[Bug 67893] Re: Option to create a separate /home partition when erasing entire disk during install.
The problem with this is that inexperienced users (the target audience for ubiquity) do not have an accurate idea in advance of how much space they should allocate to / and /home, and changing this after installation is very difficult. I am opposed to making this the default until the entire area of filesystem resizing is significantly better. Users who want to try out multiple Linux distributions easily qualify as advanced users, and will almost certainly want to use manual partitioning at some point anyway. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: ubiquity = partman-auto Importance: Undecided = Wishlist Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- Option to create a separate /home partition when erasing entire disk during install. https://launchpad.net/bugs/67893 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67931] Khmer Fonts package missing
Public bug reported: Hi, I have tested Kubuntu 6.10 RC, and I noticed that the Khmer fonts package is missing, but in the previous version 6.06 it has fonts package. The Khmer fonts package is important for Khmer people. There are Khmer packages for OpenOffice and KDE but they are useless without the fonts. The Khmer language meta package would also need this fonts package included. The fonts are named with KhmerOS (Khmer OS, Khmer OS System, Khmer OS Moul, Khmer OS Freehand, Khmer OS Fasthand and Khmer OS metal Chrieng). ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Khmer Fonts package missing https://launchpad.net/bugs/67931 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 68331] false positive regarding update just after an automaticaly warned update
Public bug reported: My OS: Ubuntu Edgy Eft RC (I hope its RC yet, last updated today (24 October 2006). I used to use Ubuntu 6.06 and had 6.10 via Web upgrade. Seems to be an update-manager and/or Synaptic issue The problem is as follows: When I am warned about the updates automatically by means of that orange button appearing on the uppermost Gnome panel, I click on it and proceed the update. At the beginning the orange warning button warned me that there are 1 updates to be installed. (This was today's case: just something like ubuntu-docs.) After the installation successfully done, that update window refreshes itself in some way as usual. After that, the same window (Re-translating the title of the window from Turkish to English: Software Updates, You can install 3 updates, Distribution updates) tells and advices me to install some more updates. How and why did they appear? Below are the list of software automatically checked and asking me to be installed: e2fsprogs From version 1.39-1 to 1.39-1 initscripts From version 2.86.ds1-14.1ubuntu16 to 2.86.ds1-14.1ubuntu16 volumeid From version 093-0ubuntu18 to 093-0ubuntu18 As its obvious, each of them have the same version codes regarding from and to info. And what's more: Below of that window there is a section for more info on the to-be-updated software. For those three checked/proposed to-be-installed software, that window's changes and update info section's changes tab states (when you select any of them by clicking on) -again re-translating from Turkish- as follows: The list of the changes is not accessible On that update info window, there are some more software listed but they are not checked/proposed to be installed. If it may be useful, these are; hpijs, python-adns, python-clientcookie, python-crypto, python-egenix, mxdatetime, python-egenix-mxproxy, python-egenix-mxstack, python-egenix, mxtexttools, python-gadfly, python-htmlgen, python-htmltmpl, python- imaging, python-imaging-sane, python-jabber, python-kjbuckets, python- Idap, python-mysqldb, python-pam, python-pexpect, python-pgsql, python- pylibacl, python-pyopenssl, python-pyxattr, python-reportlab, python- simpletal, python-soappy, python-sqlite, python-syck, python-xmpp. For those automatically unchecked ones update version codes seem to be real, at least froms and tos codes are different and I can see some info on changes and update info section changes tab when I click on any of them. Up to this point I doubt that those update offers are not valid in some way. To test it, I close that window without installing those updates, open Synaptic and ask for choosing all changes without refreshing it, Synaptic still offers me those three: e2fsprogs initscripts volumeid I say cancel and then refresh Synaptic. It does so. After all package info are downloaded, I again say select all updates. Result: No updates to be applied available! What expected: No more update warning after all offered by that orange button are installed. If -for some reason- there are really more updates, those should be seen after refreshing Synaptic, as well. Reproducable or not: I don't know what to do in order to reproduce the situation, but as I remember I had the same issue some time ago with again Edgy Eft but before RC, during the last phases of Beta. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- false positive regarding update just after an automaticaly warned update https://launchpad.net/bugs/68331 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 68172] Re: [disks-admin] Free space size line is incorrect.
Since the gnome partitioner does not report a free space at that position im guessing that disks-admin is actually displaying a negativ free space using a unsigned integer, but since there can't possibly be a negativ number of free bytes on a harddrive i would say its a bug, and if nothing else it affects the useability of the software. On 10/25/06, James Love [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The number that's reported in the screenshot has nothing to do with the actual freespace on the partition. You probably guessed that, but you mentioned that the number reported (175921... GiB) is 780,000 times your drive. What I'm getting at is that the number, 17592186044416 is actually the highest (Gigabyte) number representable in decimal form by a 64 bit unsigned integer. (Multiply it by 1024 and 1024 again to see a number that's the same as 2^64). I'm currently at university in the computer center (with not much time currently) so I can't recreate the scenario on any PCs here, nor do I have my laptop (loaded with Ubuntu) on it, but I'm guessing it may be to do with the program (disks) having problems reading the size of the free space partition. Is the hard drive in question anything special? [Bug 68338] sky2 driver stalls
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic Hi, In my sony vaio sz2hp, booting with 2.6.17-10 loads the sky2 driver, which stops transmitting after a relatively short time, even with a small load. My mileage varies... However, if I boot with 2.6.17-7, the sk98lin driver is loaded instead and the network card works fine (or so I perceive). [Bug 68337] Server crash on ACPI suspend/resume
Public bug reported: Xserver crashes when I suspend and resume an X41 laptop. The symptom look similar to #61746, but I gett different xorg.log. I checked that all is okay, when I switch off echo -n mem /sys/power/state from acpi sleep.sh script, so it is not acpi-support problem. [Bug 68339] Gnucash can't read (or write ?) its own files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnucash Hello, After upgrading from Dapper to Edgy, I happily noticed that Gnucash 2 was available. Once started, it tries to open my pre-2.0 Gnucash book, and then launches the XML import druid. So far so good, I choose the right strings, apply, etc etc. The file opens successfully, everything is fine, all my old stuff is here, and I can add transactions. Unfortunately, once the file is saved, it can't be accessed any more. I suspect Gnucash not to save the file correctly, since the file size is ridiculously small after saving it. The backup file is correctly saved though, and if I try to open that one, I have the import druid again, which shows that the file is backed up and let unchanged. When launched in an xterm, I have this (trying to open a file which have been previously saved) * gnucash: [M] Found Finance::Quote version 1.11 /home/raph/.gnucash/books/Clean_Account.xac:2: parser error : Start tag expected, '' not found [Top] ^ * ...with the parser error repeated three times. The import druid doesn't seem to be faulty since I tried to create brand new files with Gnucash 2 and the result is still the same. Export feature produces weird files too (they seem incomplete, only the accounts are listed, no transactions). After some web crawling I found a help request about the same problem on Gnucash's mailing list, but no one answered it. I couldn't find anything else. The installed version of Gnucash is 2.0.1-3ubuntu3, and I have an up-to- date Edgy system (upgraded from a Dapper a couple of days ago, some problems occured since this wasn't the final release but I'm a long-time Debian user and I managed to get it updated just fine playing with dpkg and apt-get ; nothing should be missing since ubuntu-desktop and its dependencies are installed). I wish I could do some more testing and report more but now I'm stuck somehow, I don't know what to check next. [Bug 59620] Re: This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout (newer ext2/ext3)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 7993 *** Paul, sorry to say, but you are doing an abyssmal job here. You mark as dupe for the wrong bug second time around. You fail to read the stuff that I already posted. All the information you needed was AFAIK in the original report. Facts you you choose to continue to ignore 1) I never asked for resizing. 2) In fact I never asked for parted to come into the picture when installing. I already had all partitions set up. parted bringing the ubuntu install to a halt is IMNSHO another, serious flaw in the ubuntu installation process. Unfortunately, I do not know what package that should be reported against. There was no job for parted to be done, really. 3) I tried version 1.7 of parted via an updated Knoppix Live CD. The other reports were 1.6 and upstream claims all these have been dealt with in 1.7. I went to the trouble of confirming this is not true only to have you mark my report as dupe falsely twice. 4) You keep asking already answered and irrelevant question (like give me the output of dpkg -l. Like I said, I stumbled across this when installing ubuntu, I confirmed this with Knoppix. What on earth does my current ubuntu installation have to do with this???) Do as you please.
