[Bug 86384] Re: kernel/initramfs >2.6.20-6 fails to init RAID/LVM root

2007-02-20 Thread octothorp
...and now a whole bunch of failures in a row, failing differently.

I'm only now running after trying 2.6.20-6-generic without the serial
console. 2nd time was the charm.

Now, 2.6.20-6-generic seems to boot reliably after not trying
2.6.20-8-generic anymore.

Hopefully there's some common thread in all this. I cannot see it.

[Bug 86656] Feisty Text Based Installation Bugs

2007-02-20 Thread runixd
Public bug reported:

I am installing Xubuntu Herd 4.
feisty-alternate-i386.iso.
Using text based installer and there are a few issues.

1) Keyboard detection is broken. When attempting to detect my keyboard
it asks me to replicate non-printable chars, after which assumes I have
a .jp keyboard.

2) Timezone selection gives me very few choices, none are relative.

3) Wireless Card (Intel) is not detected (it is detected via graphical
install of 6.10)

4) Installer lets me pick any resolution I want, however 'vesa' doesn't
seem to support the one I pick and display comes scrambled. Upon hitting
Ctrl+Shift+1 I am taken to a terminal with large font, i.e. high
resolution text on low resolution display. To fix I should either
_blindly_ edit xorg.conf and change the resolution to 1024x768 and
restart gdm or anything else to prevent X starting, all should be blind.

[Bug 86654] Minimize speed in Compiz is fixed, adjusting "Minimize" speed in gconf only affects restore speed.

2007-02-20 Thread Bastanteroma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Running compiz installed by Desktop Effects, windows minimize almost
instantly, although more gracefully when in front of the desktop than in
front of other windows. Trying to extend the minimize time by lowering
the value in gconf-editor doesn't change minimize speed, though it does
make windows take longer to restore after being minimized.

[Bug 86650] [edgy] AVM Fritzcard ISDN PCMCIA does not boot

[Bug 85943] Re: [apport] Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV while playing a movie in Totem

2007-02-20 Thread Sergey
I think this happened with both 8.33.6 and 8.28.8. I can try downgrading
to an older driver, but I'm not sure how that downgrade is supposed to
work with the currently installed kernel. Or should I downgrade the
kernel too to try older fglrx? Thanks!

Also, I found this URL to report problems to ATI about this driver, I guess I
should try using it...

[Bug 63079] Re: [update-manager] %s is used where it shouldn't be

2007-02-20 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Sebastian:

I've looked at all the strings in rosetta in update-manager (spanish
language) and I haven't found this, so I guess it's fixed.

However, if you think it isn't, or if you experience again this, reopen
the bug. If you do it, it would be helpful if you can provide the
correct string (in English), and which Ubuntu and update-manager you are
using.

Best regards

You might also want to know that under the switches tab in alsamixer,
there is a checked headphone switch.In dapper (for me) there was no such
switch and there was an IEC-"somenumber" switch. This substitution also
took place in edgy when the sound problem started.

it was Edgy did update it

Θέμα: [Bug 77039] Re: weird sound issu e (headphone+dvd)

2007-02-20 Thread nik1111
Yes it was edgy. And I have applied every update till now and there are
no problems with the sound (in fact the only problem I have is that
sometimes logging out freezes my screen but that's not about sound it's
probably xgl :) )

I cannot reproduce the issue I described to you in edgy (thankfully) but
I can give you any outputs you want using the dapper livecd.

You might want to know that this did not happen only in ubuntu. Gentoo
ivecd had no sound, as well and I suspect the same problem there.

Sabayon livedvd had working sound though and the livecd of pclinuxos had
sound as well.

So, I dont have any problems with the sound anymore but if you still
need any outputs from my system just tell me and I ll send them to you.

[Bug 86642] usplash on ubuntu 6.10 amd64 doesn't display 1024x768 theme.

2007-02-20 Thread senyorita
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

/etc/usplash.conf contains xres=1024 yres=768.
And /boot/grub/menu.lst contains vga=791 for the 1024x768 framebuffer.

But usplash only displays the lowest resolution of the themes.
In my case, it is 800x600.

I downloaded the source code of the theme and forced it to set the first
resolution as 1024x768.
And I copied it to /usr/lib/usplash and set it as the current theme.
It could display 1024x768.

But not every theme has source codes, and I think it is not a normal way to
change resolution.
A nomal way must be to change /etc/usplash.conf and /boot/grub/menu.lst not the
theme's source codes.

How can I make usplash display the 1024x768 resolution of themes?

[Bug 68654] Re: Default Resolution on high quality CRT monitors is too high

2007-02-20 Thread ericw
I find this annoying as well. My monitor is a 17 inch samsung SyncMaster
700NF, and Ubuntu (up to Feisty Herd 3) starts at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What it currently does (at least with my monitor) is pick the highest
possible resolution at 60hz. A decent algorithm for CRT's would be to
choose the highest standard resolution the monitor supports at 85hz; and
I can't see any cases in which this would work worse than the current
way (assuming it can tell the difference between CRT's and LCD's)

Even a 15" CRT monitor I had ten years ago or so could do [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks for any help :)

[Bug 77913] Re: cvSetIdentity problem in 0.9.7 fixed in 1.0.0

2007-02-20 Thread Peter Antoniac
Ok. After installing the packages in Feisty (aptitude install libcv1
libcvaux1 libcv-dev libcvaux-dev) and fix the error with too few
arguments to function ‘cvSetIdentity’ from my provided source, it
worked. Here is the new source code:

#include
#include
int
main ()
{
  int l, c;
  CvMat *ident = cvCreateMat (3, 3, CV_32FC1);
  //cvSetIdentity (ident);
  cvSetIdentity (ident, cvRealScalar (1));
  printf ("Matrix: identity[%d:%d]\n", ident->rows, ident->cols);
  for (l = 0; l < ident->rows; l++)
{
  for (c = 0; c < ident->cols; c++)
printf ("%f:", cvmGet (ident, l, c));
  printf ("\n");
}
  printf ("\n");
  return 0;
}

// You sould compile it with:
$ cc -o testIdent testIdent.c `pkg-config --libs opencv`
// The result should be:
Matrix: identity[3:3]
1.00:0.00:0.00:
0.00:1.00:0.00:
0.00:0.00:1.00:

Which is correct!
Bug therefore can be closed for Feisty...

[Bug 86641] 'find' wrap-around prompt is invisible in full-screen mode

2007-02-20 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have a large document and I'm using ctrl-F find to locate specific
keywords in the text. I'm viewing in full-screen mode.

When I get to the end of the document, the dialog that asks if I want to
start at the top fails to rise to the top -- it is stuck underneath the
full-screen view. I can see that it's there by pressing alt-tab
repeatedly. But it can be accessed. It has keyboard focus, since I can
press 'enter' and the invisible dialog is accepted ('yes' to wrap) and I
get back control.

Needs to be fixed so that full-screen find doesn't trap lesser users :-)

Cheers
JP

[Bug 84194] Re: [time-admin] adding ntp server ip from clock applet fails

2007-02-20 Thread JonathanBult
I did some additional testing.

I unchecked the "Keep clock synchronized with Internet servers:"
checkbox and then removed ntp, ntp-server, and ntp-simple with Synaptic.

I then went into the "Adjust Date & Time" windows and reselected the
"Keep clock synchronized with Internet servers:". I was prompted to
install the ntp components, which I approved. After installation, I
clicked on the "Select Servers" button and then scrolled through the
list of unchecked servers to the bottom. The attached screenshot
reveals what I saw.

I added us.pool.ntp.org to the list, which showed up already checked at
the bottom. I attempted to uncheck it, and received a crash. After
restarting the "Adjust Date & Time" window and opening the "Time
servers" window, only the two servers (ntp.ubuntu.com and 127.127.1.0)
were checked. Adding us.pool.ntp.org, closing the "Time servers" window
and the "Adjust Date & Time" window, then reopening them reveals that
the added server is not saved.

[Bug 84194] Re: [time-admin] adding ntp server ip from clock applet fails

2007-02-20 Thread JonathanBult
I'm having the same issue. I'm also running Edgy. In fact, I receive a
crash as well. I've attached the crash log. Here's the situation...

I right-click on the time/date in the upper right corner and select
"Adjust Date & Time". The Time and Date Settings window appears and the
spinning dial runs for about 15 seconds while I hover my cursor over the
window. I selected "Keep clock synchronized with Internet servers:" and
it installed some things. Then I went into the "Select Servers" list
and saw a list of servers. At the bottom of the list were 3 checked
items. The first item was a blank line. The second item was
ntp.ubuntu.com. The third item was 127.127.0.1 or something like that.
I unchecked them all, which caused them to disappear from the list.

I added in us.pool.ntp.org and closed the windows. I then went back
into the "Adjust Date & Time" and then "Select Servers" and
us.pool.ntp.org was no longer there. No servers were selected. I added
it back in and then tried to uncheck it. That's when the crash
occurred. I can duplicate these problems every time.

Unchecking the "Keep clock synchronized with Internet servers:" checkbox
and then clicking the "Synchronize Now" button doesn't seem to do
anything.

and can not find the SATA hard drive.

I know Ubuntu works with this notebook, I'm currently running 6.10 and
in the past had 6.04 installed with no problems.

You need write permissions for the directory you attempt to backup to,
in this case, your trying to write to your cd mount point.

[Bug 50209] Re: new layout for logout-dialog

2007-02-20 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Dan, such a simplification would require coordination between the kernel
and desktop teams, and in Ubuntu's current development process would
first need to be written up as a specification. (Please CC me if you do
that.)

Lou, you should report the lack of a "Sleep, Shut Down, or Restart"
permission in the "Users & Groups" Account Properties window as a
separate bug.

2007-02-20 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Hello Cristian!

Beryl isn't in Ubuntu, so we don't track beryl bugs here. But please,
report this bug in the upstream tracker:

http://bugs.beryl-project.org/

If you can reproduce this bug without running beryl, then please report
it here, but if you are running beryl, we can't track it.

Best regards
Emilio
