[Bug 153336] Re: oem-config crash
AFAICT from my retest there are two bugs here: * The Step 1 of 4 counter does not advance There is no confirmation, after completing the final screen, that everything is OK. Instead the X server just quits and presents the user with a login prompt. [Bug 153152] Re: Fax utility not adding files to job.
here we go, my error_log is below. It seems that a pointer with the path for the temporary file is NULL (Unable to open Fax output file - (null)/hplipfax20071016171612.g3 for writing). Perhaps I do not have some environment variable which one normally has with Red Hat/Fedora (I use Ubuntu). In addition to fix this, I suggest also to do the following: 1. Let hp-sendfax observe the file conversion process, and report an error if the process dies, instead of falling into an infinite loop. 2. Check whether the system provides the cupsfilter command of CUPS 1.3.x. Then you can do the file conversion without involving CUPS, completely running as the calling user. This improves security a lot and keeps hp-sendfax with full control over the conversion process. But do not remove the old send a CUPS job method, to support the users of older CUPS versions. See man cupsfilter for more info. -- D [16/Oct/2007:17:16:12 +0100] [Job 7] foomatic-gswrapper: gs '-sstdout=%stderr' '-dBATCH' '-dPARANOIDSAFER' '-dQUIET' '-dNOPAUSE' '-sDEVICE=ijs' '-sIjsServer=h pijs' '-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595' '-dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842' '-r200x200' '-sIjsPar ams=Quality:Quality=2,Quality:ColorMode=1,FaxEncoding=99' '-dIjsUseOutputFD' '-s OutputFile=%stdout' '-' D [16/Oct/2007:17:16:13 +0100] [Job 7] D [16/Oct/2007:17:16:13 +0100] [Job 7] Closing renderer D [16/Oct/2007:17:16:13 +0100] Discarding unused job-progress event... [Bug 153139] Re: oem-config-firstboot wizard bugs
There simply is no keymap for Chinese in xkeyboard-config; it was the same in Feisty. Chinese defaults to the US keymap. There is a keymap for Chinese in xkeyboard-config upstream now: http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard- config/symbols/cn?revision=1.1view=markup However, we'd need to pull in a new upstream version in order to get this, and since the basic variant is just the same as the US keymap anyway, I don't really see that it buys us very much; it's purely a cosmetic issue. This doesn't seem to be release-critical for us. I acknowledge the Step bug; somebody else reported this as well. [Bug 153348] xrandr - screen rotation not working properley - seems like screen resolution is not changed, but orientation is
Public bug reported: This is the converse of bug #111859 The screen orientation changes correctly, but the resolution does not So on a display oriented for 1050x1400, the resolution remains 1400x1050 This is in Gutsy. and includes all updates as 2007-10-16 02:00 It only happens to me while using KDE. here are some details http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=574295 unfortunately there are not that many here. I am willing to provide whatever is needed, but I am unsure of how to diagnose the cause for this sort of issue. Thanks for the link. I have checked these links and they describe the default way to install fglrx. But as I mentioned in my previous post: This does not work. [Bug 139433] Re: kmail IMAP groupware functionality no longer working
Here is my scenario: I have two machines, both were running Edgy with kmail 1.9.6, and both were configured for groupware folders/imap resources. I have upgraded only one machine to Gutsy, now using kmail 1.9.6 (enterprise 0.20070907.709405). After the upgrade the Gutsy machine has the problem described in this bug. One point of interest, before attempting the workaround here, I compared kmailrc on the Edgy machine and the Gutsy machine, and the [IMAP Resource] sections were exactly the same (except for the account ID's of course): [IMAP Resource] TheIMAPResourceEnabled=true TheIMAPResourceFolderParent=.1869991014.directory/INBOX In Edgy, the groupware folders still work fine, without a TheIMAPResourceAccount= line. On the Gutsy machine I tried the workaround; manually adding the TheIMAPResourceAccount=accountid After restarting kontact/kmail, I get the following prompt: KMail will now create the required groupware folders as subfolders of INBOX; if you do not want this, cancel and the IMAP resource will be disabled If I say yes/Continue, then the empty Contacts, Cal folders etc. show up in the [cached/disconnected] IMAP acct with the icons indicating they are associated with Contacts, etc. BUT when I try to sync the cached IMAP acct with the server, it fails (Error while uploading folder Could not make the folder on the server...) because the folders already exist on the server (and are full of data) so it cannot create them again, and so it will not sync the existing data either. If I say Cancel to the Kmail will now create the required groupware folders prompt, then, as it promised, it disables the groupware functionality and unsets TheIMAPResourceEnabled=true in kmailrc. If I manually reset this value in kmailrc and restart kontact, it gives me the same KMail will now create the required groupware folders prompt. The same happened to feisty (look bug 138979 and others), however at that time the modules were called prism54pci and prism54common, (notice the change from prism54 to p54). I don't know why prism54, and not p54xxx, is enabled, as it never worked. [Bug 153027] Re: can't mount secondary sata drive
Found the problem: EVMS was moving, or acquiring the /dev/sdb1 device, and creating another node under /dev/evms/sdb1. I'm not sure if i had EVMS installed under Feisty, but either upgrading it to Gusty or having it installed when upgrading to Gusty triggered the problem. Took me almost an hour (rebooting the machine) to find out the problem, and i have quite a good understanding of linux. Others might be left at a total loss. So I would strongly suggest that the EVMS package first check /etc/fstab for the partitions it takes over, before it moves it for somewhere else. And either avoid taking over them in that case, or printing warning messages with the problem. Is there a way to move this bug from linux-source-2.6.22 to evms ? Thanks a lot!!! [Bug 136504] Re: Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)
The patch that Michael mentioned (and has since been issued as an upgrade in the repositories) fixed the issue for me as well. I really didn't think this bug would be fixed before Gutsy went gold. Yet another reason why Ubuntu is amaziing. Thanks for the heads up too, Michael. Also, is there some way I need to close this and mark it as resolved, or does a dev need to do it? ** Description changed: + UPDATE: This bug has since been fixed and an update issued. The latest NetworkManager will correct the issue. + For details: https://bugs.launchpad.net/baltix/+source/knetworkmanager/+bug/50214 + Ubuntu is unable to connect to any SSID that's hidden, no matter whether it's open, uses WPA, or any combination of factors relating to network configuration (tested on university's WPA enterprise, WPA2 personal on router, and open, unencrypted APs). This has been attempted in Gutsy with the latest updates and using an Intel 4965 AGN wifi card through both the standard network configuration tool as well as NetworkManager. As soon as SSID broadcasting is enabled, all works well. Otherwise, it starts to connect (green status lights in nm-applet) and indicates in the tooltip that it's connecting to the designated network, but upon completion, is actually connected to another AP (or it freezes on the connecting stage and eventually fails). This is all manual, naturally, as I don't expect nm-applet to automatically connect to hidden networks.
