[Bug 153336] Re: oem-config crash

2007-10-16 Thread Ian Jackson
AFAICT from my retest there are two bugs here:

 * The Step 1 of 4 counter does not advance
There is no confirmation, after completing the final screen, that everything
is OK. Instead the X server just quits and presents the user with a login
prompt. This is quite jarring.

** Summary changed:

- oem-config crash
+ oem-config sudden exit

[Bug 153152] Re: Fax utility not adding files to job.

2007-10-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
The problem is for sure not an AppArmor problem, it occurs the same way
after doing sudo aa-complain cupsd.

If someone else has tried this, please get to the original state with

sudo aa-enforce cupsd

[Bug 153152] Re: Fax utility not adding files to job.

2007-10-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
here we go, my error_log is below. It seems that a pointer with the path
for the temporary file is NULL (Unable to open Fax output file -
(null)/hplipfax20071016171612.g3 for writing). Perhaps I do not have
some environment variable which one normally has with Red Hat/Fedora (I
use Ubuntu).

In addition to fix this, I suggest also to do the following:

1. Let hp-sendfax observe the file conversion process, and report an
error if the process dies, instead of falling into an infinite loop.

2. Check whether the system provides the cupsfilter command of CUPS
1.3.x. Then you can do the file conversion without involving CUPS,
completely running as the calling user. This improves security a lot and
keeps hp-sendfax with full control over the conversion process. But do
not remove the old send a CUPS job method, to support the users of
older CUPS versions. See man cupsfilter for more info.

To make it print, it is necessary to issue the aa-compain cupsys after
 each restart of the PC.

Many thanks for your efforts, looking forward to test the fixed bug!

Sorry for bothering you again, but I just noticed another problem,
which I think it's related. That printer was shared on the network
through Samba:

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = yes
writable = no
guest ok = no
public = no
printable = yes
share modes = no
locking = no

I just noticed that both my Mac and Windows box cannot see it anymore
(while I can still happily browse the shared folders on the same Gutsy
box). Could it still be related to CUPS?

[Bug 153139] Re: oem-config-firstboot wizard bugs

2007-10-16 Thread Colin Watson
There simply is no keymap for Chinese in xkeyboard-config; it was the
same in Feisty. Chinese defaults to the US keymap.

There is a keymap for Chinese in xkeyboard-config upstream now:

  http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-
config/symbols/cn?revision=1.1view=markup

However, we'd need to pull in a new upstream version in order to get
this, and since the basic variant is just the same as the US keymap
anyway, I don't really see that it buys us very much; it's purely a
cosmetic issue. This doesn't seem to be release-critical for us.

I acknowledge the Step bug; somebody else reported this as well.
Unfortunately we've already locked down the archive for release, so it
may be too late to fix this now.

[Bug 152955] Re: can't create shortcut to my home folder

2007-10-16 Thread Stephen Gornick
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 48025 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48025

This is a duplicate of is Bug #48025.

Here's how to resolve your issue:

- Add Gnome Configuration Editor to your start menu (if you haven't yet):
System - Preferences - Main Menu

This will launch the program Alacarte.

  Then select
 Applications - System Tools
Then click on Show checkbox next to
Configuration Editor
   Close Alacarte.

You will now have a System Tools menu option on your Main Menu.

- Run Gnome Configuration Editor
  System Tools - Configuration Editor

Set the home_icon to be visible:
apps - nautilus - desktop
Mark the checkbox next to home_icon_visible
  Close Gnome Configuration Editor

You will now have an icon named [username]'s Home on your desktop

In http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=288534 Mr. Max.Durden has

[Bug 153348] xrandr - screen rotation not working properley - seems like screen resolution is not changed, but orientation is

2007-10-16 Thread smurtguy
Public bug reported:

This is the converse of bug #111859

The screen orientation changes correctly, but the resolution does not
So on a display oriented for 1050x1400, the resolution remains 1400x1050

This is in Gutsy. and includes all updates as 2007-10-16 02:00

It only happens to me while using KDE.

here are some details
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=574295

unfortunately there are not that many here. I am willing to provide
whatever is needed, but I am unsure of how to diagnose the cause for
this sort of issue.

Running Gutsy
Restricted nvidia driver
nvidia card 5200
tablet pc - toshiba portege m200
does not occur under XFCE or Gnome (for me at least)
does occur in KDE

if the xserver is completely restarted it will work correctly in the new
orientation

basically all the window functions - maximize ect, and any information reported
to applications
seems to report the unchanged resolution,
but windows can be placed in the dead area, or even extended into it, but
only manually.
maximize for example will still set the size to the old resolution

[Bug 139062] Re: Gutsy Tribe5: Startup reports: cman_tool: aisexec daemon didn't start

2007-10-16 Thread P.-A.
I confirm the bug is still here on amd64.

I've process the way Herbert describes changing 'CFLAGS += -O3 -Wall
to CFLAGS += -O0 -Wall in the Makefile.inc and then rebuilding the
package.

I don't know if it's a normal behavior but openais must remain shutdown before
starting cman (cman runs openais itself):
/etc/init.d/openais stop
/etc/init.d/cman start

[Bug 152179] Re: Gnome desktop resolution incorrect

2007-10-16 Thread Wolf Rogner
Thanks for the link. I have checked these links and they describe the
default way to install fglrx. But as I mentioned in my previous post:
This does not work.

I presume you are right with: My card is not recognized.
So: How can I make it get recognized.

There is another issue and I think this is more serious: Gnome and Xorg
are out of sync. I used to be able to set screen and card configurations
in xorg.conf. I am not any more.

Maybe it has something to do with the module that tries to be smart. It
always reverts to 1400x1050 / vesa.

[Bug 153355] No sound and CD-Rom on fast thin client

2007-10-16 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

It seems that my thin client (Core2Duo 2.0Ghz) is a bit to fast to boot and
that when reaching the point where the cdpinger and pulseaudio should be
started /dev/dsp and /dev/cdrom don't yet exist.
The best fix would be to wait for udev to finish creating the different devices
before running the ltsp script.
A workaround is to add a sleep 1 in the initrd script which then give enough
time to udev to do its job.

[Bug 139433] Re: kmail IMAP groupware functionality no longer working

2007-10-16 Thread Re Persina
Here is my scenario: I have two machines, both were running Edgy with
kmail 1.9.6, and both were configured for groupware folders/imap
resources. I have upgraded only one machine to Gutsy, now using kmail
1.9.6 (enterprise 0.20070907.709405). After the upgrade the Gutsy
machine has the problem described in this bug.

One point of interest, before attempting the workaround here, I compared
kmailrc on the Edgy machine and the Gutsy machine, and the [IMAP
Resource] sections were exactly the same (except for the account ID's of
course):

[IMAP Resource]
TheIMAPResourceEnabled=true
TheIMAPResourceFolderParent=.1869991014.directory/INBOX

In Edgy, the groupware folders still work fine, without a
TheIMAPResourceAccount= line.

On the Gutsy machine I tried the workaround; manually adding the
TheIMAPResourceAccount=accountid
After restarting kontact/kmail, I get the following prompt:
KMail will now create the required groupware folders as subfolders of INBOX;
if you do not want this, cancel and the IMAP resource will be disabled

If I say yes/Continue, then the empty Contacts, Cal folders etc. show up
in the [cached/disconnected] IMAP acct with the icons indicating they
are associated with Contacts, etc. BUT when I try to sync the cached
IMAP acct with the server, it fails (Error while uploading folder Could
not make the folder on the server...) because the folders already
exist on the server (and are full of data) so it cannot create them
again, and so it will not sync the existing data either.

If I say Cancel to the Kmail will now create the required groupware
folders prompt, then, as it promised, it disables the groupware
functionality and unsets TheIMAPResourceEnabled=true in kmailrc. If I
manually reset this value in kmailrc and restart kontact, it gives me
the same KMail will now create the required groupware folders
prompt.

So the workaround does not work here.

[Bug 152737] Re: [Gutsy] installer crashed twice (LiveCD)

2007-10-16 Thread Pjotr12345
Here is /var/log/syslog (see attachment). In the next message, I will
attach /var/log/installer/debug (how does one attach more than one
file?).

This time, I used the daily build of the LiveCD, of today, October 16.
Only one crash this time, right at the end (no Grub installed).

[Bug 145810] Re: azureus crashes when trying to 'show details'

2007-10-16 Thread Liang Zhao
I came across this problem, too.

It is crashed because An unexpected error has been detected by Java
Runtime Environment:. The JRE I was running is Java 6.0 64-Bit Edition.
Since Azureus and JRE 6.0 work fine under Feisty.

I guess here must be some problems with Java Runtime package.

Here is an attachment from .azureus in my home folder.

Re: [Bug 153339] tracker-stats says GaimConversations, should say PidginConversations

2007-10-16 Thread Michael Biebl
2007/10/16, afoglia [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Public bug reported:

 Binary package hint: tracker

Quite simply, the tracker-stats program prints out the number of
GaimConversations. Considering that as of Gutsy, Gaim has been
renamed Pidgin, that line be patched to say PidginConversations.

If it is going to be renamed, I'd suggest for naming it
PurpleConversations, as that seems to be the internal storage format.

2007-10-16 Thread dbrobert
The linux-backports-module-386 package won't work if you've deleted the
snd-hda-intel directory in the
/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/ubuntu/media/ directory, which you would
have needed to do if you've been compiling the alsa-driver manually.
You'll need to either restore that directory (if you've kept it
somewhere) or re-install the package that provides snd-hda-intel (I
don't know the package name off hand).

[Bug 153350] prism54 does not work - need to use p54pci and p54common

2007-10-16 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

This bug isn't actually new. It has been hanging around for some ubuntu
versions.

The network card listed as Intersil Corporation ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism
Xbow] (rev 01) does not work out of box with ubuntu.

Adding:

rmmod prism54
rmmod p54usb
modprobe p54pci
modprobe p54common

to /etc/init.d/bootmist.sh makes the network suddenly work.

The same happened to feisty (look bug 138979 and others), however at
that time the modules were called prism54pci and prism54common, (notice
the change from prism54 to p54).

I don't know why prism54, and not p54xxx, is enabled, as it never
worked. I had some other network dongles and cards, and I always had to
do the same.

[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

2007-10-16 Thread AaronT
I would just like to add if not already known that my laptop, a Dell
Inspiron 1501 (w/Radeon Xpress) embedded video card and Ubuntu 7.10 will
not enter or resume from standby or hibernate. This bug unfortunately,
if not fixed will ultimately force me to revert back to 7.04 because as
a student in school, I need my laptop to enter and resume from standby
or hibernate throughout the day.

I would like to know if any other Inspiron 1501 users have the same
issue.

[Bug 153359] E: /var/cache/apt/archives/virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-14-generic_6_i386.deb: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2007-10-16 Thread ryanb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-14-generic

This update will not install. I get the error:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/virtualbox-ose-

I installed originally using the following URL:

I tried to modprobe -r the vboxdrv module, but that doesn't make any

[Bug 153161] Re: [Gutsy] Dependency Problems on Dovecot

2007-10-16 Thread asommer
I don't currently have a development environment setup, or I'd post a
debdiff file, but here's a diff for dovecot-common.postinst that may
take care of the file missing issue. Justed added a if [ -e $conffile ]
to the for loop wrapping the ucf and ucfr statements. I think that will
work?

Thought I'd take a crack at it anyway.

Thanks Mathias

[Bug 153152] Re: Fax utility not adding files to job.

2007-10-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is really strange, /usr/bin/hpijs is causing the error. See
prnt/hpijs/hpijsfax.cpp. It tries to write the mentioned file into
TMPDIR (environment variable set by CUPS according to error_log), but
the getenv(TMPDIR) in line 300 of prnt/hpijs/hpijsfax.cpp returns
NULL. Why does HPIJS write into a file? Is it not supposed to return its
output to Ghostscript and the CUPS backend hpfax writing the file?
What is hpfax good for then?

[Bug 153027] Re: can't mount secondary sata drive

2007-10-16 Thread Jan Pfeifer
Found the problem: EVMS was moving, or acquiring the /dev/sdb1 device,
and creating another node under /dev/evms/sdb1.

I'm not sure if i had EVMS installed under Feisty, but either upgrading
it to Gusty or having it installed when upgrading to Gusty triggered the
problem.

Took me almost an hour (rebooting the machine) to find out the problem,
and i have quite a good understanding of linux. Others might be left at
a total loss. So I would strongly suggest that the EVMS package first
check /etc/fstab for the partitions it takes over, before it moves it
for somewhere else. And either avoid taking over them in that case, or
printing warning messages with the problem.

Is there a way to move this bug from linux-source-2.6.22 to evms ?

Thanks a lot!!! Sorry for the wrong classification of the bug -- i
didn't know then.

[Bug 136504] Re: Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)

2007-10-16 Thread Ken B
The patch that Michael mentioned (and has since been issued as an
upgrade in the repositories) fixed the issue for me as well.

I really didn't think this bug would be fixed before Gutsy went gold.
Yet another reason why Ubuntu is amaziing.

Thanks for the heads up too, Michael.

Also, is there some way I need to close this and mark it as resolved, or
does a dev need to do it?

** Description changed:

+ UPDATE: This bug has since been fixed and an update issued. The latest
NetworkManager will correct the issue.
+ For details:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/baltix/+source/knetworkmanager/+bug/50214
+
Ubuntu is unable to connect to any SSID that's hidden, no matter whether
it's open, uses WPA, or any combination of factors relating to network
configuration (tested on university's WPA enterprise, WPA2 personal on
  router, and open, unencrypted APs).

This has been attempted in Gutsy with the latest updates and using an
Intel 4965 AGN wifi card through both the standard network configuration
  tool as well as NetworkManager.

As soon as SSID broadcasting is enabled, all works well. Otherwise, it
starts to connect (green status lights in nm-applet) and indicates in
the tooltip that it's connecting to the designated network, but upon
completion, is actually connected to another AP (or it freezes on the
  connecting stage and eventually fails).

This is all manual, naturally, as I don't expect nm-applet to
  automatically connect to hidden networks.

This is my first bug report, so please let me know if there's any other
  information I can provide.
