[Bug 56168] Re: k3b should *not* calculate md5 sum of images by default
Look here: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/multimedia/k3b/ChangeLog?rev=518009view=markup 0.7.5: MD5 sum is only calculated on demand (but still asynchronous) If I read this correctly things should be fixed in a later version. ** Changed in: k3b (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- k3b should *not* calculate md5 sum of images by default https://launchpad.net/bugs/56168 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 56168] Re: k3b should *not* calculate md5 sum of images by default
*sigh* I'm always thrown off by that single-to-double digit version number. It looks like what you were asking for was or should have been fixed in 0.7.5 but since ours is more current I'm guessing that either I haven't understood something or the fix didn't work. Anyway, I've confirmed the bug since I see it too. -- k3b should *not* calculate md5 sum of images by default https://launchpad.net/bugs/56168 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 55913] Re: Firefox default Homepage should now reffer to 6.06.1
Thanks for this Matt: About Ubuntu and all the other ubuntu-specific documents all get their version number from the same file, so changing that will change it all. The firefox homepage is separate from this scheme, so if you want to leave that and upload new -docs packages with the change to About Ubuntu, we can. But it strikes me that the inconsistency might confuse users a bit. If it were up to me I'd try and ensure the users see the same version number. If you have any thoughts on this, just repost. Bear in mind the firefox homepage change would be a one-line job. Otherwise, we can proceed and make some -docs packages and change the version number for the documents, and not the firefox homepage. [Bug 32042] Re: OpenGL subroutine man pages missing
I didn't start using Ubuntu until Dapper, so I'm not aware of the original Ubuntu package that would have stored this data. However, given how useful it's been to me, I scrounged around for a while and found the Debian package that contains the manpages (along with some debug libraries): http://packages.debian.org/stable/libdevel/xlibmesa-gl-dev Manually unpacking and copying the manpages over has really made me happy :). Not sure if that's helpful for building the final package, but it's certainly useful for me in the interim. I didn't see any licensing info in the pages themselves; but since they're in debian stable it seems like there shouldn't be too much of a conflict. -- OpenGL subroutine man pages missing https://launchpad.net/bugs/32042 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 55913] Re: [Bug 55913] Re: Firefox default Homepage should now reffer to 6.06.1
If the inconsistency with the Firefox default page is an issue, I'd prefer to remove the version number entirely. It doesn't need to be there, and it's just one more opportunity for human error when doing releases. Indeed, it would be best if the About Ubuntu document automatically substituted its version number based on lsb_release, so that we have even fewer things to change. -- - mdz -- Firefox default Homepage should now reffer to 6.06.1 https://launchpad.net/bugs/55913 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 36532] Re: Unable to print text or ps/pdf to gutenprint printer
The file /etc/cups/pstoraster.convs is present in the gs-esp deb package but doing a --reinstall does not result in it being copied to the filesystem :( So I did a $ sudo dpkg --purge --force-all gs-esp followed by a $ sudo apt-get install gs-esp This resulted in a fully working printer using the gutenprint driver with an unmodified ppd. I deleted the printer and re-added it to make sure. So it appears to me there is a bug in the install script for gs-esp which does not install pstoraster.conv if the package is already configured even when the file is missing therefore only affecting upgraded systems and not newly installed systems. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gtranslator By default, keybindings for Go-Previous and Go-Next menu commands are Ctrl+Left and Ctrl+Right. [Bug 56184] Xorg crashes on various occasions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I noticed an huge amount of xorg crashes on a lot of differents occasions. Crashes always happens when I do one of thoses actions : - use firefox : firefox usual crash itself when it does parse intensive javascript (gmail...), but that's not this bug object. Whatever the action I do, it can, randomly (and very very rarely), totaly freeze xorg (excepted sometimes the mouse). On my computer (1 Go of RAM, AMD 64, Ubuntu Dapper Drake x86 with k7 kernel) it happened 1 time, but on my girlfriend's one (laptop, 256Mo of RAM, Pentium II, Ubuntu Dapper Drake x86) it happened several times - use a lot of RAM. Happened a lot of time with Eclipse, and mathematical applications. The crash that made me do that report was with Qalculate, when I asked it to derivate a 45000 entries plot. Then, that bug is quite embarrassing as bug, but could be more : if a privilege-less user can crash xorg by surfing the web, and the crash is obviously related to memory, there is (I think) a high risk to have some security hole... Oh, and I play the music using mpd. Then I can be sure that xorg is the only freezed software (even if it locks keyboard...), because the music is still playing when it crashes. [Bug 54002] Re: No need to convert LVM volumes to UUIDs
Initramfs scripts cannot mount my root on lvm volume since conversion to UUID. I think that the /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm script which is supposed to activate the root on lvm volume is unable to work with a root partition specified as an UUID: it try to parse the root partition variable using a '/dev/mapper/something' pattern. I also think that it cannot be made to work as the vgchange tool need a volume group name which I don't see how it can be guessed from just the UUID of a not-yet activated logical volume belonging to this volume group. It can be workarounded by modifying back /boot/grub/menu.lst but you also have to manually tweak the update-grub script as it blindly want to convert it back to an UUID on each invocation. -- No need to convert LVM volumes to UUIDs https://launchpad.net/bugs/54002 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kweather Running Dapper 6.06 AMD64 and kweather 3.5.2-0ubuntu3. 1. Installed kweather from UK dapper/main repository for the first time. 2. Added applet to kicker. 3. Configure window automatically appeared. Expected result: Configuration options for kweather. Actual result: Configure window is blank, and says Empty page at the top. I get the same result right-clicking on the applet in kicker and choosing Configure kweather This makes kweather unusable, since I can't set it up. ** Affects: kdetoys (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Configure kweather window is blank https://launchpad.net/bugs/56189 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56196] winmodem support
Public bug reported: Perhaps this won't be considered a bug, but I think it should be. I've experimented with various distros, and I've found that the internal winmodem in my laptop (IBM X31 ThinkPad) just works with Kanotix. I did not download and install any additional drivers - it was automatically detected by Kanotix and the driver loaded. Unfortunately, the winmodem does not work with Ubuntu, which surprises me since Kanotix is also Debian-based. For me this is a big issue, because I'm presently stuck on dial-up, and I cannot use an external serial modem because my laptop lacks a serial port. I suppose a PCMCIA modem would work, but I don't have one and they are no longer easy to find. I realize that winmodems are a headache for developers, but if it can work on Kanotix, surely it could be made to work on Ubuntu. Perhaps the following specs will be helpful - from the lspci command, my modem is identified thus: :00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 01) Kanotix mounts the modem as /dev/ttySL0 Thank you and best regards, Robert Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'kernel- image'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- winmodem support https://launchpad.net/bugs/56196 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 52953] Re: Proprietary Firmware in default Linux-image-xxx
Of course. But a Ubuntu user must have the freedom to remove the non-free material easily. The problem is not it's included, the problem is it's included in the kernel package so user can't remove it unless by recompiling linux. And splitting linux-image in a free-as-in-freedom part and a free-as-in- free-beer part doesn't cost anything.
