Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-26-686 Bug is also described on the Ubuntu forums at: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=187770 I have a D-Link DGE-530T that isn't detected by Ubuntu Dapper using the kernel linux-image-2.6.15-26-686. [Bug 40324] Re: Nicer Icons
Ok, now using Tango icons on edgy. I am sorry to say that they suck. They are mushy and indistinct on the default panel. Here are the specific issues: On battery power: Too much extraneous colour, obscuring how much battery is left On AC: Cord is very light grey, fading into panel FWIW, the panel applet in OS X is very nice. Two colours and very easy to see relative levels. Now I realize we cannot go that simple, but we can be better than this. ** Summary changed: - Nicer Icons + Icons are mushy and indistinct ** Description changed: - Until gnome-power-manager is icon-theme-aware, it would be nice if the - icons could be changed to tango icons. There is a complete set of tango - icons for g-p-m, they work nicely with both Human and Tangerine and even - look better with the stock Gnome theme than the current icons. Would be - nice to get this in before dapper's release. - - Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gnome- - power-manager'; however, that package was not published in Baltix. + Gnome-power-manager now has tango icons, but they are mushy and + indistinct. -- Icons are mushy and indistinct https://launchpad.net/bugs/40324 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53754] Re: ata_piix problem with Intel ICH7 chipset
A small update. Today I have struck a lucky chord: it's already almost 5h uptime and not a single hang (and, therefore, my wireless connection is working happily). If I do a dmesg, the following suspicious lines appear: [17179641.092000] cdrom: sr0: mrw address space DMA selected [17179641.116000] Assertion failed! qc->n_elem > 0,drivers/scsi/libata-core.c,ata_fill_sg,line=2531 [17179641.376000] cdrom: sr0: mrw address space DMA selected [17179641.38] Assertion failed! qc->n_elem > 0,drivers/scsi/libata-core.c,ata_fill_sg,line=2531 Whatever that means, I have not seen them before (and I don't remember updating the kernel from yesterday to today). The system seems to work perfectly fine, with no evident negative consequences of the failed assertion, and with no hangs. The CD works seemingly OK, and copying large files out of it doesn't clog the CPU, but the maximum transfer speed seems to be around 2 MB/s. I'd rather endure that than the hangs. If any of you know of any way to force the "mrw address space DMA", that might be a good enough workaround for the moment... I'll leave the computer running overnight to be sure, and then reboot and see if it magically works again... -- ata_piix problem with Intel ICH7 chipset https://launchpad.net/bugs/53754 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 55843] Erratic keyboard repeat
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6-386 Ubuntu Lite 6.06 LTS Keyboard is randomly erratic with linux-image-2.6.15-26 loaded. With 2.6.15-23 it is always stable. The symptom is a random logical key sticking causing multiple characters to be generated for a single keypress. It affects all X.org apps but never the terminals (tty1-6). It doesn't always occur, but when it occurs, it is constant untill reboot. If it doesn't start by login (wdm), it never occurs during the entire session. There are no messages in the log that indicate any problem and a comparison between those of good and bad sessions yields no clues. I'm not sure if it is related to bug 39315 (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/39315). I had similar problems with Xubuntu 6.06 LTS. [Bug 55813] Re: Acquire::http::proxy breaks things with apt proxies like apt-cacher
Here's a fix for apt. Basically, the URI class tests whether or not it's epmty by checking whether the Access string (ie, "http") is empty. The only URI methods where that's actually the case are "file" and "copy"; the rest require both the Access string and the Host string. So, the attached patch changes URI::empty() to check if the Access and Host strings are empty; if either of them are, then consider the URI to be empty. Special case "file" and "copy", allowing them to have an empty Host string. A better fix might be to drop URI::empty altogether, and have the individual methods check whether or not they've been fed a valid string. That would be a much larger fix though. -- Acquire::http::proxy breaks things with apt proxies like apt-cacher https://launchpad.net/bugs/55813 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 55826] Crashes when accessing many websites
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I think this problem comes from the automatic installation of the flash plugin through firefox (not an installation by apt). Since I installed flash, firefox has kept on crashing on websites (which contains flash I think because simple pages and many forums aren't crashing). I can't be sure because the site doesn't display at all. I purged (with synaptic) all the flash-related packages to see if it would solve the problem, without success. I don't know how to uninstall the automatic-installed flash plugin without purge firefox. Here is the message from the terminal : [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ $ firefox The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'. (Details: serial 118 error_code 8 request_code 147 minor_code 3) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) Sorry for my english, I'm french. Hope it'll help and thanks for your work. :) ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Crashes when accessing many websites https://launchpad.net/bugs/55826 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I find the 'headers' bit to be redundant; "linux-libc-dev" seems to convey the appropriate meaning, emphasizes that this is part of Linux rather than part of libc and is much shorter. I'm not too picky about it, though, so long as the description doesn't have the word "kernel" in it anywhere so that people don't find it when looking for headers for kernel modules. ;-) -- - mdz -- linux-kernel-headers is poorly named https://launchpad.net/bugs/35186 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Not only that, but libc6-dev depends on just the package name, unversioned. I am renaming it to libc-dev-linux-headers, and providing linux-kernel-headers. [Bug 51422] Re: [Bug 51422] Re: not a bug but usefull suggestion
I agree, but Ubuntu can still start en run on that computer. If someone dos not know anything about DMA etc... changes are that Ubuntu looses a user because he/she did see the messages and concluded that it is not going to work. My point is that because there seems to be a alternative try in the install-procedure, we should communicate correct about that procedure to the user. Otherwise we could as well delete that from the procedure. > Why doesn't DMA work on your drive?
