[Bug 65027] Re: Notebooks freezes after closing lid or pressing some FN key combination

2006-10-25 Thread Mikael Gerdin
I have noticed the exact same problem on my M1210, both with Ubuntu
Edgy, and Gentoo, but it only affects the am64-architecture, if i run it
in 32-bit arch then the problem is gone, so I'm guessing this is has to
be fixed in kernel-level acpi drivers.

When im looking at my partitions using disks-admin one of my free spaces
have the size of 17592186044416,00 GiB, which is about 78 times the

Upstream would be glad to accept a patch but this opens two separate
issues: one is that volume options should appear on the disc too,

[Bug 54776] Re: [Edgy] font hinting does not work with libfreetype6 v. 2.2.1

2006-10-25 Thread Xavier
On debian, the workaround of enabling subpixel rendering in ~/.fonts.conf
didn't work, maybe because it doesn't apply the patches from fedora cvs pasted
above. (It's maybe better that way, because it didn't make any sense).
As Bernd Schubert said in the bug report, light hinting (=slow=medium) is
hardcoded in openoffice.
Hardcoding normal hinting (=full) works fine.

I installed his packages from there:
http://www.pci.uni-heidelberg.de/tc/usr/bernd/downloads/openoffice/
I'm nearly sure he just applied his patch from there:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi/normal_hinting.patch?bug=385798;msg=69;att=1
Though, a confirmation is required.
Anyway, his packages result in nice fonts for me, both with or without
antialiasing.

That said, having font settings hardcoded isn't acceptable, because
users have very different font preferences.

Two things:

  * It's very common to have flashplugin-nonfree package installed or

this bug should be, at least, medium.

  * Since there is fix that affects to firefox, it shouldn't be changed

[Bug 63798] Re: [edgy] firefox crashes with X error

2006-10-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen
nope, sorry.. there are free alternatives but AFAIK they are not any
better when it comes to stability.

You can try the flash9 beta which was recently released. You'll find the
link here:

http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/

and you can try using a clean profile if it helps.

[Bug 68166] Re: Cryptodisk not correctly recognized

2006-10-25 Thread Sven Bachmann
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

  Hi,

I've got an USB Harddisk with a luks crypto partition on it. When I plug
it in, all works fine: the gnome-volume-manager pops up and asks me for
  the password.

But I also have a software RAID in my PC. I don't want to use the
crypttab, because I don't need the crypto-partition all the time. So I
think it should be possible, to pop up the same password dialog when I
try to access this partition the first time (eg via
  Places-Computer-Partition Name).

- At the moment, this just pops up Unable to mount the selected volume. -
mount: unknown filesystem type 'crypto_luks'
- .
+ At the moment, this just pops up Unable to mount the selected volume.
+ - mount: unknown filesystem type 'crypto_luks'.
+
+ And if possible, can you also enable this for CD-ROMs? I'd like to
+ create a CD Image as LUKS and put an ext2 Filesystem in it. So if the CD
+ is recognized as 'isLuks' then the password dialog should also appear.

  Thank you.

[Bug 67519] Re: [edgy] keyboard broken in X11 on xen dom0

2006-10-25 Thread packet
I think I have found the cause: openntpd. The keyboard begins stuttering
in the exact moment that ntpd is stepping time because of a great
offset. Keyboard works if I disable ntpd and stops working if I start it
then. I have tested this on the second computer and will test it now on
the first one. I cannot confirm this now, but it seems like time runs
much too fast in dom0 (this is on the computer where the CPU clock speed
is reported correctly), and this leads to ntpd stepping the time back
for as much as 4 seconds at once.

[Bug 68182] JavaScript websites have to reload webpages on actions that shouldn't reload.

On both dapper drake and edgy eft, websites that use JavaScript, for
example: Digg, reload the webpage on actions even though they should
just update the counter.

For example if I digg a comment, it would reload the webpage and jump
back to the location with an updated counter.

Another example is that if I press Show comment it would also reload

[Bug 51419] Re: Install updates-button only refreshes update list in it_IT environement

2006-10-25 Thread Luca Ferretti
Just to clarify what appened to other people: we, the Italian Ubuntu
translators, have used the following translation for a message in
update-manager:

Attendere, l'operazione potrebbe richiedere del tempo

Unfortunately this message is passed via command line to synaptic,
adding the ' (apostrophe) too. (see bug 67112 for details)

This should be the cause of the misbehaving.

Wating for the upstream fix, the message was changed, removing the '
(s/l'operazione/questo), so the next langpack update should also fix the
misbehavior. I'll report on it.

I beg your pardon!

[Bug 67621] Re: crashes when ripping cd with no profile selected

2006-10-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
No need to install a gstreamer0.8 packages, the Ubuntu desktop uses
gstreamer 0.10 since dapper. Do you have those profiles listed by gconf:
/system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/profiles/test and
/system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/profiles/[EMAIL PROTECTED]@numre. You might want
to reset /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/global/profile_list to the default
list with gconf editor to have standard profiles listed again

[Bug 62980] Re: Arrow keys are incorrectly mapped in vim

2006-10-25 Thread Philip Guyton
I get similarly unusable key mappings as this using a very generic
desktop, uk keyboard, and the edgy rc with all updates as of writing
applied.

I get exactly the same as the duplicate bug 67105 whilst in a gnome-
terminal and very different but equally unusable key mappings whilst in
a regular terminal (Ctrl-Alt-Function-key).

Work Around:-
But all is well in both gnome-terminal and a regular terminal if I invoke
vim.tiny not via vi but using vim.

p.s. my alternatives settings
/etc/alternatives/vi - /usr/bin/vim.tiny
/etc/alternatives/vim - /usr/bin/vim.tiny

Hope this helps

[Bug 66546] Re: Kubuntu Desktop CD doesn't boot for Intel Q965 chipsets

2006-10-25 Thread Jonathan Jesse
When booting from 6.06.1 LTS and the Edgy Release Candidate by removing the
quiet from the boot the messages are the same:
ACPI: Bus Type PCI registered
ACPI: PCI BIOS Revision 3.00 Entity at 0Xeb048, last bus =32
PCI: Using MMCONFIG
ACPI: Subsystem revision 20050902
ACPI: PCI Root Bridge [PCI_0] 0x
ACPI: Assume Root bridge [\_SB_.PCI]

After that it hangs w/ no response.

By booting the 6.06.1 LTS cd and passing linux pci = nommconf I am able to boot
in the Desktop CD.
However this command does not work in booting the release candidate.

This to me is a crtiical bug but don't know if the kernel developers
would agree. I hope it helps w/ this additional errors.

Also I recommend you to use lame preset=standard (or preset=medium or

[Bug 68172] Re: [disks-admin] Free space size line is incorrect.

2006-10-25 Thread James Love
The number that's reported in the screenshot has nothing to do with the
actual freespace on the partition. You probably guessed that, but you
mentioned that the number reported (175921... GiB) is 780,000 times your
drive. What I'm getting at is that the number, 17592186044416 is
actually the highest (Gigabyte) number representable in decimal form by
a 64 bit unsigned integer. (Multiply it by 1024 and 1024 again to see a
number that's the same as 2^64).

I'm currently at university in the computer center (with not much time
currently) so I can't recreate the scenario on any PCs here, nor do I
have my laptop (loaded with Ubuntu) on it, but I'm guessing it may be to
do with the program (disks) having problems reading the size of the free
space partition.

Is the hard drive in question anything special? Like SCSI? or SATA?
