[Bug 60986] [Edgy] OpenOffice.org crashes everytime I try to save
Public bug reported: I've been trying to save a document of just plain text, and everytime I go to save, the save document dialog pops up, but so does the Recover File dialog. I filed in the save document fields, but the document never saves. Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'openoffice'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] OpenOffice.org crashes everytime I try to save https://launchpad.net/bugs/60986 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 55539] Re: SD photo card no longer automounts
After switching to the 2.6.17-7 kernel, the card has stopped automounting again, but otherwise works fine. I think this is because this kernel uses the tifm21 driver, instead of the sdhci driver, which makes udev not recognize the card. [Bug 60424] Re: GTK default icons used in several places
Hang on, the premise is wrong here. The HIGs can be a bit confusing in some places, but nowhere do they say that "OK" and "Cancel" should be abolished! It's true that "OK" should be replaced by more informative text, if possible, in dialogs and in confirmation alerts. But "OK" *must* be the text of the main button in an error alert or an information alert, "Cancel" *should* be the text of the second button in a dialog or a confirmation alert, and "Cancel" *should* be the text of the button in a progress window whenever the operation can be properly cancelled. Personally I think none of these buttons should ever have icons, but as long as they have any icon, the icon should look nice. I'm all in favor of using ugliness during development to encourage developers to follow a policy -- but first, make sure the policy actually exists. :-) -- GTK default icons used in several places https://launchpad.net/bugs/60424 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 60808] Re: mail-notification uninstallable in Edgy
I may depend when you installed your system. If you installed your system with a CD created before this change (which was two weeks ago) you got the packages with the old name (as they were current then). [Bug 38219] Re: Gnome freezes after log in
My apologies for not responding before. Being new to Linux, I am kinda afraid I might be just saying something stupid and wasting your time. Anyway, I found out the problem is related to my MSI-K8TM mobo (Via- based chipset). As I understand there will be a Quirk-MSI-K8T kernelpatch for Dapper to solve the problem. However, I still wonder: if it is a mere sound problem, how come the problem only occurs when trying to run #init 2 (the default Ubuntu- runlevel)? Whereas running runlevels 3-5 (which all use the same initscripts, but other than runlevel_2's) give no (sound)problem. Comparing /etc/rc*.d, I notice rc2.d contains powernowd.early and stop- readahead scripts, while the other rc's lack them. And as I wrote before, #init 2 makes my machine totally irresponsive after login while the sound hangs (no keys-combinations work), so i have to push the reboot-button. The same actually happened when I tried to install Ubuntu with the Live-CD. With Knoppix on the other hand I've never had any problem to start. Is it correct that powernowd.early is a specifical Ubuntu initscript? I'm only wildguessing here, but could my machine have issue with powernowd.early? At the moment I'm trying Edgy Eft Knot3_amd64 on an other partition. I've no problem starting runlevel 2. Is it due to the Quirk-MSI kernelpatch? Or is it something else that fixes the problem (e.g. Upstart...)? I don't know. The following is what I get from #dmesg ...snip [ 18.799654] PCI: Probing PCI hardware (bus 00) [ 18.801904] PCI: Ignoring BAR0-3 of IDE controller :00:0f.1 [ 18.802176] PCI: Quirk-MSI-K8T Soundcard On [ 18.802178] PCI: Unexpected Value in PCI-Register: no Change! snip... ** Description changed: Using multiple machines that have both Windows and Ubuntu installed, whenever I am working in Ubuntu, webpages take much longer to load. On average it takes about 7-10 seconds just to load google (when cache is cleared), some pages simply time out. This is the case with all of my Ubuntu installs, and when I boot them into Windows the connection is perfectly fast. I've tried setting the ethernet cards to half/full duplex and changing the router configuration, but to no avail; I have also tried various browsers. This problem seemed to occur starting in Dapper and is now also an issue in Edgy. My connection is 9Mb/s down, so I highly doubt it's the connection (especially since it works fine in Windows). Typically, I will enter a URL and the page will attempt to load for about 10 seconds, then most of the page will appear, with some - content (pictures, etc) continuing to load. + content (pictures, etc) continuing to load. This slow connection speed + is also preventing me from installing Ubuntu on client machines for + obvious reasons. -- Network connection is slow on ubuntu machines https://launchpad.net/bugs/60977 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60979] Openoffice on Ubuntu x86 crashes when tables clicked
Public bug reported: May be similar to bug #39907. In OpenOffice Base, simply clicking on "tables" in a newly created database is causing it to crash on my box. If Oo is started on a command line, I get the following error: *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0xb6244678 *** This is on Dapper 6.06 LTS using openoffice.org 2.0.2-2ubuntu12.1, vanilla gnome and xorg. To reproduce (100% here): * Click on OpenOffice Base, and go through the database wizard. * Select Create new Database * Leaving defaults click next, then finish. * Give the database a filename (not changing the format from the default odb). * You will now be on the forms tab. Click on the tables tab. * OpenOffice will now hang, and will need to be physically killed. I mean all of it, including any other components you had open, and the quickstarter. I also tried to reproduce this on Edgy, with openoffice.org 2.0.3-4ubuntu2, but openoffice.org crashed as soon as I clicked finish (the third step in this). It did offer to save my document though. (though not strictly necessary as glom is the only application dependent on libglom, but a good policy should the library be used by others in the future.) but more importantly (pragmatically) imho is for glom to have a versioned dependency on libglom. thank you for your packaging of glom! ** Affects: glom (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- glom versioned dependency on libglom https://launchpad.net/bugs/60969 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome The means by which a user can change their account password under GNOME are not obvious. Presently there are two ways by which a user may reach a password-change action from the GNOME menu. These are System -> Preferences -> About Me, and System -> Administration -> Users and Groups. The latter requires root privileges and so is not optimal (root privileges aren't needed for this operation.) The first does not present itself as a 'change password' operation, and is easily overlooked, as it was by myself. ;-) Common sense suggests there should be a prominent 'Change Password' option, perhaps on the top-level System menu above 'Quit,' or otherwise elsewhere. ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Method of changing password non-obvious https://launchpad.net/bugs/60967 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 33235] Re: Missing directory /var/run/firebird2
The above solution is for firebird2-super-server started as a daemon by /etc/init.d/firebird2 . It is not suitable for firebird2-classic-server which is started by xinetd service for gds_db. -- Missing directory /var/run/firebird2 https://launchpad.net/bugs/33235 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 60957] New workspaces should be called Desk X instead of Workspace X
Public bug reported: On a fresh Edgy install, the default workspaces are called Desk 1 and Desk 2, however when you add more of them, they're named in the old fashion - Workspace 3, Workspace 4, etc. It should be changed to ensure the consistency of naming conventions. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs -- New workspaces should be called Desk X instead of Workspace X https://launchpad.net/bugs/60957 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
