bug 586546] Re: Byobu should be enabled by default for initial login to Ubuntu Server

2010-06-24 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Thierry, this bug has nothing to do with conflictual decisions. It is
the opinion of an Ubuntu user on how critical server information can be
best served to a user, as I've detailed in the description.

The discussion at UDS, and the outcome have no influence on whether this
a valid papercut, the suggestion has been discussed, that is all.

The definition of a papercut at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut is: a
trivially fixable usability bug that the average user would encounter in
default installation of Ubuntu or Kubuntu Desktop Edition and I believe
that this bug fits that definition.

Server users cannot currently, quickly and easily see server
status/information which is trivially fixed by enabling byobu for the
initial login.

[Bug 571241] Re: many hamradio applications not appear on hamradiomenus

2010-04-28 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

hamradiomenus was depreciated in Karmic and has been replaced by extra-
xdg-menus. However this is an application level bug rather than a
general Ubuntu bug, so a bug will need raising against individual
packages that don't appear in the menu.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect bug #, and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

Hey Pedro!

Thanks for working on this, I'll gather the hardware tomorrow, and see
if this still happens, if it does, I'll push it upstream and then give
you the details so that you can change the status.

Cheers

 Hi folks,

Just a quick message to say if you're going to the Ubuntu Demo Day today
hopefully I'll see you there. I'll be the one wearing the blue flagship
  polo shirt.

If you're not able to go, I'll be taking my camera along and getting
lots of pics and I'm sure others will too.

  Rob

Rob,

I'm going to be there after lunch, say hi! I'll be wearing an
Ubuntu-UK Podcast top

Josh, where is the Pembury? Just a postcode will do. Whilst I'm not in
London I'm willing to travel.

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Icon225 USB modem

2008-03-28 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Well I now have this modem working with:

-eeePC
-XUbuntu 7.10

In writing up a how-to I'm repeating the process on my Dell Latitude
which has Hardy on it. But for some reason I'm struggling to get it
working.

But.. all the details of how to get this great little modem working on
the eeePC are on the pharscape.org forums

  Does /dev/ttyUSB* exist at all?

  The 3 modem has a ttyUSB0 device.

Not sure if that would help. You might also be worth trying the
Vodaphone software (as mentioned in one of my posts) which appears to
detect a couple of different modems.

  Rob

Thanks for the suggestion Rob

The problem with this device is that it has all the software to use it
with Windows on the stick. This means that it's seen as a CD-ROM when
it's mounted, which it is possible to get around, and I have that
sussed now.

The device is now seen as:

-Control port /dev/ttyHS0
-Application port /dev/ttyHS1
-Diagnostics port /dev/ttyHS2
-Modem port /dev/ttyHS3

I've tried the Vodaphone software, which doesn't quite work as this
modem isn't specifically supported (yet)

You mentioned in the other threat getting some settings through a
Windows box that you were going to write up. I wonder if you've
managed to do that yet? The other thing I need to explore some more is
wvdial, although how 3G/GPRS and wvdial work I'm not sure.

Cheers,

[ubuntu-uk] Music to your ears, something new for the UK

2008-03-11 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Last weekend four of us got together, with four microphones and some
other gadgets to do a little recording.

The last few days has seen some frantic activity editing audio files,
and web pages so that we could launch the podcast.

I could post a lot more here, but I think I'll let the site and
podcast introduce themselves.

Ladies and Gents. http://podcast.ubuntu-uk.org/

Chris,

Has anything actually changed? All that's happened is that the first
podcast is out. All of the points on that page are still valid, and I
think it's important that contributions are made by everyone.

Without those contributions it some might argue that it is the
Ubuntu-UK podcast. But, the four of us live close together, with some
decent quality recording gear and can meet regularly. I believe we've
set the base level of content and quality, it's done, started, and I
hope now, that the enthusiasm in that list will come forward in
contributions.

Cheers

Just a comment on the quality. The sound levels seem inconsistent
between the voices and the music. I turned down the volume while the

Otherwise, really great effort! Keep them coming.

Thanks Tony,

I was particularly quiet, but that'll be fixed for episode 2

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Music to your ears, something new for the UK

2008-03-11 Thread Ciemon Dunville
Andy et al,

Thanks for all the feedback, and I do mean all. Nothing ever happens
without a negative side, and the secret is in understanding the
negativity so that it can be appreciated for the next time.

So far I think the only real criticism/comment has been the fact that
I was too far away from the mic which is easily fixed.

What we really need now is content suggestions, preferably recorded so
that we can play it in the show. So what do you want to hear about? As
the least technical member of the team I'm keen to make sure that the
new user is catered for as much as the experienced.

I look forward to hearing from you all.
