[Bug 55444] Re: Freeze live CD in dell dimension 2400

2006-09-20 Thread Matthew Poer
I can verify that the system hangs terribly in this situation. I do not
know the cause, nor did I attempt to change to a differant tty.

I can tell you, however, that Kubuntu does not have this problem in the
least. I am operaing a Dell Dimension 2400 right now running Kubuntu
Live, and everything is running excitingly smoothly. I have a full
resolution and will be clicking the 'Install' icon in a few minutes.

[Bug 59513] Re: Rhythmbox freezes a lot

2006-09-20 Thread Martin Jürgens
It seems that I run into the same issue. When I open Rhythmbox and play
some music, it sometimes happens that I can listen to the music but that
I cannot use Rhythmbox anymore (I minimize it to the tray, maximizing
does not work then anymore). When the current song ends, a new song does
not follow (but it does normally). Rhythmbox causes a cpu usage of 95%
then.

Neil, is this the same issue that appears for you or do I have to create
a seperate report?

I noted that there is a grey piece on the screen that which seems to be
part of the Rhythmbox current song notification. I cannot right or left
click on it. When I kill Rhythmbox, it disappears.

I am going to attach a screenshot.

[Bug 61306] Re: performance issue in Edgy with i810 driver

2006-09-20 Thread hesser
I am still at a loss. I monitored the cpu utilization On dapper vs edgy when
using glxgears. I have a Centrino Duo 2300. When running dapper live cd, the
cpu (only one is detected by default) goes to 100% as I would suspect it.
When running edgy, the cpus (it detects both by default), are running uneven,
one cpu runs at about 2-4%, the other around 60% when running glxgears.

Fair enough.

I have just tested banshee 0.11.0 using the edgy debs.

Below is my output as I used the program. I have noticed that it no
longer writes to the console when it uses musicbrainz... but i know it
was using it because some song metadata was automatically updated.

My ipod works perfectly now with it - so i am happy :)

[Bug 57626] Re: [Bug 57626] Re: Network Monitor Icons look stretched out on 1280x768 resolution

2006-09-20 Thread Darren Hinderer
I don't know how to get the wireless icon up there if you don't have a
wireless card, but I think this is definitely an artwork related bug. I
found the problem icons and for each one when I right clicked them nautilus
could not read the image size information. It should read them as 24x24.

Here is where I found the icons:

/usr/share/icons/Human/24x24/status/network*png

/usr/share/icons/Human/24x24/apps/gnome-netstatus*png

If the panel can't read the size information from the image like nautilus
can't, you would imagine it would default to some big size like it's doing
now.

[Bug 42115] Re: Clicking on date in calendar applet open previous date in Evolution

2006-09-20 Thread Alvin Thompson
this still doesn't work for edgy and upstream (evolution) is apparently
not going to fix this. since this is a very visible and annoying bug in
ubuntu, and since the fix (above) is very simple and has no chance of
breaking anything, i'm sure matt will allow it. i know you guys don't
like deltas, but i would bet that the patch would promptly be accepted
upstream (in gnome-panel). this is especially true because most other
distributions maintain their own version of this fix.

[Bug 61456] Can no longer read DVDs on Dapper!

2006-09-20 Thread chombee
Public bug reported:

I just updated a friends Dapper laptop, getting the latest packages, in
an attempt to fix a problem where DVD movies had saturated colours.
After the update, the laptop no longer reads DVDs! Which is pretty bad.

DVDs are not automounted when you insert them, and if I go to Computer
and click on the CD/DVD drive and click mount, or if I use the mount
command, it reports: No medium found.

I have tried this with a DVD movie which was working fine a couple of
days ago, before todays update.

CDs are still fine - they automount and work as normal.

Here is a section of dmesg output:

[17179575.064000] hdc: ATAPI 24X DVD-ROM CD-R/RW drive,2048kB Cache,UDMA(33)
[17179575.064000] Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 510m.

The laptop had not been updated for a couple of months. Here is a log
from synaptic of the update which appears to have introduced the
problem:

[Bug 59727] Re: Ubuntu-minimal for Edgy now includes X

2006-09-20 Thread Adam Conrad
x11-common is hardly depending on X, it contains no xserver, no
drivers, it's just some common files. It's installed size is 580k.

If the complaint is just that the package has x11 in the name, I could
always rename it to not have people complain about not wanting X on
their servers. :)

[Bug 17297] Re: Orphan Search

2006-09-20 Thread John Moser
A further look (deborphan -a) shows a ton of packages I installed myself
as well, which I may want to remove. Games I no longer play, -dev
packages, the fish shell.. things I have to clean up by hand, taking a
lot of copy/paste in the shell.

Amusingly, users do want to mass-remove packages they installed once in
a while. At least I do.

[Bug 60940] Re: edgy live cd fails to boot on old machine

2006-09-20 Thread ThunderM
i don't belive that to be a reason not to boot at all. If i am not
mistaken the live cd also may use a swap partition if it finds one. And
that sistem has one of about 760 MB .And besides.. one of the other
systems i tried edgy live on had 128 MB and it worked ;) so... i don't
think that's the issue.

[Bug 57231] Re: [Bug 57231] Re: Gedit keep asking for password though keyring holds it

2006-09-20 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I'm using the latest (stable) version of Ubuntu Dapper Drake. I just
tried to open a file on a remote FTP (which I accessed by entering my
keyring password (as I had saved the original password in the keyring)
and Gedit popups and asks for the password (why does it? I have
allready accesed it through the keyring (I hope you understand my
english). Also I tried to enter the real password instead of the
password for my keyring but that doesnt help anything for the
authentication required-dialog just reappears after each attempt to
connect.

I have also at the same time done a backtrace but that doesn't seem to
help (but I don't know for sure) but I paste it here anyway.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

[Bug 57548] Re: Shut Down and Restart buttons gone--hibernate instead

2006-09-20 Thread maco
The gdm.conf is attached, and here's the contents of gdm.conf-custom
(because it's shorter and I can only attach one)

# GDM Configuration Customization file.
#
# This file is the appropriate place for specifying your customizations to the
# GDM configuration. If you run gdmsetup, it will automatically edit this
# file for you and will cause the daemon and any running GDM GUI programs to
# automatically update with the new configuration. Not all configuration
# options are supported by gdmsetup, so to modify some values it may be
# necessary to modify this file directly by hand.
#
# To hand-edit this file, simply add or modify the key=value combination in
# the appropriate section in the template below. Refer to the comments in the
# gdm.conf file for information about each option. Also refer to the reference
# documentation.
#
# If you hand edit a GDM configuration file, you should run the following
# command to get the GDM daemon to notice the change. Any running GDM GUI
# programs will also be notified to update with the new configuration.
#
# gdmflexiserver --command=UPDATE_CONFIG configuration key
#
# For example, the Enable key in the [debug] section would be specified by
# debug/Enable.
#
# You can also run gdm-restart or gdm-safe-restart to cause GDM to restart and
# re-read the new configuration settings. You can also restart GDM by sending
# a HUP or USR1 signal to the daemon. HUP behaves like gdm-restart and causes
# any user session started by GDM to exit immediately while USR1 behaves like
# gdm-safe-restart and will wait until all users log out before restarting GDM.
#
# For full reference documentation see the gnome help browser under
# GNOME|System category. You can also find the docs in HTML form on

[Bug 60634] Re: Please sync ivtv from debian unstable.

2006-09-20 Thread mlind
Ubuntu package has no changes. Builds cleanly on Edgy pbuilder.
Thanks.

Debian changelog:

ivtv (0.7.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

   [ Ian Campbell ]
   * Remove /lib/modules/*/*.modules which are sometimes created during the
module build. These are unecessary since they are created by depmod at
 install time. (Closes: 385454)

   [ Mark Purcell ]
   * broken tar command in debian/rules (Closes: #387162)

 -- Mark Purcell [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue, 12 Sep 2006 21:24:31 +0100

ivtv (0.7.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * Remove postinst.modules.in since dh_installmodules already adds
the required depmod calls and there is nothing else left.
 (Closes: #381752)
   * Patch 50_non-i386-portability has been merged upstream.
   * Update debian/watch for 0.7.

[Bug 58476] Re: init script fails

2006-09-20 Thread Julian Zeidler
Tried the same on an Ubuntu 6.06 Server.
Commenting doesn't solve the problem. Init still won't start.
Error is:
Starting MLDonkey: mlnet file[s] not owned by user 1007 or group 1007:
/var/run -- reown it first

Creating a new file also hangs Gnucash. Applying the patch from
http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/changeset/14761?format=diff to the previous
version removed the bug for me.
