[Bug 889660] Re: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite L775D-S7340 reboots during shutdown
Is anyone still working on this? This also causes issues with sleep/hibernate. Also, just to clarify the issue for anyone looking into it, the automatic reboot only happens when the power adapter is connected and plugged in - if it's unplugged or not connected (running off the battery only) shutdown is normal, but if it's plugged in the machine reboots both with and without the battery connected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/889660 Title: PROBLEM: Toshiba Satellite L775D-S7340 reboots during shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/889660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 829346] Re: Xorg freeze after standby
This problem happens to me rather often in 11.04 and I would like to add a few details that people seem to have missed. Often when I try to resume and the screen remains blank I have discovered that it is ONLY blank and the log in window is actually there like normal and I can type my password to get in, I just have to do it blind. The screen comes back up after that. Other times it doesn't work however, but once I seem to recall the screen coming up and finding my password typed out a few times in gEdit as if it simply took a little while for the screen to come back. I have just checked for the bug and it seems to be gone, so I think it can be closed now. Also, I know this is for bugs, but I think that there needs to be some more features for having a cube desktop. I have Gnome setup with 6 desktops, with the desktops rotating when the mouse approaches the edge. I would love to see this ability in Unity, where there is a place to select what desktop you want (an app on the taskbar) but since Unity doesn't use a bottom taskbar or allow app icons to be placed on the taskbars (another feature worth adding), or even a clear way of adding or subtracting desktops, I am stuck with editing the registry if I want more desktops. Overall the setup for adding a cube desktop isn't very easy to setup and it would be cool if that could be changed. Just a thought. [Bug 860153] Re: [HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC, Conexant CX20549 (Venice), Speaker, Internal] volume slider problem - Volume setting not saved on reboot
Okay, a fix was posted in the forums while I was reporting this. Deleting the hidden folder .pulse in the user's home directory seems to fix the problem. I'm not sure if this was a problem created during the upgrade from Natty or something that would happen on a fresh install, but it might be something for the upgrade-tool team to look at. It worked correctly in Natty, which was a clean install. I'll leave the status for the devs to decide. The solution was found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1850188 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/860153 Title: [HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC, Conexant CX20549 (Venice), Speaker, Internal] volume slider problem - Volume setting not saved on reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/860153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 550532] Re: ** (emacs:5902): CRITICAL **: murrine_style_draw_box: assertion `height = -1' failed
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 538499 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538499 Holy Cow!! I'm like brand new to Linux (maybe 6 wks now) and I did that and it did work for me. Specifically the error I got was not precisely identical. Mine was: ** (emacs:29944): CRITICAL **: murrine_style_draw_box: assertion `height = -1' failed This would be displayed the terminal right when launching emacs23 In case another super newbie, like myself, stumbles upon this I'll write out what I did exactly - perhaps it will help someone in the future. I don't know how many times I wished someone would spell it out for me like this. After navigaging to each folder respectively, I made sure to make a copy of the original two files - just in case(located where Christian Pietsch says in post #3). Synopsis: Navigate to the directory, make a copy of the original file, open the regular file (not the copy) with nano, edit the entry, save and close. Repeat for the second one. Navigate to the location of the first file using:
cd /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/
You must log in as root to make any changes to either of these files. These file are owned by root and you will not be allowed to do anything with them without doing that.
sudo -s
Enter password when prompted and push enter. Then make a copy of the file just in case anything goes wrong. You'll have it to go back to but you would have to rename it to the original name for it to work. The cp command is used for this (only necessary if something were to go wrong and you needed to make things back the way they were). So make a copy using:
cp gtkrc gtkrc.old
then
nano gtkrc
This opens the file in a text editor called nano Once in nano press: ctrl+w (this alows you to enter a term to search in nano). Enter GtkRange::trough-under-steppers (without the quotes) and press enter. Navigate to the end of this line and change the 0 to 1 as Alf says in post #2. Press ctrl+x. You will be prompted to save the changes - press y. Press enter. This saves the changes to the file and exits nano. Now on to the second file . . . Navigate to the location of the second file using:
cd /usr/share/themes/Radiance/gtk-2.0/
Make a copy using:
cp gtkrc gtkrc.old
then
This saves the changes to the file and exits nano. type:
exit
This exits root (logs you out of it) type:
exit
closes the terminal (unless you still need it). Hope it might help someone in the future. I'm stoked! First time I ever did something like that. To add to this bug, when I get this error, it's unclear which compression job caused it--the dialog provides no feedback as to what archive file I was trying to create when I received it. [Bug 665546] Re: Drop and sub menus don't always show up
I attached apport info above. I too am experiencing this problem. Often a menu will highlight when I click on it, but the contents will not appear. I can click several times with no effect. Sometimes adjacent menus also will not show up, but it seems inconsistent. To get the menu to appear, I usually click elsewhere on the screen (e.g. the desktop background) and then go back to the menu and try opening it again. Note that I am NOT running an nVidia driver. The hardware driver listed under the Additional Drivers system admin menu is ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. I'm sure the apport info has more specific details. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665546 Title: Drop and sub menus don't always show up -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

People are giving feedback to this issue. Some developers would be interested in that. It's frustrating to have the usability of a program hurt so badly by such a seemingly small thing. (It seems like it should be able to qualify as a Papercut.) And this bug report has a whole 7 comments in the extremely long time it's been open. Re: [ubuntu-art] Solutions
I've been a lurker on this list for at least a year, and will probably continue to lurk--I enjoy design but suck at it myself :). That said, as a bit of an outsider, I think the overwhelming problem with this list is that there's no apparent purpose to it: Canonical has its own design team which has little to no involvement and takes little to no input from the community (namely this list). I don't necessarily mean that in a mean-spirited way--it's simply what I've seen repeatedly. Artists come in, and introduce themselves saying, I'd love to contribute to Ubuntu! and they're consistently greeted with the motivation-killing this list doesn't actually contribute to Ubuntu--we just make art that generally relates to Ubuntu. Doing design in a open source sort of way is really, really difficult (I haven't yet seen a successful model--it may exist, but I haven't seen it), which, I assume, is why it's not happening here. Unfortunately, until this community has a way to meaningful way to actually contribute to Ubuntu, I think it'll continue to languish. I'm not trying to be negative--on the contrary, I think there's a LOT of potential here (I really think Ubuntu has the potential to break through the outlandishly difficult problem of open source design). I'm just not smart enough to solve the problem itself. -- Peaces, Jake -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art
[Bug 592016] Re: [Maverick] Sound is always muted on startup; unmuting makes the volume at lowest level
Daniel, but how would I fix the problem for an existing user? I've already tried stopping pulse and deleting .pulse* from the home directory. I'm glad that when I start my computer and login to my username, my sound isn't muted upon entering my session anymore. But I'm still troubled by the fact this isn't guaranteed for other user sessions that may start during (like with fast user switching) or after that initial session. [Bug 592016] Re: [Maverick] Sound is always muted on startup; unmuting makes the volume at lowest level
This isn't completely fixed. It's still here in a strange way. For my account, the issue is gone. But for the second user account on my machine, the bug still exists. Here are peculiar things I can easily reproduce: Consider user A my account - sound always works fine. User B is the account where sound will still start muted. 1. Log into user B first after booting the computer. 2. Sound is muted. 3. Switch to user A. 4. Sound works. (Login theme plays and everything.) 5. Switch back to user B - sound is no longer muted and is working. 6. Switch to user A and log out. 7. Switch to user B and log out. 8. Log back into user B. 9. Sound is muted again. 10. Repeat steps 3-9 as many times as you want. It's like Pulse isn't working for user B unless user A logged in at some point during user B's session. I wouldn't know what's really going on, but I can reproduce it trivially everytime with those steps. It doesn't require rebooting or anything. Any idea? ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Confirmed -- [Maverick] Sound is always muted on startup; unmuting makes the volume at lowest level https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592016 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
Thanks for the PPA. It let me fix GNOME's/Ubuntu's bad/idiosyncratic touchpad defaults. I couldn't understand why in the world double-tapping was resulting in a right-click when I started using Ubuntu on my netbook. It's a real pain. Hopefully this will be fixed in 10.10. -- Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace
Ugh. So yeah, these Compiz/Workspace Switcher bugs still obviously exist. 1. Can't use mouse wheel to scroll workspaces in the switcher. 2. Can't drag from the window list to the workspace switcher to send a window to another workspace. 3. Can't drag a window from the window switcher and drop it on itself to do the same thing. Those are three things I do often in Metacity that I can't do in Compiz. These issues are literally the only reasons I have Visual Effects set to None. I don't understand why I can't at least use my mouse wheel to change workspaces in the switcher when clicking works. -- Can't drag a window to another workspace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150690 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 332348] Re: Display icon indication for mobile/web client/bot/etc IM users
This is one reason I also can't seriously switch from Pidgin to Empathy. I remember trying Empathy out last year (I believe) and running into this issue and finding this same (I assume) open bug report. Knowing whether or not my friends are on their mobile plays a large part in how/if I communicate with them. -- Display icon indication for mobile/web client/bot/etc IM users https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/332348 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
