Re: [Bug 56692] Re: ATI radeon: poor 3D performance
I've done some tests with nexuiz (a full 3d game, quite intensive for my video card) without the option disable low impact fallback it is not playable, after enabling it I got nearly 60fps, sometimes with 1 second hangs, but the situation is not so bad... [Bug 38442] Re: MASTER: Doesn't support < 1024x768 resolutions
Henrik, Thank you for your acknowledgement and escalation of this issue. Your comments are appreicated and duly noted. However, I believe that we will have to agree to disagree here. That it took over a year for a "prevents Installation" issue over a year to become a "High" priority item, just isn't okay. I appreciate your comments about impact levels and tone, but really, we've been quite generous. Those of us posting here took the time to research our own problems, and spent the time ON the forums to find out this was a bug issue. We then took the time to find this thread, and post to you about them. This issue has already spilled over FROM the forums, so that should have been a clue to you. How many people posting on this bug were relatively new users? We are only trying to help the Ubuntu community to be stronger, and we deserve your understanding of our frustration. Everyone here has the same goal to make Ubuntu better. But until today, with this escalation, the issue had been largely ignored. True, this is only one bug, but it is a larger issue is of image for Ubuntu. When any new person (with old or unrecognzied hardware) gets introduced to Ubuntu, and this issue is the SECOND thing that they ever experience from it (possibly unsurmountable) it sets a poor tone for quality right away, and leaves a bad taste for what Ubuntu is about if they understandably they walk away in frustration. Every person out there with "unrecognized" vid hardware (lots) or gets defaulted to 640x480 will be affected by the install screen design oversights above. I submit that you have no truly accurate metrics on ATTEMPTED Ubuntu installtions, and that the issue is larger than the Ubuntu developers assume. You do not have the user impact data to classify this as a "small portion" of users - because they never could install it to become users. (For the record on issues above the "TABBING" technique to navigate around the pages and find the cursor or 'Next' button didn't work for my install - I tried that. Only the Alt-LeftDrag screen technique did.) Unfortunately the inaction on this left me professionally frustrated, with no other choice but to make a row where you could hear us on your bug reporting tool instead of the forums - which we had done already. If we hurt your feelings, or stepped on your toes, then sorry - but the end justified the means, and I believe you know this. We are all working towards the same goals, and wish to see you succeed. I will not be posting any more on this topic, and am out of your hair. Thank you for your time. Good luck to us all. -- MASTER: Doesn't support < 1024x768 resolutions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 81137] Re: [Feisty] suspend and hibernate fail on MB Asrock K8NF6G-VSTA
The problem is NOT solved. I have upgraded the bios to 1.60 and made the adjustments as specified by Loic Martin above. No further modifications to the bios defaults. The cpu is a Sempron 2800. The uname -1 response is: Linux ... 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 20:19:32 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux When I go into suspend, the computer seems to go into suspend mode. The power light of the computer is flashing green. To awake, I only have to click the left (right does not work) mouse button. But the display never gets activated and remains dark; the display LEDs indicate no-VGA- signal The motherboard also has no sound under feisty, so I couldn't say if anything goes on at all. Keyboard at least responds with Numlock light going on and off when num button pressed. When hibernating the computer goes off, and can be restarted with the power button. After a few flashes of distorted Kubuntu logos, the display LEds show it is active, but dark. Moving the mouse brings up the login box, and I can login and continue where I left off. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev I'm building a carpc using feisty. Three separate video cards (built-in geforce 4, and two PCI geforce 5200s). Everything works fine when I run the servers one at a time via: % X -novtswitch -sharevts -Layout0 :0 % X -novtswitch -sharevts -Layout1 :1 % X -novtswitch -sharevts -Layout2 :2 This tells me that my xorg.conf (attached) is setup correctly. However, if I leave server :0 running, and then start server :1 the mouse and keyboard in server :0 stop working but work fine in server :1. Similarly, if I then start server :2, the mouse and keyboard stop working in server :1 but work fine in server :2 (you see the trend - the mouse and keyboard only work in the last X server started). I'm not sure if this is a bug in the X server or evdev, but I'm betting the latter. I solved this by changing the gnome-power-manager options like so: I opened gconf-editor, navigated to "/apps/gnome-power-manager/" then unchecked "lock_on_blank_screen" and checked "lock_use_screensaver_settings". so now the screen locking follows the behavior set in the screensaver gui as it should have in the first place. This is a fairly small bug, and the solution is to make sure "lock_use_screensaver_settings" is checked by default in Gnome. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "lock screen" option doesn't work (always locks) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Brian, Thanks for responding and for providing the guidlines for bug reporting. You'll find the required files attached to this message. This is my first installation of Ubuntu, so I cannot provide feedback on prior versions. In an unrelated note: I have to modify xorg.conf default bit rate from 24 to 16 to get my monitor to draw at 1024x768. If not, it draws at 800x600 and leaves a 2 inch black boarder around the whole screen. This occurs on all of the other distros I attempted to install... [Bug 121791] System freeze randomly
Public bug reported: The system freezes randomly. I read all other bug reports about system freeze but in almost all cases they had some special configurations or running firefox. To me it happens either when I have gaim opened and chatting with a friend, or when I'm watching a movie with Totem movie player(it's the only application opened). It happened with VLC also but that was on Beryl and maybe this is not the case. In another report i read about a system freeze with Network Manager turned on. I deselected it now. I hope that was the problem. That's all. Thanks for all your work. [Bug 116787] Re: [apport] gs-esp crashed with SIGSEGV in gdev_x_map_rgb_color()
Having logged out and logged back in, I re-intalled the .debs for gs- gpl. I can't remove gs-esp without causing a real headache in the package manager. I then fired up kghostview and in the options changed the setting for the interpreter from "gs" to "gs-gpl". kghostview renders the file as normal, and when I switch to Greyscale in the settings, I get a crash from gs-gpl. Re: [Bug 117824] Re: Nibbles respawn into wall issues
No, the issue I noted is that on those levels, once you die, the human players worm starts in the initial location, but heading in a different direction then it did at the level start. This different direction results in the worm heading towards a wall very quickly, usually quickly enough that the worm loses at a minimum of two lives before I can change direction. I know it is not another worm issue because I set the computer players to 1 and I have seen this happen often and consistently on the noted levels despite the computer worm having 10 lives (at game end computer worm will still have lives and I will not).Essentially what I noted is that the worms should, upon loss of a life, restarting in level start location- going the same direction. -Derek On 6/22/07, gQuigs <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Are you playing with Computer players? > > Could it be the other worms die quickly and make the game restart making > this a duplicate of > > https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-games/+bug/90907 > > -- > Nibbles respawn into wall issues > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117824 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > -- Nibbles respawn into wall issues https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That has nothing to do with your bug description, which states: "Ubuntu should make translations and input/display support packages available separately." They are already available separately. This too, is already quite possible. [Bug 121687] Re: Confusing message for fsck check at boot
The problem is that "boots" is not accurate. A filesystem can be mounted at other times than just at boot up. For example, if you have a USB exnternal disk, it will get mounted each time you insert it into your system. In addition, on larger systems there may be multiple partitions and filesystems, and so it's not "your hard disk", it's a specific filesystem. And we deliberately stagger things so that if you have multiple filesystems, we don't check them all at one time. In any case, there are many, many messages that get printed at boot time, and not all of them make sense to the newbie user. If Ubuntu wants to put some pretty graphical interface over e2fsck, great, but the suggested changes don't at all make sense for experienced system administrators who *do* care about this kind of detail, and taking away useful information is uncool. -- Confusing message for fsck check at boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since this is a conformance issue, and not a bug, they will not be changing it: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=167893;archive=yes The echo command is notoriously unportable across different shells and environments. If you want to use echo portably, you should never use any options (POSIX forbids them in general, but allows -n to be supported either as an option or an argument; XSI requires it be interpreted as a string argument); and you should never use backslashes (SUSv3 requires them to be special, as in dash; POSIX allows either behavior, and historically, System V interpreted them while treating -n as a string, while BSD does not interpret them and treats -n as an option). In all but the simplest of cases, printf(1) is much more preferable, being much more consistent across implementations. To be just a little clearer: for the _specific_ example you give above, both versions of echo are complying with POSIX, but only dash is complying with SUSv3. If you were to add the -n option, neither would be complying with SUS. If you were to further add some other option, such as -e, then only dash would be complying with POSIX. ** Changed in: dash (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- dash improperly parses "\\n" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121772 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
