[Bug 2071707] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: The system fails to boot properly. It starts, but after Grub the screen remains blank and the system does not respond to anything, including keystrokes. Workaround to make the problem go away: When booting, press "e" in the grub menu and then remove "splash" argument from the kernel command line. [Bug 1754578] Re: New meson version including features uploaded without ffe
The reason we recommended 0.44.1 is that traditionally 0.X.0 releases have had regressions that we have had to fix later. Since 0.45.0 was so close to Ubuntu freeze it was considered safer to stick with 0.44.1 because it has been tested in the field. However it turned out that 0.45.0 actually had no regressions and it is even possible that there will never be 0.45.1 because of this. Thus it seems to be safe to go with 0.45.0 for bionic if you so wish. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754578 Title: New meson version including features uploaded without ffe To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meson/+bug/1754578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

0.41.1 is planned to be released Sunday (that is tomorrow). If it is possible for you to test if current trunk + this MR fixes the issues it would be helpful: https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/pull/1951 While we're at it Meson currently can't because it is blocked by a regression on ARM as reported here: http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed- migration/update_excuses.html#meson However that is _not_ a regression in Meson. [Bug 1413943] [NEW] Upgrading to vivid breaks dual boot on OS X
Public bug reported: First of all, apologies if this is filed against the wrong package, but this seemed like the most pertinent one. When you upgrade from utopic to vivid on an OS X machine running Yosemite, the upgrade procedure overwrites the boot code somehow. When booting the computer will print booting in insecure mode or something like that and boots immediately to Ubuntu. The only way to boot to OSX is to hold alt when booting and then selecting efi boot from the list of items. This brings up the proper rEFInd boot menu. The expected behaviour is that after the update booting happens via rEFInd just like before the upgrade. [Bug 1410260] Re: Image provider blocking the UI thread
Qt's documentation says this: To force asynchronous image loading, even for image sources that do not have the asynchronous property set to true, you may pass the QQuickImageProvider::ForceAsynchronousImageLoading flag to the image provider constructor. This ensures that all image requests for the provider are handled in a separate thread. This is exactly what thumbnailer does (thumbnailgenerator.cpp:29). This should make it fully asynchronous. All threading related to this is done by Qt internals and they are not exposed to QQuickImageProviders. This would indicate that the blocking happens somewhere inside Qt and thus is not caused by thumbnailer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1410260 Title: Image provider blocking the UI thread To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thumbnailer/+bug/1410260/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1403906] Re: thumbnailer crash when reading metadata
I have been able to reproduce this finally with the following steps: - flash krillin (--bootstrap) with vivid-proposed - put the broken image in ~/Pictures - start Gallery - if not crash, close Gallery, rm -rf .cache/com.ubuntu.gallery/ and go back to previous step After a few tries it crashes. If you install the new packages from silo 19 (as mentioned in the linked branch MR) I can't make the crash happen any more. One thing that I did encounter was that when I click on the image in gallery, it comes up fully black. The thumbnail looks correct, though. However as far as I understand it Gallery should not use thumbnailer for displaying full sized images. If that is the case then this is an issue somewhere else. [Bug 1407720] [NEW] Dash uses incorrect serialisation for indicator-network menu icons
Public bug reported: Currently indicator-network exports icons to show like this (gdbus dump): 'icons': [ ('themed', ['gsm-3g-full']), ('themed', ['nm-signal-50-secure']) ] , That is they are an array of variants (that happen to be tuples). However this seems to be incorrect. At least if you use the indicator- loader it chokes on these and refuses to draw them. The form that it accepts looks like this: 'icons': [ ('themed', ['gsm-3g-full']), ('themed', ['simcard-locked']), ('themed', ['nm-signal-75-secure']) ] That is, an array of tuple variants. [Bug 1391286] Re: Fails to generate thumbnail for small videos recorded with camera-app
What happens here is that thumbnailer calls the gst_app_sink_pull_preroll function which fails. The documentation (http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/data/doc/gstreamer/head/gst-plugins- base-libs/html/gst-plugins-base-libs-appsink.html#gst-app-sink-pull- preroll) says that this returns null if EOS has been reached. Printf debugging says that this is indeed the case, it returns null and gst_app_sink_is_eos reports true. After EOS no more samples can be obtained from the stream. The previous gstreamer method we call is gst_element_seek_simple. It returns true indicating success and the seek point we specify is valid (13400 which is less than the duration 46900). Unless someone can show that thumbnailer is using gstreamer incorrectly, it seems to be the case that gstreamer somehow internally causes EOS to be emitted. This would make this a bug in gstreamer rather than thumbnailer. For comparison I also tested GST_SEEK_FLAG_ACCURATE instead of GST_SEEK_FLAG_KEY_UNIT but the behaviour is the same. ** Also affects: gst-plugins-base1.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gst-plugins-base1.0 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Jim Hodapp (jhodapp) ** Changed in: gst-plugins-base1.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1391286 Title: Fails to generate thumbnail for small videos recorded with camera-app To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thumbnailer/+bug/1391286/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1383357] Re: enabling flight mode shows airplane + [2g|3g] icon
The reason this is happening is that NetworkManager is not sending the proper signal. In the log we should find a signal sent with value 20. This is not there. If you do 'nmcli nm' when your phone is in this state, it will get fixed (nm reinitializes its state and sends the signal it should have sent earlier). This makes this bug a duplicate of #1386109. However please do NOT mark this bug as a duplicate of that bug. [Bug 1376219] Re: qmlscene crashed with SIGABRT in __gnu_cxx::__verbose_terminate_handler() in music_app
It's hard to tell because this bug does not have upstart.mediascanner-2.0.log.txt but this probably has the same root cause as #1378113. What is happening is that somehow multiple instances of the Mediascanner daemon are running at the same time (or someone else has opened the db in rw mode, which nobody really should be doing). SQLite does not permit multiple writers in the same db at the same time so it rightfully errors out. But the question is why is this happening. There is only one MS instance and it opens the db only once. Could there be some sort of a weird timing issue with upstart (which seems extremely unlikely)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1376219 Title: qmlscene crashed with SIGABRT in __gnu_cxx::__verbose_terminate_handler() in music_app To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mediascanner2/+bug/1376219/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1368492] Re: crash opening image file
The real reason for this bug has been hiding in plain sight on this page all the time. Note the backtrace above: #5 0xacf9b466 in ThumbnailGenerator::requestImage(QString const, QSize*, QSize const) () from /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/qt5/qml/Ubuntu/Components/libUbuntuComponents.so This means that the thumbnailer plugin is invoked from libUbuntuComponents.so, which is provided by ubuntu-ui-toolkit and *not* from the plugin provided by thumbnailer. And, sure enough, in modules/Ubuntu/Components/plugin/plugin.cp we find this: try { engine-addImageProvider(QLatin1String(thumbnailer), new ThumbnailGenerator); } catch(std::runtime_error e) { qDebug() Could not create thumbnailer: e.what(); } This same piece of code can also be found in plugins/Ubuntu/Thumbnailer/plugin.cpp (along with the other two generators it provides. A quick test shows that removing the registration code from thumbnailer makes these threading bugs disappear. Apparently what happens is that if you register the same image provider into Qt twice, it gets confused and starts corrupting its own data structures. A side effect of this fix is that when you tap on a picture in the gallery app to bring it full screen, pinch-to-zoom no longer works and there is other weirdness (sometimes the image goes fully black). (As an aside, why is gallery even using the thumbnailer for this? You need the entire image for proper zooming so why not just open it directly?) To get this fixed we need to do the following: - decide with UI toolkit people on where the correct place for thumbnail image provider is - once done we need to verify if the pinching bug still happens and fix it - land all MRs dealing with the above as one clump ** Also affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu-ui-toolkit Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu-ui-toolkit Importance: Undecided = Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368492 Title: crash opening image file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/+bug/1368492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1368492] Re: crash opening image file
I instrumented thumbnailer to print some text when it is created and called. Then I copied images to the Pictures directory and clicked around. It turns out that ThumbnailGenerator::requestImage is never called. The generated thumbnails do not appear in ~/.cache/thumbnails either (which they should, unless gallery-app is requesting large enough images). I wrote a thread torture test for thumbnailer and ran it under helgrind for 15 minutes or so and it produced no thread errors. Even more strangely I can't reproduce this any more. Tapping on an image while others are loading works just fine. All of this, combined with bug #1375238, makes me suspect that there is a threading bug/buffer overrun somewhere else in the stack and it just happens to manifest itself as this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1368492 Title: crash opening image file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thumbnailer/+bug/1368492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
