[Bug 65489] Re: gnome-terminal tends to lock up
As the discussion and tests in bug #66104 shows, what Wenzhuo experienced is a probably a well known (at least among input method people) bug. This bug usually shows up when user uses XIM (therefore using other GTK or Qt IM module seems to make this bug disappear), and is not restricted in GNOME. The discussions on SCIM mailing list and Redhat bugzilla suggest it is a bug in Xorg. I've given a workaround in bug #66104, but only apply to SCIM users. This problem is more visible in Ubuntu than in Debian because Ubuntu's scim package set the /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic configuration to false by default to get better support for deadkeys. Both upstream tarball and Debian package set this to true by default, and this bug won't show up in the default configuration. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #201284 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201284 ** Also affects: Fedora via https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201284 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- gnome-terminal tends to lock up https://launchpad.net/bugs/65489 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Well, the only way I was able to find resolution on this problem was to do the following: 1. Found the script that was throwing the errors. In my case it was the following lines: -- snip -- # Commented out by jmg on 10/6/06 to get vmplayer out of half-installed state # vmware_exec 'Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet'"$vHubNr" \ # vmware_start_bridge "$vHubNr" "$interface" exitcode=$(($exitcode + $?)) elif [ -n "$hostaddr" -a -n "$netmask" ]; then vmware_create_vmnet "$vHubNr" vmware_bg_exec 'Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet'"$vHubNr" \ vmware_start_hostonly "$vHubNr" 'vmnet'"$vHubNr" \ "$hostaddr" "$netmask" 'yes' exitcode=$(($exitcode + $?)) eval 'nat="$vmdb_answer_VNET_'"$vHubNr"'_NAT"' if [ "$nat" = 'yes' ]; then # Commented out by jmg on 10/6/06 to get vmplayer out of half-installed state # vmware_exec 'NAT service on /dev/vmnet'"$vHubNr" \ # vmware_start_nat "$vHubNr" exitcode=$(($exitcode + $?)) -- snip -- 3. Ran the following command: dpkg --configure -a The script ran clean and the package was now listed as cleanly installed. 4. Backed up the edited file and clobbered with the original. Exactly the situation I know the workaround for. :-) What you really need to do is only change the /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic option in your ~/.scim/config to true. However it's a little tricky as scim always rewrite its configuration files on exit. So I give the following complicated procedure for the workaround: 1. Set scim not to start automatically: run "im-switch -s none". Log out and re-login. 2. Edit your ~/.scim/config configuration file, change the /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic option to true. 3. Reset scim to start automatically: run "im-switch -s scim-pinyin". Log out and re-login. Now there shouldn't be keyboard input lock-up anymore. However this breaks deadkeys used in a lot of European keyboard layout. Although if you only need to input Chinese and English, deadkeys should not be a concern to you. Please report back whether this workaround works for you or not. Thanks. If I recall correctly Alan Cox > submitted a few Rio 500 patches for the kernel a while back that may > have improved support for the device. Short answer; Dapper is missing the required package (rio500) to connect to the rio so there is no way to create the device apart from by hand Longer answer; I just performed a fresh install of Dapper 6.06.1. The rio500 kernel module exists and a manual modprobe appears to work. But I can't find the rio500 package to actually test device connections. I've added the unofficial repositories just in case but it isn't showing up there either. I checked http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/cgi- bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=rio500&searchon=names&subword=1&version=dapper&release=all but it looks like it isn't available under Dapper (or Edgy). It was under Breezy (which worked much better than Hoary, "dpkg-reconfigure rio500: worked in Breezy, it just didn't survive a reboot). I'll try and pull down source; either the deb source (librio500-dev) from breezy or http://sourceforge.net/projects/rio500 and see if I can do anything with that. [Bug 62537] Re: Font rendering glitches with radeon, known bug, patch exists
After last updates of fontconfig, OOo and Xorg the issue is less obvious, retreats a little bit but it's still present. [Bug 66670] No mouse at boot work 99 percent of the time after that....
Public bug reported: In the morning, every morning, I have to unplug and plugin my mouse at after my first boot in the day. After that... if I ever do a warm boot, It works fine... If I try to test it and do a cold boot durring the day after having run the system in the morning, it still works. Infact, I have killed the power to the entire house... and then booted after 30 minutes of no power, and it still bootted with mouse support. Talk abot a weird one. But every once in a while on a cold reboot, I have to replugin the mouse. My wafe that also uses the computer has never ever seen the issue. I boot the computer first in the morning every morning. So there is some different between booting durring the day after my first boot, and the next day. Could it really have to do with the calander working past midnight?
