[Bug 39376]
- Do editors in 2023 still save files like sth.txt~, sth.txt.bak and similars? Yes, they do. Some skip that when working inside git/hg/svn/… folder, some allow to use separate folder, but such files are still fairly frequent. - Would some users prefer not to see those files? Yes. For example myself. - Does KDE allow user to manage which files are hidden, and which are not? No, it doesn't. There is option to show or hide „Hidden files” but no way to influence which file is considered to be „Hidden”. So functionality-wise bug is just as sound and valid, as it was when it was reported. Projects make various priorities, open-source projects even more so (considering people come to work on what they fancy or what they find troublesome). Some bugs are less lucky. But if there is to be any hope, the open issue means the thought of doing sth is not abandoned. And it is somewhat heart-warming to get mail that sb. started working on issue I reported 20 years ago (OK, OK, I reported one of the early dupes, not this one) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/39376 Title: Allow hidding of backup files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kde-baseapps/+bug/39376/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1970036] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 much worse in energy saving than 21.10
Dear Erich Thank you very much. I don't know if your target is closing things or something else, but... Ignoring information, that release has got energy problems on generic hardware, ideally confirms, what's the quality. I don't know which package(s) is/are responsible for that, but in normal situation somebody could at least ask for more info or something. I don't know also what should be CPU usage (100%?), that could allow assigning it to bug category, but generally it's very bad from quality perspective, that it's ignored. Shame. I liked Ubuntu. [Bug 1970036] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 much worse in energy saving than 21.10
TLP is not answer and I already explained it. Two systems have the same energy settings (power saving on CPU cores, graphic card, etc.) and battery time is about 30% shorter. Again: problem is that there some actions done in background and CPU cores are not going into sleep so long like earlier. This seems to be gnome 42 problem... But also related to updates checking. It would be good, when somebody could start looking into it. 30% is even 10h for me and this is not in this moment "I imagine it's worse". In ideal case I should see 0% CPU usage in idle (maybe not very realistic) or at least assigning everything only to one core. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970036 Title: Ubuntu 22.04 much worse in energy saving than 21.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1970036/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1970036] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 much worse in energy saving than 21.10
Public bug reported: My laptop was updated from 21.10 to 22.04 and has got much worse battery work time (even about 30% or more). Standard Intel 11-gen with integrated graphic, no external devices. Nothing special. I'm looking into System Monitor and it looks, new release has various processes, which are started quite regurarly and are enabling various CPU cores. CPU usage is not high, but because it's regular and not done on one core... well, it leads me to question - was somebody even started thinking about it? Or just upgraded everything and was happy, that it's working? First of all it could be good to start something on next CPU cores only, when previous one are too busy. I know, it's kernel scheduler thing. Big problem. About processes in idle mode (no keyboard and touchpad pressing, no usb devices, no network, no sound playing, no camera enabled, nothing started, really only desktop): Xorg and gnome-shell - always doing something (+ shell is saving and reading a lot from disk, which increases power usage too) systemd-oomd - really? Started regularly, when I have even 20% RAM used. There should be trigger saying "use it only when for example 80% RAM is used" i915_flip - don't know what do to with that. Have only laptop screen snap-store and network manager - don't have network in this moment. Really need to run it regurarly? it should be started, when network is on gsd-housekeeping - very often snapd - even when I don't do anything pulse - even when I don't have sound update-notifier - what? even without network? this should be called only, when normal updates are checked... and when I set "check for updates daily" it should be called once a day only (or when network is connected and last check was done more than 24 h ago) I could give even much longer list and I could say "this is absolute normal", but... 21.10 was much better. Could somebody take any device and just start doing something about it ? CPU usage with spikes up to 20% in idle mode is not normal (earlier my powertop was showing about 50 events, now standard is 150 or 200) Additionally it's not possible to enable automatic suspend in time shorter than 15 minutes. Why? Why? Why? PS. with development experience > 20 years I see, that somebody really haven't looked on it from higher perspective (and now there is required some project, in which it will be checked, how things are working together). PS2. well, this problem makes, that I need either to downgrade or move to other distribution. [Bug 1933716] Re: Black screen on boot after stable update
f6f30065b430ef670e5a163577634941c20f8855 is the first bad commit commit f6f30065b430ef670e5a163577634941c20f8855 Author: Ville Syrjl Date: Thu May 6 17:44:00 2021 +0200 drm/i915: Try to use fast+narrow link on eDP again and fall back to the old max strategy on failure BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925685 Some new eDP panels don't like to operate at the max parameters, and instead we need to go for an optimal confiugration. That unfortunately doesn't work with older eDP panels which are generally only guaranteed to work at the max parameters. To solve these two conflicting requirements let's start with the optimal setup, and if that fails we start again with the max parameters. The downside is probably an extra modeset when we switch strategies but I don't see a good way to avoid that. For a bit of history we first tried to go for the fast+narrow in commit 7769db588384 ("drm/i915/dp: optimize eDP 1.4+ link config fast and narrow"). but that had to be reverted due to regression on older panels in commit f11cb1c19ad0 ("drm/i915/dp: revert back to max link rate and lane count on eDP"). So now we try to get the best of both worlds by using both strategies. v2: Deal with output_bpp and uapi vs. hw state split Reword some comments v3: Rebase Cc: Jani Nikula Cc: Rodrigo Vivi Cc: Albert Astals Cid # v5.0 backport Cc: Emanuele Panigati # v5.0 backport Cc: Matteo Iervasi # v5.0 backport Cc: Timo Aaltonen Cc: Kai-Heng Feng Reviewed-by: Manasi Navare References: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105267 References: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109959 References: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/issues/272 Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjl Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20210107182026.24848-1-ville.syrj...@linux.intel.com (cherry picked from commit 2bbd6dba84d44219387df051a1c799b7bac46099) Signed-off-by: Kai-Heng Feng Acked-by: Tim Gardner Acked-by: Stefan Bader Signed-off-by: Kleber Sacilotto de Souza drivers/gpu/drm/i915/display/intel_display_types.h | 1 + drivers/gpu/drm/i915/display/intel_dp.c| 75 +++--- 2 files changed, 67 insertions(+), 9 deletions(-) ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #105267 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105267 ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #109959 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109959 ** Bug watch added: gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/issues #272 https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/issues/272 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933716 Title: Black screen on boot after stable update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1933716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1905285] Re: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections
Hello Segio, Have you tried editing ssh@.service as well? In my case, sshd.service -> ssh.service and that is not used when ssh is in socket-activated mode, ssh@.service is, at least that's how I understand systemd. I now understand how to override the unit files with [unit- file].d/override.conf files and that at least fixes the overwrite on update issue (although I must say it's a bit unintuitive, since some of the /usr/lib/systemd/system configs are symlinked from /etc/systemd/system and IIRC you should be allowed to modify configs under /etc, but I digress). AFAICT that's precisely what `systemctl edit` does. Seth, thank you for linking the manpage, it was... educational to say the least :). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1905285 Title: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1905285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No. I won't be able to find it as I already upgraded to focal. I'm not 100% sure if it was a kernel updated or other software anyway on 20.04 issue still exists. [Bug 1752680] Re: Night light does not work after resume from suspend or unlock.
I've related issue. I'm on Focal 20.04 LTS. I did suspend my pc at night when night light was on, Resumed (from suspend) next day in the afternoon when night light should be off but it still has much more red temperature color than it should (night light is on). Event though I switch to disable night light nothing happens it still have too much red. After couple suspends and resumes night light is still on no matter if it's a day or night. It seems it only applies night light changes at time of planned toggle night and day light. @vanvugt - can it stay here or I should extract it to new bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752680 Title: Night light does not work after resume from suspend or unlock. [Bug 1882945] Re: snd_hda_intel blocks/freezes suspend
I workaround it thanks to this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1404929#p1404929 : ``` In "/etc/modprobe.d/intel.conf" put: options snd_hda_intel enable=1,0 This is how you disable or enable specific audio hardware when they share the same driver. If the wrong one gets disabled then replace "1,0" with "0,1" ``` I disabled Nvidia snd_hda_intel and kept my ALC887 from motherboard on, and now suspend works and also I've sound transmitting from my motherboard to speakers. Nvidia HDMI output provides video, but probably not audio :/ It's an issue but right now not too big for me -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1882945 Title: snd_hda_intel blocks/freezes suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1882945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1852071] Re: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS] Brightness function keys works as microphone mute function keys
Hi Jarkko, Thank you very much for your response! I did the procedure you described and it solved the problem! Brightness function keys started working properly in Ubuntu. I repeated this procedure on other ZBook Studio G5 laptops we have here and it also did the job. However! I have dual boot - after logging into Windows 10 (where buttons always work perfectly fine) and then logging again into Ubuntu brightness keys stopped working again (they were recognized as Microphone key, again). I had to do the Power Reset procedure once more which fixed the issue in Ubuntu. After testing multiple restarts Ubuntu -> Ubuntu: brightness function keys are always working fine. After just one Ubuntu -> Windows -> Ubuntu restart: brightness function keys stop working in Ubuntu (but work fine in Windows). So each time after I used Windows I must do the Power Reset procedure if I want to have brightness function keys working in Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852071 Title: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS] Brightness function keys works as microphone mute function keys To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1852071/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1852067] Re: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Conexant Generic, Speaker, Internal] No sound from built-in speakers after disconnecting headphones. Prior to connecting headphones speakers works ok.
Thank you Hui Wang for your quick answer. Could you help me with install and then uninstall procedure? I understand that I have to install all these kernel packages with "sudo dpkg -i". But: 1. What is the order of installation of these packages? 2. After installation how can I switch from current kernel to this new kernel? Currently I use "5.0.0-35-generic #38~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 11 09:16:10 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux" 3. What if this new kernel won't boot my computer? Will be there any backup kernel installed? 4. After tests what should I do get back to "stock" kernel? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852067 Title: [HP ZBook Studio G5, Conexant Generic, Speaker, Internal] No sound from built-in speakers after disconnecting headphones. [Bug 1852083] [NEW] [HP ZBook Studio G5, Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, bluetooth mouse] Choppy/laggy bluetooth mouse cursor movement
Public bug reported: 1. Pair Logitech MX Master 3 bluetooth mouse with Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (don't use Logitech bluetooth dongle, use built in laptop bluetooth) 2. Move cursor. Cursor movement is choppy, laggy, like it's having 20 FPS refresh rate. Workaround: execute in terminal: `sudo hcitool lecup --handle 3585 --latency 0 --min 6 --max 8` This command must be used every time the mouse is connected to the laptop (after turning on the laptop, after some time of mouse inactivity etc.).
