[Bug 62299] kaffeine interferes with sticky keys

2006-09-25 Thread seguso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kaffeine

Edgy, Gnome.

Enable sticky keys (a keyboard accessibility feature). Watch a movie
with kaffeine. After a few seconds, your shift key becomes "locked".
This causes unexpected behavior where the keyboard and mouse seems to
react strangely without apparent reason (until you realize that the
shift key is locked).

I guess the reason for the bug is the following: in order to prevent the
screensaver from starting, kaffeine simulates the repeated press of the
shift key. But, with sticky keys, pressing the shift key twice locks the
shift key.

Kaffeine should therefore use another technique to disable the
screensaver. The current techique interferes with sticky keys.

[Bug 62296] Button go in location bar souldn't expand

2006-09-25 Thread Germán Poo-Caamaño
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 60643 ***

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

The location bar in firefox (with gnome support) using Ubuntu Edgy is
too narrow. Even when you 'clean' the toolbar deleting other icons or
choosing small icons or choosing only icons.

When more space is available in the toolbar, the button "Go" (located in
the right side of the location entry) is expanded but no the location
entry as I would expect.

Evenmore, the button 'Go' doesn't respect the fact that I choose show
only icons.

I'll attach an screenshot of the problem.

I tested it with 2 different themes.

I think as of the most recent release(s) everything is working fine wrt
to choosing whether dist-upgrade is needed or not.

It's still annoying that through the dist-upgrade path I cannot see the
package summaries/changes the way I can through the upgrade path. It
seems to me that those two UIs should be the same. There is really, to
the user, nothing different about those processes.

[Bug 37216] Re: networking and lvm mounts

2006-09-25 Thread ADORJÁNI Gábor
Same problem here, thanks wiz for the tips.

After a basic install I put /var onto a logical volume. Everything's
okay, reboot and I just stared stupidly why dnscache went crazy saying
there's no loopback interface to bind to. :o

IMHO it was quite a bad idea to mount a tmpfs on /var/run before any
filesystem comes up, assuming the whole /var structure is residing on
root. Since it's quite common on servers to put everything possible onto
separate partitions/LVs, it should be expected that /var is one them.
>From a security standpoint I don't want the possibilty that logs fill up
my root FS.

Oh, BTW and it's on a Kubuntu 6.06LTS install on a dual AMD Opteron box,
amd64 architecture.

[Bug 56336] Re: When downloading a new file from two clients, file gets corrupted

2006-09-25 Thread Hervé Fache
Pre-condition: apt-cacher is running on 'england'
- run apt-get dist-upgrade on 'england' (running dapper)
- run apt-get dist-upgrade on 'sicilia' (also running dapper)
-> when trying to download the same file at almost exactly the same time, the
file gets corrupted in apt-cacher's database
Post-condition: the package is broken and apt-get cannot retrieve anything else
than the broken package

[Bug 62292] Mismatched db being locked and dpkg having been interrupted

2006-09-25 Thread Hervé Fache
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept-updater

Adept updater tells me another process is using the database. This is what
apt-get update tells me:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct
the problem.

Not only did the updater lie to me, but it seems it could have taken the
steps to try and correct the problem: dpkg --configure -a !!!

adept_manager has a different error message, but is also missing the
point (same library?).

Also: same problem when apt-get -f install needs to be run. There should
be something to help the user sort out problems!!!

[Bug 62290] Edgy: Update manager problem might confuse users

2006-09-25 Thread Arne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I just upgraded my edgy and the update-manager told me that it is
necessary to do a dist-upgrade. I confirmed and after I answered some
questions I got some errors (apt was locked). This was because I
configured my update-manager to download the packages directly in the
background. After I confirmed the dist-upgrade apt startet downloading
the packages what caused the error. It is not a big problem but it could
confuse some users.

This is fixed in the current edgy.

Proxy settings in gnome-preferences will be picked up via gnome-

update-manager/dist-upgrader.

2006-09-25 Thread Soren Hansen

I remember looking at this a while back. It's a HAL issue. My guess is
it's a race condition where HAL does its wifi-detection magic before the
driver has initalized properly and hence assumes it's wired. I'm
working on fixing it.

It is i386, with dapper packages (The version of OO is 2.0.2). My home
directory is mounted on NFS, and that is where I am trying to save. I
can replicate the bug on other systems which are using my NFS mounted
home directory, but I cannot when saving locally to any machine. I have
just discovered that I can save to local disks without problem on any
machine, including the one where I first saw the bug.

[Bug 48034] Re: kmail crashes on startup

2006-09-25 Thread eocanha
(sorry for so much continuing...)

I've discovered a crash scenario:

I had the "Folder --> Discussion thread" option activated. I deleted
(SHIFT+DEL) a message that was the first in its thread and had one more
behind it, and that crashed KMail. I restarted the program, repeated the
action and confirmed the crashing.

The next time I restarted KMail, I found the discussion thread option
disabled ¿?, but that thread in particular still showed the tree branch
lines. I activated the option and branch lines and unfolding "+" icons
for more other threads appeared. I disabled the option (all lines and
icons disappeared, ok) and deleted the message. There was no crash at
all.

Maybe there is some bug in the tree widget, or in the data structure
containing the threads. I hope this report can help.
