[Bug 132984] [Feature Request] Need some kind of server chooser / failover system in ldm login.
Public bug reported: We could use either a) A choice of which server you wish your ldm session to login to (if different from the plain dhcp server) [Fairly trivial change. We can see how the python would work, just don't have a python + gtk/glade guy here] b) Load-balancing client sessions that detects when a server is offline, and will failover to the other(s), as well as ensuring that one LTSP server is not over-loaded by too many sessions. (Also, a way to put a server offline, easily, for maintenance.) Reason being, we're running a full hardware failure redundant system at our customers site (~50 users, DRDB backends with heartbeat failover). We've been forced to use GDM, instead of LDM (that was a *really* _fun_ game of hacks...), because there's currently no documented way to cope with a server being offline or down for maintenance with LDM. Theoretically, you could enter client specific information into lts.conf, and have an automatic re-write on server failure, but thats just too much work. Our customers site is a mainly Ubuntu shop. Ubuntu servers, Ubuntu Desktops. We're only now working on upgrades to feisty, because of the sheer amount trouble caused getting Dapper LTSP (GDM) working with some semblance of failover. This is a wish-list request, although its the main reason we're not using LDM in our sites, so if you could fix it, it'd be helpful. ** Affects: ltsp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Feature Request] Need some kind of server chooser / failover system in ldm login. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 132804] Re: **Compiz** forgets system beep settings
This morning the beep issued reappeared, and I started researching this bug. Enable system beep is related to gconf key /apps/metacity/general/audible_bell. Looking for its value in gconf- editor i could see that it was indeed set to false - as expected. Odd. Anyway, I don't use metacity, but compiz. I grabbed compiz source package and looked for the code that links metacity settings to the ones in compiz. Audio bell settings are synced in bell_settings_changed() (gtk/window- decorator/gtk-window-decorator.c:5374), where the value attributed to META_AUDIBLE_BELL_KEY is copied to COMPIZ_AUDIBLE_BELL_KEY (/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/audible_bell). So, this explains why the enabling and disabling system bell in gnome sound properties capplet solves the system bell problem. [Bug 112955] Re: vino (vnc) keyboard mapping problem
I've discovered a work-around which works for my particular environment, but which may also work for others. I suffered from the same symptoms, and eventually started booting into KDE to fix it, but it was still broken, just slightly less so. For instance, my right-arrow key was mapped incorrectly. I noticed that after working all day long in KDE, the right-arrow key would suddenly start working. It turns out that if my client machine goes to sleep, drops the remote connection, wakes up and rejoins the existing session, the keyboard is mapped perfectly. YMMV, but it works for me. My environment: Xubuntu Fiesty, GDM, FreeNX, and the official NXClient running on a Macbook with OSX 10.4.10. To reproduce: Use your remote software on the client to log into GDM as you normally would, in your environment of choice (Xubuntu or GNOME). Observe your keyboard is just as scrambled as you would expect. Send your client machine into a sleep/hibernate mode. Wake your client machine. Observe the remote software (NXClient in my case) alerting you to the fact that the connection was lost. Open the connection again, rejoining the previous session. Observe your keyboard works perfectly. I don't know if it will work for every combination of remote server/client software, but it works for mine. Re: [Bug 131495] Re: Infinite loop of killed messages when starting partman
i will not e-mails 2007/8/16, StealthSock [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I was getting the same error on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 445CDX with 80MB of RAM. If you alt+f4 to the log console (alt+f1 to switch back to the frontend installer) you will likely read an out of memory error. This can be fixed by enabling swap space. If you haven't already you will need to find a way to partition your hard drive before you begin the xubuntu install. I used a Vector Linux CD as it is text based and does not crash on this system. Make something about 600MB or bigger (I hope that Tecra doesn't still have its original 1.2gig HD) and write down the /dev name of your swap space you create. Mine was /dev/hda2. Start the xubuntu installation and alt+f2 to the command shell as soon as you can and type the command: swapon /dev/hda2 (or wherever your swap partition is). The installation doesn't crash anymore but it takes forever to install. I left the install running all night last night and when I woke up it was waiting for me to enter proxy information. That was at 10AM. It's now 2AM (16 hours later) and its pitiful 133Mhz MMX Pentium is still chugging away on the Select and install software screen at 53%. The language part at the beginning took the most time by far. 50mins for each variation on English (en_UK, en_CA, en_DK, etc.) At this point it will be very disappointing if xubuntu turns out to be unusable on this system or if there are any additional problems with the install. -- Infinite loop of killed messages when starting partman https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131495 You received this bug notification because you are a bug contact for debian-installer in ubuntu. -- Infinite loop of killed messages when starting partman https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

We'd be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem inside the bug report. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 133003] [gutsy] Hint for compiz-fusion default settings

I've removed type= Dialog | ModalDialog from Glide 2 and added it to Fade effects there, so if a program opens and closes, then it uses the Glide 2 effect, which is very nice, but do only a consolidate fade effect for the program's e.g. properties window, or dialog windows. [Bug 133004] LTSP Widescreen Client Screen Resolution
Public bug reported: I'm running 7.04 with LTSP and thin clients with NVIDIA cards. Overall working Ok, however machines with widescreens seem not to be getting the correct resolution. Further examination reveals that the resolution lines in xorg.conf begin with; 1440x1440 1280x1024 ... as opposed to; 1440x900 1280x1024 ... as they should be. As a test, I've Ctrl-Alt-F1'd to a console and logged in. Then done dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, and followed the menus by hand, selecting resolutions of 1440x900 and 1280x1024 and this generates the correct resolutions inthe xorg.conf. A ctrl-alt-backspace then yields the correct widescreen resolution of 1440x900. i.e. resolution detection is not working properly. If I run up Linux on the thin client (off it's hard disk) screen resolution / detection works fine out of the box. Are the flags that can be passed to dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg on thin client boot-up that will tell it to make a more sensible guess at the thin client resolution ? ** Affects: ltsp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- LTSP Widescreen Client Screen Resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133004 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
