[Bug 19482] Re: speexenc segfaults on amd64

2006-10-04 Thread jmspeex
Based on what I see at http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/edgy/source/speex
it seems like Edgy is not affected by the bug (which was fixed in
1.1.12). Now will someone finally apply the 4-line fix (above) to
Dapper... or does LTS just stand for "Long Time to get Support"?

The behavior described in this bug report still exists.

It's somewhat intentional... Gaim changes your privacy setting on your
behalf so that invisibility works correctly. This will DEFINITELY be
fixed for Gaim 3.0.0. I can't say whether it'll be fixed before then.

When I first installed edgy, I noticed that the boot process seemed to

[Bug 64123] Superblock last write time is in the future

2006-10-04 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

I'm running the latest kernel for 6.10 (I'm posting from windows and
forgot to check the exact kernel version)

My system will not always start, here is one of the bugs I'm reporting
in that context. System details are here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HP_Pavilion_DV8220EA

During (attempted) bootup in recovery mode I got:

*checking root file system...
fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006)
base: Superblock last write time is in the future. FIXED.

What was that and why did it happen? I have been told that using UTC
instead of local time can give problems if I have windows installed on
the same PC. But I installed Ubuntu after Windows - so Ubuntu knew that
I had windows installed (it was 'found' before writting grub.lst) - so I
assume time is set to local. I'm not sure how to check any of this
though.

So, thanks to pointing me to the sysylog, it's how you said...in fact the

daemon quits.
But why dpkg-reconfigure is able to find the correct device and restarting the
daemon don't find it ?

Anyway, it was my bad, so i apologize for that, but the configuration
tool that used to be in the package before could/ should avoid problems
like that, it was really much easier to configure lirc (i'm not the only

[Bug 64121] Edgy & Dapper: Lower Resolution on one account interferes with another

2006-10-04 Thread William Hood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

If a second account is created and set to use a lower screen resolution
than the first account, logging into the first account will work, but
the screen will "scroll" when the mouse is moved to the edge of the
screen. I have seen this happen in Dapper with a 3DFX VooDoo 3 3000 and
in Edgy with an NVidia Geforce2 MX (on otherwise the exact same
machine). The work around is to reboot after logging in to the lower
resolution account.

To reproduce:
1. Start with a fresh install of Edgy or Dapper (in my case with the original
default resolution being 1280 x 1024).
2. Create a second account. (In my case, this account has identical group
membership to the first. The first account's primary group is "bill". I made
the second account also have the primary group "bill" rather than its own group.
3. Reboot and log into the new account.
4. From the Gnome menu select System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution
5. In the Screen Resolution Preferences dialog, set the resolution to 1024x768
(note that while attempting to set up this account, I originally had it set to
640x480 for a day or so).
6. Check the box "Make default for this computer".
7. Log out. (Uncertain if it might be necessary to reboot.)
8. Log back into the first account.
9. Move the mouse cursor all the way to one of the sides. The screen would
scroll (probably as it might if on a virtual resolution of 1280x1024 but an
actual screen res of 1024x768).

Note: In my case the account was created on Dapper with the 3dfx card.
I upgraded to edgy, switched to the nvidia card, and the bug was still
present.

[Bug 64119] add/remove ati binary package

2006-10-04 Thread Jetix
Public bug reported:

Installing the xorg ati binary package from add/remove in edgy slows down the
system and producces system crashes when running X games.
For example: I installed Ubuntu Edgy made updates and all was fine even with
fglrx.
I then fixed my monitor settings by modifying the xorg.conf with the corect
settings for my monitor (Ivory max res 1280x1024 unknow in any os :P) for
beeing able to modify my refresh rate up to 85Hz. Then I thought of installing
the add/remove ati binary package, witch I did, but I then started having
problems :(. The X started moving sllightly slower. I thought perhaps my system
configuration but the big surprise camed when I've started to get system
crashes on oppening games (that didn't happend before - to be exact total
system freez). I've unistalled the package and all is back to normal again. A
friend told me that it's the same with the nvidia binary.
My system configuration:
AMD XP 2400+, 1G DDR, ATI 9200SE ATLANTIS, 200 +80 HDD - WD

Any way congratulations for the new release It's the best one yet, and
please excuse my bad english. keep up the good work and hope this post

[Bug 37169] Re: Maxima hangs on ppc Dapper

2006-10-04 Thread Jordan Mantha
Marco,
We have had some recent maxima fixes in Edgy, but we have to track things
down and be very careful with dapper. As you say, we need to keep this LTS. We
are looking to fix these issues for sure, but we need to carefully test fixes
before we put then in the dapper-updates repo. If we can isolate a fix in edgy
then we can backport the fix in dapper. We need ppc users to test the edgy
packages to narrow down a fix.

Patch Date: Thu Sep 28 22:27:52 2006 UTC

The problem is the choice between installing a CVS version of xine or
waiting for the next release. It's not my decision of what gets in or
not, but if this update doesn't bring any new bugs with it, it would
certainly benefit those trying to play *.shn files!

[Bug 32045] Re: suggestion: add an status bar or some kind of tooltip help

2006-10-04 Thread Andrew Ash
The two places to deal with keyboards issue has been resolved, I
believe, in Edgy Beta. "Keyboard Shortcuts" are now under "Keyboard &
Mouse", and "Keyboard Layout" is under "Regional & Language." Changing
keyboard shortcuts is now under the keyboard icon, as I expected in
earlier versions of SystemSettings. There is also a general/advanced
division of the icons which may clear up confusion by keeping advanced
system management from the default view.

Do you feel there is still use for tooltips? There are icons and a
brief description already. What new information could be added in the
tooltip that wouldn't be in either of these descriptions of what each
section is for?

Found this on the Ubuntu Forums:

Had the same problem and permanently got rid of it
by adding the following $HOME/.Xsession file:

[Bug 25059] Re: Non-standard button order

2006-10-04 Thread Andrew Ash
Attached is a screenshot of SystemSettings and KControlCenter displaying
the same Background control panel. As you can see in the bottom-right
corner, the button order is switched.

For consistency, I think the SystemSettings should change to act like
KControlCenter because it's more standard for KDE. How difficult is
this switch?

[Bug 64114] Edgy Beta 1 breaks X on Neomagic chipset

2006-10-04 Thread Mitch Golden
Public bug reported:

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-XG19. This is rather old machine with a neomagic
chipset. I have no problem running Dapper on it. I did the following:

*) Start from a virgin machine.
*) Install Dapper, don't run any upgrades.
*) Edit the /etc/apt/sources.list, change all dapper -> edgy
*) Using Synaptic, select all upgradable, then apply.
*) Wait 2 hours while it does its thing.
*) Reboot.

The machine starts up. During the boot, the screen colors look wrong -
perhaps it is in 16 color mode.

X fails to start up. On screen 1 I see a box that asks me if I want to
see the X log file, but it times out almost instantly and just gives a
login prompt.

I have attached xorg.conf and Xorg.log.0 below. I don't see anything
wrong with either one.
