Consider a new text field, adjacent to the 'command' field, in which the user types the command's arguments. The 'command' field's events can be set up to escape spaces whenever its contents change, and since the args will go in a separate field, there is no confusion over which spaces need escaping--every space in the 'command' field will. [Bug 57398] Re: [Bug 57398] Re: Doesn't load external subtitles
With totem-gstreamer they work most of the time but often I get an "Internal data flow error" (screenshot attached). When that error appears if I just click ok and then click on the play button, it works and the subtitles show up fine. That error only appears with movies that have subtitles. With totem-xine the subtitles do not appear at all, but I also do not get that error ever. This bug happens with any .srt file. I've attached part of one file here. All you need to do is rename the file to the same name as the .avi file that you are playing and put them in the same directory. Then the subs should appear at the time intervals specified in the .srt file. So for the attached file test.srt, just put it inside a directory with a movie called test.avi or test.mpg and the subtitles should appear. -- Doesn't load external subtitles https://launchpad.net/bugs/57398 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 57435] Re: [Edgy Eft]Manual partitioning not possible at installation
I'm using the "Alternative install" CD for Kubuntu, Edgy Eft, Knot 2. I have two 120GB drives (PATA, Seagate), and I'm trying to set up software RAID1 across them. I have an Athlon 2800+ with a KT400 chipset. Here are the steps I follow: 1) [All of the setup prior to the partitioner starting.] [The partitioner always spends about a minute at 38% doing no CD or disk access.] 2) Manually edit partition table 3) Select the first drive 4) Create new empty partition table 5) Select second drive 6) Create new empty partition table 7) Select FREE SPACE on first drive 8) Create new partition [119.0 GB, Primary, Beginning] 9) Use as: physical volume for RAID 10) Bootable flag: on 11) Done setting up the partition 12) Select remaining free space on first drive 13) [Set it up as swap] 14) [Repeat (7) to (13) for second drive] 15) Configure software RAID 16) [Write partition changes to disk and format swap partitions] 17) Create MD device 18) RAID1 At this point, I get an error that says, "No RAID partitions available", because no unused "Linux RAID Autodetect" are available. Well, I did set up the partition as "physical RAID volumes," but no mention was made anywhere about "RAID Autodetect." Also, these disks are brand new and clean. I manually wiped the disks (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda, same for /dev/hdc) before starting this install, so the partitioner bug that looks for existing stuff on the partition is not being triggered here. 19) Select Continue 20) 2 active devices, 0 spares At this point, the partitioner hangs up completely. Since I'm using the text installer, all I see on the screen is a bit of flicker of the cursor in the lower left. Also, the hard disk activity light is on, but there is no disk activity, so I don't know what the partitioner is doing to my brand new drives. The partitioner for Dapper worked just fine. Until this bug is fixed, can the developers put the Dapper version of the partitioner into Edgy? I think this bug should be marked "critical." I was planning to install Edgy Eft and use it as my main OS (tolerating some crashes and data loss), just so I could contribute to the bug database. But since I cannot even install the OS, I have to drop back to Dapper. The FIRST thing that needs to be debugged is the installer, and all other work should stop until the installer is perfect. That's my opinion anyhow. -- [Edgy Eft]Manual partitioning not possible at installation https://launchpad.net/bugs/57435 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58794] Re: doesn't deal with init scripts that require user input
It's not so much that upstart "doesn't deal" with init scripts that require user input, the daemon itself is perfectly capable of providing jobs with a console if they need it. You just have to put "console output" in the job description file. However by policy for edgy (due to the boot-message-logging spec) we're not expecting to provide output for most init scripts. cryptsetup already has a method of dealing with usplash, as it has to get that out of the way, so it does not seem unreasonable that it also should have a method of dealing with upstart Given we are talking about filesystems here, and the filesystem-handling init scripts are due to be changed into upstart jobs, perhaps cryptsetup should get the same treatment ** Changed in: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged => Medium Assignee: (unassigned) => Scott James Remnant Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- doesn't deal with init scripts that require user input https://launchpad.net/bugs/58794 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For example, my left-most is "PCM", which does very little. I have to set kmix to my "Front" mixer, which is equivalent to master. [Bug 57860] Re: Intel RAID controller doesn't work
Followup: Presently there is no out of the box support for BIOS enabled software RAID such as the many that come with NVidia, Intel or Highpoint Chipsets. This can be a turn-off for power users wishing to dual-boot WindowsXP and Ubuntu. Dual booting is easily performed, and the team has done an incredible job on a variety of systems, still I feel this area is severely lacking. In order to even get Ubuntu to see the drive you have to install DMRaid, which is in the universe of repositories, once you enable it. Subsequently with installing ntfs-tools I was able to successfully resize the partition using a combination of ntfs-resize & fdisk. [Bug 58744] Re: Firefox crash when viewing a page with a flash movie
status rejected done Thank you for your report that Ubuntu's firefox crashes for you under some circumstances. The vast majority of firefox crashes are caused by buggy plugins - notably, the Macromedia Flash player. These crashes cannot be solved by the Ubuntu team because Flash is not Free Software: Macromedia do not allow us to read and understand the source code for their Flash player, nor to redistribute modified versions if we should somehow be able to fix bugs anyway. If you prefer to have a stable web browser, we recommend that you do not install Flash, or other plugins that are not Free. If your firefox has no plugins, extensions, themes or other non-Ubuntu software installed and still crashes repeatably with a fresh profile in the most recent version from Ubuntu's development release, then we are very interested and would greatly appreciate it if you would reopen this bug report. _Do_ say that you have a vanilla Firefox, quoting the version number, and that you have tried moving your profile aside, and describe in detail how to reproduce the problem. Alternatively, you might like to consider using Ubuntu's online support request system instead of filing a bug report. The Ubuntu community can help to try to solve your problem and clarify any bugs which may exist in the Ubuntu software. [Bug 58749] Re: migrating from suse 10.1
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 47046 *** Thanks for your report. At present, you must reformat system partitions (e.g. /, /boot, /usr, or /var) during installation; the fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this is also bug 47046, and is fixed in dapper-updates. If you are upgrading an existing installation, then please see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperUpgrades rather than using this installer. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 47046 breaks if system partitions are not reformatted -- migrating from suse 10.1 https://launchpad.net/bugs/58749 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, same as bug #533996 which is fixed in edgy. I'll leave this open as a reminder to get the fix backported to dapper. [Bug 57996] Re: Mixer applet shows different icon in bottom panel than in top panel
The problems is because of the panel size. The panel size you can set in the GUI is 25 minimum but when you set it manually in gconf-editor to 24 all icons are the right size. I say all icons because the icon of my contact-applet suddenly changed to a bigger version, as did the terminal icon. I suggest to either fix the code that selects the different icon sizes or to make it possible to choose a panel size of 24px again. -- Mixer applet shows different icon in bottom panel than in top panel https://launchpad.net/bugs/57996 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
