[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-22 Thread Clay Weber
As the kernel config option does not look to be going away (there are
plenty of so-called experimental kernel options that are in just about
every distro's version) as laptop support is deemed more important, and
i tend to concur, even though I don't have a laptop. Becausr this
problem does not effect all scanners, just plustek-based ones as far as
I can see, the plac this needs to be fixed is imo in the plustek
backkend, as all that needs to be done it seems is to have the plustek
backend keep the usb device 'awake'.

If so, I wonder if it is a good idea to register bug reports on sane's
bug tracker as well?

[Bug 109108] Network Manager VPN Connection blanks /etc/resolv.conf

2007-04-22 Thread Steve Brown
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Configure a PPTP VPN Connection in Network Manager.

Choose the option Use-Peer-DNS under PPP Options tab.

Make connection to VPN server.

cat /etc/resolv.conf and notice that peer's DNS is set correctly as the
nameserver entry.

Terminate VPN connection

Reconfigure VPN Connection and remove tick from Use Peer DNS option
under PPP tab

Reconnect VPN.

/etc/resolv.conf is now completely blank (except for a # generated by
NetworkManager, do not edit! line), rendering name resolution inactive
and generally stuffing anything you might want to do on the net!

Worked correctly under Edgy - not working correctly on Feisty.

[Bug 91056] Re: [Feisty] synaptic keypad lock button launches KDE or Gnome Help Center

2007-04-22 Thread JNowka
I wonder if the key codes are added together in some way. if they were
then the problem could be just a simple overflow problem.

example:

0xe0 1110
0x75 01110101

added together is
0x155 101010101

This would likely cause an overflow which would drop the first digit off the
answer leaving
0x55 01010101

Just pondering

[Bug 109103] cpad is not detected as synaptics - does not work on kernel 2.6.20

2007-04-22 Thread sk0rp10
Public bug reported:

Regression:

Synaptics cpad doesn't work anymore on kernel 2.6.20-xx and the cpad kernel
source gives compilation errors (implicit declaration of functions ) if
compiled,
the reproducibility is ALWAYS on this kernel version and I think it should be
fixed soon since it makes Toshiba Laptops equipped with cpad unusable with
Feisty or Gutsy.

In the xorg.log simply a not found error is raised for the synaptics

it seems that su-to-root isn't installed by default in the desktop version of

easy fix though:

so couldnt "menu" be listed as a depend for gsambad and then this wouldnt crop

With "sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup" i could solve it, but it's not the

With the default english locale console mc and gdm errors look unreadable a
strange due to UTF8, but i used Hungarian locale in my new install, and all

I clicked burn before letting the image auto md5, then when it came time
to verify it calculated the image md5sum and then the one of my newly

the xresprobe part being of importance as it is this tool that is used

I suspect the bug to be related to

the casper log of the liveCD may help to know if the two bugs are

[Bug 107070] Re: VPN menu not accessible when using dhcp

2007-04-22 Thread ekingery
I have the same problem. I have to completely re-install network-
manager to get it back to the 'dhcp' state where the vpn connections
show up. Also, this is a fairly major problem for me, as I definitely
need VPN, and I definitely prefer to get a static IP from my router, as
the machine I am running on is used as a server.

I also posted in bug 106509, as that seems to be the same issue. Thanks
for any assistance with this problem.

[Bug 84119] Re: feisty trackpoint false clicks & movement

James, I did install Feisty on the Thinkpad R31 and applied your Wrong

Sometime I'll check to see if CD Live F6 on boot options would allow
adding i8042.nomux=1, likely after Feisty is set up and running -
example, wireless.

Thanks, Jerry

[Bug 106509] Re: NetworkManager menus doesn't show VPN options, connection information nor wireless network list with static configuration.

2007-04-22 Thread ekingery
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 106508 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106508

I have the same problem. It's not a matter of having the right vpn
packages. The network-manager-pptp package works fine for me, until I
try to go from dhcp to static IP. Then the icon only shows 'Manual
configuration', and I can no longer get to my vpn connection. I have to
completely re-install network-manager to get it back to the 'dhcp' state
where the vpn connections show up. This seems to be the same issue as
bug 107070 is addressing. I will post this info there as well.

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-22 Thread Dean Loros
Edit your apt sources.list sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and add these lines:
#Gscan2pdf
deb http://gscan2pdf.sourceforge.net/download/debian binary/

save & close.then start Synaptic & update.
Search for gscan2pdf, then highlight it/right click & add all depends EXCEPT
sane. return & download.

I guess because it's a #rd party program, the depends don't come up
except with a "prompt"

Hope this helps--I've posted on the forums also.

2007-04-22 Thread Carlos Ribeiro
Will this package be backported to Feisty? I think that (advocacy-wise)
it will make a lot of difference. The message regarding this problem,
"as is" in the Chess game, is not very helpful for novices. Games are
usually one of the very first things that a new user will try upon
installing a new system, and I believe that Chess is going to be
somewhat popular as a mean to try out the new installation, even if just
out of curiosity.

[Bug 93925] Re: xserver bug: random lockups, blank/garbled screen, resolution changes

2007-04-22 Thread jdm64
I've done a fresh install of Kubuntu 7.4, yet still I'm having the same
problem.

My motherboard has a build in graphic card (Trident), but I'm using (and
want to use) the Radeon 9250 SE graphic card. Also the Radeon card has
support for running dual displays. I'm using the VGA output, not the DVI
output.

I've noticed that lspci shows the Radeon card at PCI Bus 00:0a.0 and
00:0a.1 (That is if I'm reading lspci bus output correctly). But
strangely the xorg.conf file shows the card at PCI:0:10:0. I don't know
if that's normal, and could be causing the problem, I don't know.

I've done memtest several times for several hours with no errors. My RAM
doesn't seem to be the problem. If there is a hardware failure it's
somewhere other than RAM. Are there any other hardware tests?

I did find out that the line in the xorg.conf file:
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Was causing corruptions in the title bar, so I disabled it, but I still have
the original problems.

I've looked through the BIOS settings and found some related to
shadowed/cached BIOS/video memory/ram. I've loaded the default setting
for most (but not all) of the BIOS options, but still have the problem.

I've deduced the problem must be either:
1) Malfunctioning hardware (graphic card, mother board, etc.,) .
2) Incorrect BIOS settings.
3) Incorrect xorg.conf file.
4) Malfunctioning driver.
5) Other malfunctioning system software.

Kubuntu 7.4 (final not beta) has slightly different xorg.conf file, so
I've attached that file with .feistyfinal extension.

[Bug 103790] Re: external USB HDD canno't unmout

2007-04-22 Thread Olivier Guéry
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36252 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36252

Not exactly here but near... Test with an external 250G disk with a small 20G
Fat32 and a big 230G ext3
- Feisty 64 : the ext3 failed to mount (bad fs type. superbloc, etc). The fat
32 mount. When ejecting the fat32 (what else ?) with mouse the two trie to
remount, same error as previous...
- Feisty 32 : the two mounts. Can't unmount... it remount each time !

Everything was right under Edgy... for me it's a bug !

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-22 Thread t2000kw
I tried gscan2pdf but the application from the link is missing some
packages, according to an error message I got. Not sure where to get
these things--I thought when a package was chosen all of the associated
packages were brought along with it???

Anyway, it doesn't know my scanner exists, so there's not much I can do
with it in this state.

As for disabling the USB Suspend in the kernel, can you give me a few
pointers on where to disable this when I'm recompiling the kernel (what
module to look for it under, etc.)?

I think I can get the information needed on how to recompile somewhere
in a book I have or online.

Of course, if you wish to offer a step-by-step here you can do so, but I
think it would be rather long.

[Bug 70827] Re: mplayer can't play videos with firefox 2

2007-04-22 Thread Macavity
I have a similar problem. The mplayer plugin in firefox is partially
functional w.r.t. realmedia. Audio-only streams work fine, but video
streams are problematic. Sometimes I get just audio and no video, and
sometimes the video buffers correctly, I get about one frame of video
showing and them the plugin reports 'stopped'. With some streams,
repeatedly clicking 'play' eventually gets the plugin to play the
stream, but with others it does not.

I am using feisty on two machines, both just upgraded from edgy. I had
the same problems on both edgy and feisty. It isn't a network/firewall
problem as one of the machines dual-boots to windows - which streams
realmedia just fine.

[Bug 109084] Computer does not start after placed in hibernation (Kubuntu 7.04)

2007-04-22 Thread JoelM
Public bug reported:

I am using Kubuntu 7.04 Linux 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP i686 GNU/Linux

Problem:

I select Log Out and then Hibernate. The computer then shows the screen
savor and within a shot moment it shuts down. Then I turn on the PC.
Computer begins to start up as it normally does. The Kubuntu splash
screen shows (the one before Xorg loads) after a few moments the screen
turns completely black and it stays like this. The computer is running,
the fans are working, the monitor does not go into power save. The green
light on the tower that indicates that the computer is on begins to
blink. I try to press keys on the keyboard and mouse, nothing brings the
PC back. I tap on the on/off button, nothing happens. Finally, in order
to use the computer, I have to hold down the on/off button long enough
for the computer to shut down. The reboot is successful.

experimental. I think it should be deaktivited, there are to many
Problems with it. I think it should only be aktivated when the Problem
is fixed. Many People have Scanners, which now do not work any more. Not
every User can recompile a Kernel to fix this Problem.

[Bug 109080] When populating list in Kamefu screen goes blank

2007-04-22 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kamefu

When I am populating the list in kamefu the blank will go blank at 90%.
This is repeatable as it haves happened twice in a row. Whent eh screen
goes blank the computer seems to be still running as Amarok was still
playing music, but the computer was not responsive at all, so, I was
forced to do a hard reset.

I don't know if this is related to the kamefu crash or not, but when I
rebooted the computer I was not able to login to MSN on Kopete. I was
forced to shutdown kopete and then re-open it to get it working again.

[Bug 109079] [Feisty] Weird values in memory_limit on both php5-cgi and php5-cli

2007-04-22 Thread GatoLoko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

Both php5-cli and php5-cgi packages have weird default values.

Until now all system I have seen comes with 8M or 16M default
memory_limit in both CGI and CLI including warty, breezy, dapper and
edgy, other distros and vanilla php.

Feisty has memory_limit=1232M in CLI and memory_limit=128M in CGI.

I've searched a bit and can't find the origin of this values so I think
it must be a mistake.

[Bug 89693] Re: after upgrade edgy->feisty, high udev CPU usage

2007-04-22 Thread Scudette
I also have the same problem with kernel 2.6.18 running on a cryptroot.
This does seem to be some kind of loop entered by udev. For me this
fixed the issue:

/etc/udev/rules.d/85-evms.rules:

commenting out this:
#SUBSYSTEM=="block", ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="dm-*",
GOTO="evms_activate_do"

fixes the issue.

[Bug 108484] Re: Desktop size larger than display

2007-04-22 Thread Maurizio
Hi
Thanks for the suggestion

After having setup automatically the image or manually the horizontal
position of my L170p monitor, the screen is again perfect.

But I have one more problem that hinders my work.

I have a Windows XP as well installed on the same PC and I realized that
if the screen is ok with Ubuntu the same is not on Windows and
viceversa.

The peculiar thing is that before upgrading Ubuntu from 6.10 to 7.04 I
didn't have any problem with the screen.

If it were of any help I could purchase a DVI cable and connect my
monitor to the DVI port on the computer.

Any hint is welcome
