[Bug 42600] Re: Microphone does not work on Dell Inspiron 630m
I am still testing and I think, I've catched the bad boy - it's GStreamer! I thought, my microphone doesn't work at all, but that's wrong. The microphone works absolutely correct with everything but GStreamer! That means, any GStreamer related software doesn't work. That's for instance, gnome-audio-recorder, ekiga or jokosher. In neither of these programs the microphone work. BUT it works with software, that doesn't require GStreamer. The microphone works perfectly with Audacity, Skype and even Ardour! It works also if I record something with mancoder in the terminal. So my guess it, that the HDA Intel Chip and Gstreamer have some problems with each other. The only gnome-program, that gives me an error is jokosher. It says: GStreamer encountered a general stream error. gstbasesrc.c(1642): gst_base_src_loop (): /timeline/playbackbin/Click_Track_Bin/Click_Track_AudioSource: streaming task paused, reason not-linked (-1) I am not sure, if this is an error which depends only Jokosher or GStreamer at all. -- Microphone does not work on Dell Inspiron 630m https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/42600 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 119471] Re: 2.6.20-16-generic cannot modprobe nvidia-glx
I did sudo apt-get remove nvidia-glx-legacy Then I installed restricted manager and I used it to enable NVIDIA propr driver. I rebooted. I got empty screen so I shut down kdm via /etc/init.d/kdm stop. Then I tried to startx and I got API mismatch: NVIDIA kernel module version 1.0.7184, and X module version is 1.0.9631, so I looked into /lib/linux-restricted-modules and I found .nvidia_new_installed file. I removed that file and tried startx again. X Window started with correct acceleration! Then I logged into my user account and while the display was 1920x1440 the refresh rate was very poor. Kubuntu configuration revealed I run at 56 Hz and the only other option was 50 Hz. After some experimentation I found that after switching to 50 Hz the monitor appears flicker-free. Somehow, although KDE KControl says that it runs at 50Hz it actually runs at 75 Hz. Thank you for your help. [Bug 118551] Re: Can't install packages without root access
Freddy, I'm aware of this. However on Linux an install generally only consists of putting the binary and config files into the correct system wide locations. When installing programs from source you are able to pass your home dir in via the ./configure command which then allows you to install within your home dir, if you don't have root access. This can currently be done by apt-getting the source and building it yourself. [Bug 118593] Re: mouse preferences acceleration not saving
I've had this issue as well for a while. I've been overriding gnome- control-center with 'xset m default'. Mouse speed is normal at gdm. When I log in, it immediately goes to a crawl. 'xset q | grep accel' reports acceleration: 3/10 threshold: 0. If I remove .gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/%gconf.xml and log out, the problem does not re-occur on next log in until I open the mouse applet again. When I first open the mouse applet the slider is in the middle. If I move it, it goes to the left and my mouse speed is back to 3/10. When running gnome-control-panel in the foreground of a shell, the mouse applet reports: (gnome-mouse-properties:8550): capplet-common-WARNING **: Unable to find a default value for key for /desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/motion_acceleration. [Bug 33762] Re: Appletouch trackpad unbearably slow
OK - I've managed to fix this for all OSs, and in all cases. Make the following changes to the default Xorg.conf: 1. Change Option SendCoreEvents true in the Synaptics section to Option CorePointer 2. Change InputDevice Configured Mouse at the end of the file to InputDevice Configured Mouse SendCoreEvents 3. Move InputDevice Synaptics Touchpad to before the Configured Mouse Line 4. [Bug 120219] Re: Wish: enable full ZFS support in Gutsy
As I have followed up on this more, it seems that Linus himself would like the ZFS but is wary of Sun and concerned with the licensing incompatibilities. Ubuntu seems more pragmatic, where if the code is useful it should be included, with a hope for future Free software to replace the closed-source. ZFS might be just that. My suggestion to Ubuntu is to implement ZFS anyways (is this possible?) either into the kernel or as a module for Ubuntu, and then write an app similar to Apple's TimeMachine to take advantage of this file system. Then, use the ZFS as the default file system and present the new TimeMachine-type app with first-boot, along with an intro screen that explains the concept and its benefits, and how to do it. Please consider this, and consider it (time machine app) for ALL of the Ubuntu family (K/X/Edu/Ubuntu) as I am tired of innovation for Kubuntu being three steps behind Ubuntu -- Wish: enable full ZFS support in Gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120219 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
