[Bug 56503] Re: line in /etc/apt/apt.conf incompatible with reverse proxy mirrors

2006-08-17 Thread Craig Sampson
Hmm, I was just about to log a bug myself with a strange problem only
apparently occuring on fresh installs of Dapper or Edgy (not upgraded).

I run an 'approx' local .deb cache, (used to be aptproxy but the bug is
the same for both). Pointing the sources.list to my local cache
(approx) gives forbidden errors as you describe above - however, after
scanning around on the approx developer page someone gave me a hint and
I wonder if it holds true for the bug you describe as well:

1) open a terminal/change to a VT and su/log in as root.

2) clear the http_proxy environment variable with export http_proxy=

3) try apt-get update and see if it works (it does here).

For me this fixes the problem with the local cache - I wonder if it will
work for you?

If this doesn't work for you then I will open a new bug report as
something else is going on and fubarring local cache/repositories.

Regards,
Craig

 Here is short explanation from

runlevel S: the first runlevel in boot process.
/etc/init.d/rcS script will be invoked to start and
all the processes underneath /etc/rcS.d will be

runlevel 1: the single user mode. All processes

[Bug 46153] Re: Dapper: firefox 1.5.0.3 crashes on certain sites

2006-08-17 Thread erbogasto
Good morning, excuse me for being so late in answers !
I don't have a nVidia video card but a Matrox G450 Dual Head .
This morning I found the solution !!!
The problem is that the site is in flash and while browsing it with swiftfox
(sources unzipped in my home)everything was good (no crashes at all)cause the
plugins where linked to /usr/lib/firefox/plugins .
After installing the .deb hosted for ubuntu by the Swiftfox Project,I've
experienced the same crashes in the site as first descripted, then decided to
see the difference and I noticed that the plugins where linked to
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins and not all the plugs of
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins where present,so after manually copying them
EVERYTHING WORKS with firefox 1.5.0.5 !
Now I'm asking why are there two directories (/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox and
/usr/lib/firefox) that create a bit of confusion ?
Why various plugins (expecially flashplugin-nonfree)dont'install correctly all
parts ?

Hope this helps
Ciao Andrea :)

[Bug 56286] Re: vmplayer fails to start if usernames are stored in LDAP

2006-08-17 Thread Lionel Porcheron
Yes, I agree that the workaround is uggly.

I can not reproduce it here:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ vmplayer
/usr/lib/vmware-player/bin/vmplayer:
/usr/lib/vmware-player/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0: no version information
available (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)

Nevertheless:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep lionel /etc/passwd
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Do you have a home directory with write permissions on it ? It seems
that the problem is linked with writing something.

Does somebody from VMware has an idea ?

[Bug 56583] Re: [Bug 56583] Re: Gnome-session-manager crashes when some dbus apps run

2006-08-17 Thread QuinnStorm
Sorry, I meant to mention that. I use edgy, and one good example that
triggers it is compiz, another being cgwd, I know they are both
unsupported applications (at least the versions I run), but either way
they should not be able to trigger a crash in gnome-session-manager.

The best way I know of to trigger the crash is to stop and start one or
both of them a few times. The crash is not 100% reliable, but will
eventually happen. Because gnome-session-manager is the sm, it won't
let any other apps start, so you won't see it crashed until you look in
the process list and see that it spawned a bug-buddy, or see that you
can't start any more X apps.

[Bug 56675] Real Player and Opera are displayed but not installable on amd64

2006-08-17 Thread VF
Public bug reported:

Running the amd64 version of Ubuntu, when I open gnome-app-install and
select Opera or Real Player, it informs me that I need to enable the
commercial channel. When I consent to this, it downloads a new package
list, then displays the 'checking installed and available applications'
progress bar, and, finally, asks me to enable dapper-commercial again.
It does this over and over again, forever, until I cancel.

I believe this is because there are no amd64 packages of these
applications in the repositories. In this case, they should not be
displayed as installable on amd64.

[Bug 56673] Re: Installer crash

2006-08-17 Thread sleeper
I think this error is related somehow to qtparted.
The reason why I think that is this: when qtparted is started and when I click
on the disk (/dev/sda), qtparted tries to read partition info
(ntfs,xfs,xfs,fat32,ntfs) and then crashes. The same occurs in the installer
when it tries to read partition info.

[Bug 55453] Re: Gnome Trash don't empty

2006-08-17 Thread StarQuake
I think I had the same problem. It said there was 1 item. But there was none in

In the file .gnome/gnome-vfs/.trash_entry_cache it seems it caches information

anymore. When I deleted the file, and reloaded the trashcan applet by
removing/adding it (maybe logout would work too) it was working probably again.

[Bug 44329] Re: Tiger won't run when using varrun filesystem

I have heard from one of the developers that tiger stores status
information in that directory as well, so neither of our solutions will

Last I heard they were going to move WORKDIR into /var/lib. I don't know

[Bug 36592] Re: Crash when clicking New Printer twice

I went through all the steps to install the debugging packages and guess
what - I can't reproduce it with those installed! Two double clicks
just gives two dialogs, as expected. When I restored the standard
package, the crash returned.

I did notice that the crash reported is in gnome-printer-view, rather
than gnome-cups-add as I might have expected.

Here is the debugging info it shows when I click inform developers and
then show debugging details:

[Bug 56678] package misses upsteam docs (- 1.6-1)

2006-08-17 Thread Stefan Kost
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk-doc-tools

gtk-doc has a developer manual since several versions that gets
installed when I compile form source and then can be read via yelp. This
document is not part of the ubunto package for unknow reason. I spent
substantial amount of time to write the manual and I still recive
question about gtk-doc form people. Is there a ubuntu specific problem
with this manual? Why is it not included?

[Bug 56679] edgy: eth0/1 assigned randomly on install

Public bug reported:

My Thinkpad T23 has e100 and orinoco -devices, and I need to netboot
install from wired network, but the device-names are assigned randomly
making it problematic.. Could udev make wired network devices always
have a higher priority to populate eth0-?

[Bug 45002] Re: The gconf daemon takes upto one minute to exit

2006-08-17 Thread David Johnson
I've now got a workaround:

Append '-l' to the umount command in /etc/security/pam_mount.conf. That
causes umount to remove the volume from the filesystem immediately and
unmount it properly when it is no longer busy (i.e. gconfd exits).

[Bug 56682] Raster fonts appear in Edgy

2006-08-17 Thread Chris Lord
Public bug reported:

When using gecko-based browsers (so Firefox, Epiphany, devhelp, etc.),
raster fonts very commonly appear. As well as looking terribly ugly,
this also triggers the xorg ABI-breakage bug in the nvidia driver, so is
doubly annoying.

I'm afraid I don't know much about X/fonts to fix this myself, will this
be fixed soon, or is there anything I can quickly do to fix it?

[Bug 56685] upgrade from 1.2.0 to 1.2.2 makes Canon iP4200 unusable

2006-08-17 Thread Florian Labrouche
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys-client

OS : Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake
Computer : laptop Asus A7V-R024H

I recently tried to install my Canon ip4200 inkjet printer, using the official
Canon drivers. As I update regularly my system, cupsys-client was update as
well as ubuntu-dektop, hence I had the newest version of cupsys-client (1.2.2)
Following the installation described on a French ubuntu wiki (
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/materiel/imprimante_canon_ip_4200 ), it ends up with
the printer not working i.e it pauses automatically, no document whatsoever
would be printed.
After some research, it results that cupsys-client must be set to the original
dapper version (1.2.0) to allow the printer to function correctly. I used
Synaptic to do so (force version then block version).
The main problem is that now metapacket ubuntu-dektop is removed.

[Bug 54619] Re: ether_sprintf is in both wlan and new_wlan

2006-08-17 Thread stanwebber
ok, final problem solved...the device id list in ath/if_ath_pci.c is
crippled, ostensibly to not interfere with old ath_pci module. i've
attached the file with the restored device id list

new_ath_pci is now working perfectly on my system now. a few caveats if
you attempt this yourself with my attachments:

source install will detect old madwifi--just select ignore

source installs to /lib/modules/'uname -r'/net instead of madwifi-ng
(rename after reboot run: depmod -a)

linux-restricted-modules compiles new_ath_hal each time on startup so
copy ah_osdep.o, hal.o, new_ath_hal.mod.o from your madwifi-ng/ath
compile directory to lib/linux-restricted-modules/'uname
-r'/new_ath_hal. also delete new_ath_hal from /lib/modules/'uname
-r'/net

edit /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common add:
DISABLED_MODULES=ath_hal

[Bug 31517] Re: hal-device-manager does not load

2006-08-17 Thread Tolan Blundell
I've finally found what was kicking this off, though I think it's more a
symptom than a cause.

I had SMB shares auto-mounting. Removing them from fstab fixed the
problem, lshal now gives output and update-notifier now works.

From the variety of fixes that have worked for people it looks to me
like something in the start-scripts for hal is being brittle...
