[Bug 1294899] Re: Import saved VPN connection has been Recently Broken
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 (fully updated). Recently, something has broken the existing (was working ok!) Import VPN and Disconnect VPN (both now greyed out) options in network manager menu available at the top of the display. I confirm this is in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, not a more recent release. I am continuing using VPN, based on openvpn I believe, which I have previously imported, this continues to be displayed, and work. However the menu option to 'Disconnect VPN' no longer is offered (greyed out). I have a second intallation of Ubuntu 12.04 on the machine (multi boot) and it also shows the same problem. I note that previously, above, on 2014-09-08 I said I would have liked to start using the later LTS being Ubuntu 14.04, however, the bug in Network Manager(?) prevented me, because I use VPN a lot. [Bug 1076880] Re: network speed incorrectly reported in System Monitor using VPN
Hi Robert The axis labels seem appropriate to the speed value apparently seen by system monitor. It is th eapparent speed value seen by system monitor which is too large. To keep th einitial report simple, I did not mention the similar apparent inaccuracy in system monitor indication of upload speed also, in fact it was the upload speed being (incorrectly far too large that brought my attention to this - I am using VPN for the first time and running (Ubuntu, floss) torrents in Transmission. With VPN the upload speed is shown as say, 90 (ish) but I have set the global up speed to be limited to 45. It was my concern that I had either lost control of the upload speed, or thatsomehow VPN was throwing a very fast upload capability. My ISP doe not traffic shape at all, and also I could not can not see why a VPN should cause a large increase in what should be a controlled speed of upload. My expected max upload speed should be just over 100, say 120 (ISP says currently - Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1.072 / 7.407) My conclusion fwiw is that Transmission seems to report correct (upload ) speeds (set to say 50) when VPN is used, but System Monitor seems to give incorrectly high indications, and also not steady values either. [Bug 887341] Re: Unity launcher animation wrongly implies slowness
I add this comment because I have now been using Unity continuously (not just occasional tests as I had used it previously) on my main machine for a month and I am even more convinced that the Launcher Icon animation and response to user click gives a pretty bad impression. Not only does the animation make the user (me) feel depressed because of the slowness (already detailed in earlier comments) but even on my fairly fast quad core machine, it is never possible to be sure that an app is actually started! At the instant of mouse click on the icon, that is. This is the actual moment when the user has decided what they want - they want to start this app. A click does nothing - repeat - nothing - to (immediately) confirm to the user that Unity is responding. This is a real downer, and I believe is responsible for some of the ongoing negative reaction about the Launcher, and, probably, Unity itself. I -implore- you to reconsider the priority of this bug and set it to a high priority. Aside comment: My more serious use of Unity has now shown that an associated bug also exists, which is pretty important if Ubuntu wants to roll out to a wider user base, to users who are not tuned to very rapidly use mouse clicks, like myself. This causes me endless irritation and uncertainty all the time - Unity is -hard- to love (however worthy!) as long as small but important GUI irritations and suggestions of slowness are placed directly between the user and what they are immediately trying to do: #992132 Launcher icons go into 'move position' mode too quickly -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887341 Title: Unity launcher animation wrongly implies slowness To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/887341/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I must be able to get the hidden launcher back in view in an effortless way, which at the moment does not happen. [Bug 985119] Re: [soundnua]: doesn't offer 'Analogue stereo Output' option
@Conor Curran (cjcurran) It is not to do with sound output, or streaming, as is used in say skype, or play audio from bbc radio, it is specific to capture of that audio, and how that is managed in a recording app (Sound Recorder). I do not know much about this but I think it might be related to something called 'loopback'. I tried using another mixer - I installed QasMixer from Ubntu Software Centre, and in a new install of Ubuntu (no gnome classic available) recording is ok if 'loopback enable' is set. I guess that loopback is a facility to tap into the played audio, for record function. Duplex is presumably a facility to use both in and out streams simultaneously, yet this does not (presumably) feed the record input facility, so sound clips cannot be captured. tia -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985119 Title: [soundnua]: doesn't offer 'Analogue stereo Output' option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/985119/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 949130] Re: Display corrupts and flashes when changing resolution on GMA X3000
I raised a bug which I think is a duplicate of this bug. Mine is #993405 and is now marked as a duplicate of this bug. In my machine (details at my bug entry) the display got impossible and I was considering a reinstall, but I then remembered I had used nomodeset successfully on other old machines. I used nomodeset and it worked! :-) This is in a machine in which the 12.04 desktop 32 bit live cd worked fine! even apparently using 3D also. However, after install, I think 3D was no longer available, and although the default high resolution of the display worked ok, the user wanted a lower res (!) and it was after choosing lower res that the display really screwed up, and there was no going back (doh!) At least I could not find a way. But use of nomodeset in the boot string (grub menu visible, press e, and add nomodeset in appropriate place) and then making the change permanent /etc/default/grub (add nomodeset appropriately, and then update-grub) all worked. So although for me this bug was a complete show stopper, the nomodeset workaround means I now have no more problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/949130 Title: Display corrupts and flashes when changing resolution on GMA X3000 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/949130/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 993405] [NEW] Much screen corruption 12.04 updated after change screen resolution
Public bug reported: (Not sure if it is xorg) This looks very very similar to existing bug #949130 The linked video in that bug shows exactly th eproblem, good video. I am simply filing this here because the machine is mostly unusable and a more clever relationship to the existing bug is not possible for me here. Details: New install ubuntu 12.04 on dell dimension E520, went ok, screen res as installed 1024x [1000 ish] good however, user wanted larger text and icons = lower screen res. At lower screen res the display then totally unusable, with no way to get back!! I did not realise what caused it a the time. I then used recovery mode to install Lubuntu desktop, which installed ok and looked ok. Byt again te large icions were requested and like an unkowing dolt I reduced te screen res, and bam, totaly unusabl;e screen display AGAIN. No way of getting back to the high res which was working. After initial ubuntu install (which btw was a warm install from cd but special in that the home directory was not set to be formattted so home data was preserved) I almost immediately did updates but only a few available at this early date. After Lubuntu desktop install again I did updates but with hindsight I think th eculprit is th ereduction of screen resolution, or at least its change, which in this case was always to reduced res. NOTE I am filing this bug using i think open box desktop (not ubuntu and not Lubuntu) because the others hav edisplays (now) which are totally un usable. Note It would be *very* useful if I knew a way to reset the screen res to default or high res using CL from recovery mode, but I dont. lspci output: [code] == user@user-Dell-DM061:~$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82P965/G965 Memory Controller Hub (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82P965/G965 PCI Express Root Port (rev 02) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562V 10/100 Network Connection (rev 02) 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) 00:1a.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 (rev 02) 00:1a.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev f2) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801HH (ICH8DH) LPC Interface Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corporation 82801 SATA Controller [RAID mode] (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) SMBus Controller (rev 02) == [/code] tia ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic-pae 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic-pae i686 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom] CompositorRunning: None CurrentDmesg: [ 14.864777] e1000e :00:19.0: eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO [ 14.864937] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready [ 25.624022] eth0: no IPv6 routers present Date: Wed May 2 17:33:12 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:29a2] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01dd] Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01dd] MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 992132] [NEW] Launcher icons go into 'move position' mode too quickly
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 3D, Ubuntu 12.04 clean install then fully updated. I mouse click on a Launcher icon to start an app, say firefox whatever, and the app does not start as I expect it should. I mouse click on the icon very quickly, with a very brief click, and the app starts as I expect I wondered what was wrong - I sometimes noticed the icon make a small movement, and thought at first that I was not simply clicking but maybe also moving. But not so, my mouse skills are good and my dexterity is good. What seems to be happening is that I am not releasing the click fast enough. Even though for me, the mouse click I normally use is quite fast, the launcher icon still has long enough to often behave as if I was holding the click down in order to move icon position. Which I am not, I just want to start the app and it often does not start. Adjustment of the 'Settings, mouse, double click speed' do not seem to make any difference. I would guess that the speed of click required for Launcher app start event seems to (intuitively) be aproximately 75 milliseconds or maybe less. Anything longer than that does not start the app(!) but only enables icon move. This short time is on the lower limit (or below the limit) of my own comfortable mouse use. I need it to be nominally twice as long, if not adjustable(?) If there is a file to edit please let me know? I am beginning to ignore click start of icons but to use right click on the icon, and menu, which is less optimal. [Bug 991086] [NEW] Thunderbird does not shut down fully - Addon Firetray culprit
Public bug reported: When thunderbird is shut down, the launcher indicates it is not active, however, a subsequent click on the tbird launcher icon fails to start tbird again. A right hand click on the icon shows that 'contacts' and 'compose new msg' are still available, and they do work from this situation. A system monitor view shows that even though tbird has been closed, then a process of thunderbird.bin is still existing. Ending that process then allows tbird to be re started as normal. A log out and log in again also allows a tbird restart ok. [Bug 991086] Re: Thunderbird does not shut down fully - Addon Firetray culprit
Ah! I notice that I have addon Firetray 0.4.1 installed. In Unity it may have less value than previously and it is supposed to be active at the shutdown events. I have disabled Firetray, and the problem apparently ceases, thunderbird shuts down ok. So this does not seem like a thunderbird package problem, more like an addon non compatibility of Firetray 0.4.1 I hav eedited the bug title adding 'Addon Firetray culprit' Please advise on bug status, validity etc? ** Summary changed: - Thunderbird does not shut down fully + Thunderbird does not shut down fully - Addon Firetray culprit -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991086 Title: Thunderbird does not shut down fully - Addon Firetray culprit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/991086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 987253] [NEW] Precise ubiquity used unintended space/partition
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 12.04 daily build cd 32 bit image on date 2012 04 23 During the early stage of install using choice Install Alongside' I am fairly sure gparted indicated (looking during an early part of the installation process) that a big unpartitioned space was at that time, indicated as 'Target'. However, during the actual installation I did not notice any activity labelled as formatting' or 'making filesystem'. And when now finally running the installed ubuntu 12.04 as mentioned, the new install has been done OVER on top of the pre installed 12.04, I think without formatting. This makes some, if not perfect, sense. However, it means that it is doing quite a bit MORE than - installing 'alongside'. But, installing silently OVER my test 12.04 as a warm reinstall is not quite what I had expected This machine has a complex hardware: It is a complex machine structure with four hard drives, multi booting from whichever grub was last used. XP and Win 7 also. There are many partitions, some used for backup reasons, and several large un partitioned unallocated spaces. The install seemed to be (initially) going ahead using a previously unallocated space of 86GB, which is nice because the ability to install easily into unallocated space had been missing for a few ubuntu versions. The install process went quickly. I would have been happier if I had been asked just to 'confirm my choice before fully proceeding to write to disc. I had intended only to go as far as the 'Confirm' point, because this machine is not yet fully imaged and wanted to avoid a big screw up without good preparation. Not only did I not see at any point asking for a 'confirmation', but an existing installation was overwritten! Many newcomers will shrink Windows and then want to install alongside. If it is reliable, I can prompt those newcomers in that direction. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987253 Title: Precise ubiquity used unintended space/partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/987253/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 985119] Re: [soundnua]: doesn't offer 'Analogue stereo Output' option
In my (three) machines, skype works afaik (uses usb, which is an external audio and vid device) however, when listening to streaming audio or the Examples files for example, the -built in- audio is used ok, but no record level is got from the sound recorder. Note that using the gnome classic desktop environment, the successful choices *can* be made. And still, (in gnome classic) duplex does not give audio to sound recorder, only output does. In this machine I have, by chance, also got gnome classic login session available. I notice that in sound settings, using gnome classic desktop environment, the mode using 'Analogue stereo Output', works ok. However, in Unity, only 'Analogue stereo duplex' (not 'Analogue stereo Output') is offered and this does not work, (and in other earlier versions of Ubuntu over the years, has never worked in these three different machines). It seems to me to be significant that the particular setting is not offered, or is not recognised. [Bug 955934] Re: Cheese webcam app not recognise logitech cam C250
@ Vadim Rutkovsky (roignac) Thank you 1) I installed Ubuntu 12.04 beta1 and completed updates I used ubuntu software centre to install cheese webcam app I connected the usb of Logitech webcam C250 to the PC I started cheese webcam app. 2) I expected that when cheese app started, an animation should appear in the cheese window suggesting connection of cheese to the webcam and graphic data display starting, then almost immediately I expect a picture displayed from the web cam. 3) Cheese app started, and showed an empty, black, cheese window, with tabs greyed out. There was no progress animation indication of webcam connection, and there was no cam picture. Comment: This webcam otherwise works with other apps in this machine and with this ubuntu, as mentioned in notes above earlier. The webcam also works normally using the camorama webcam viewer app. However it does not work using cheese app. Background information: bug #886954 was raised when I believed the problem was wider than just cheese, and tests, including upstream kernel tests were done there. Cheese app worked with this cam in earlier ubuntu version: 10.04 updated, but stopped working from ubuntu 11.04 onwards. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/955934 Title: Cheese webcam app not recognise logitech cam C250 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cheese/+bug/955934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 948949] Re: dash does not open with correct focus
More information: As mentioned above, I have also installed on a second test machine, and the dash focus works ok on that PC. So I tried another thing: I tried the second machine as ubuntu 2d session. In the 2d session I get the same behaviour as in my 'problem machine - that is no apps lens. Also, with the benefit of now knowing how it (probably) should work, in 3d and 2d, I see that the 'working' PC, in 3d, has a facility to resize the launcher icon, which works in 3d but is not present in 2d. So my suggestion thus far is that in my problem machine, what may be happening is that ubuntu 3d is not running, and it falls back to 2d, however the login 2D is not set, it continues to *indicate* 3D at login even though 2d may be being used or forced. If so, then the bug should be towards an improved or correct indication of either 2d or 3d (if on fall back to 2d) thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948949 Title: dash does not open with correct focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/948949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

1) If I hit super, (only) and hold it, then within a very short time (guess 200 milliseconds, or quarter of a second), the launcher icons are shown with black numerals on them. 2) If I hit and hold super and tap 'a' within the above quarter second, nothing changes on the display, no applications lens 3) If I hit and hold super and tap 'a' within the above quarter second, release the 'a' key brief pause and again tap the 'a' key while super is continued to be held down, again no change on the display, no applications lens If there is a way to directly connect to the machine, my test machine I would be happy to try that. alan On 11/03/12 12:23, Omer Akram wrote: if you hold super and tap 'A' and again tap 'A' does the applications lens appear or not? -- alan cocks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948949 Title: dash does not open with correct focus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/948949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 887341] [NEW] Unity launcher animation wrongly implies slowness
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 11.10 (or 11.04) I see the Unity launcher icons animate when used, however the style of the animation and particularly the graphical animation cycle time gives a user impression that things are happening slowly. This is an unfortunate impression, and might be fixable. I measure the animation cycle period to be approximately 2.5 seconds. Even watching an analogue clock face seconds hand is boring, and that is 2 1/2 times faster than the launcher icon animation. Subjective impression is a subtle thing, I like Unity, but using it more just recently I wondered why I felt frustrated, and I think this animation is one significant factor. I have seen many adverse comments on Unity and most are not specific. I think 'impression' may be important in some of these cases. I suggest that launcher icon animation be considered such that *immediately* on selection, a fast and brief animation is seen, maybe a shiver or a boundary size toggle small and back again. Then for the remainder of the waiting time something non changing such as a dimmed brightness of the icon or other non changing feature, simply confirming that action is in progress. But whatever is seen from the animation it must not be slow, which easily is interpreted as a poor response. HTH ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887341 Title: Unity launcher animation wrongly implies slowness To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/887341/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
