[Bug 154211] Kubuntu ( Gutsy ) KDE Menu Improperly Formatted - Default Install

2007-10-19 Thread Alex Marz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

After installing Kubuntu it appears that the default Kmenu entries are
not formatted properly. This issue occurred when I installed the RC but
I suspected it was a bug and left it alone. It appears as tho this
problem remains in today's final release. There were no changes made to
the system in question after the default install.

My hardware is as follows

Computer: Dell XPS 710
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz
Monitors: Dell 2407WPF 2407WPFHC
Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800 GTX

[Bug 154207] Wired internet connection does not start at boot.

2007-10-19 Thread bclintbe
Public bug reported:

Running regular 7.10 ( 2.6.22-14-generic) on a AMD64 computer (don't
want to use the 64-bit version of Ubuntu for reasons like flash) ,
onboard NIC using the forcedeth driver.

I seem to be having intermittent problems with my wired connection since
switching to 7.10. Sometimes my wired connection just does not start at
boot up. From where I sit I can see my router, and on these occasions no
lights for that wired connection. When I log in to Ubuntu, no internet
connection (the icon shows no wired connection).

If I do a hard boot, sometimes the connection starts at bootup, and
everything's fine when I log in. Sometimes the hard boot doesn't help.

The connection worked fine before 7.10, and I have tried different
cables, restarting the router, etc. I still get these random failures to
even recognize the connection at boot up. Everything works fine when I'm
not using Ubuntu 7.10. One thing that did work once was unplugging and
replugging in to the NIC after logging in to Ubuntu. Viola, router
lights come on and I have a connection.

If there's any more info I can give, please let me know, as I'd like to
get this resolved.

[Bug 22048] Re: screen lock button no longer locks screen

2007-10-19 Thread Cristian KLEIN
Hi,

It seems that Gutsy uses gnome-screensaver (please correct me if I'm
wrong), but the /usr/share/acpi-support/screenblank still uses
xscreensaver.

I also observed that /etc/acpi-support/lid.sh stops after CheckPolicy.

Commenting out the CheckPolicy line and replacing xscreensaver with
gnome-screensaver makes screen locking work again.

Is my fix okey, or is there some other mechanism which is supposed to
lock the screen when the lid is closed?

This problem is existing right now for me in Gutsy final (running the

icon (added manually) shows stuff in the trash. I deleted some items
from an external drive, and they show up correctly in Nautilus. I also
deleted local files and the trash applet showed no trash. When you
right-click on it, it still shows no trash, and there's no way to empty
the trash (it's just greyed out). If you right click on the applet and

In Gutsy's release (using LiveCD as well as installation), DWL-520+ with
the ACX100 module works fine with manual configuration, whereas with
NetworkManager, a kernel panic (oops) is induced.

I really can't get any version of ndiswrapper to work with my ACX100 (D-Link
DWL-520+) card. It used to work well for Feisty, and worked for Ubuntu Gutsy
Tribe 5 LiveCD as well. However, recently none of the versions work. They can
detect the network, but they won't associate. When I check my dmesg log, it
shows this:
[ 95.563443] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

Some extra information: My network has a hidden SSID and is WEP

[Bug 154254] NetworkManager causes high CPU-usage after suspend

[Bug 154255] Lenovo ThinkPad T60 cant boot from 7.10 desktop-cd

2007-10-19 Thread Pekka Panula
Public bug reported:

I have this IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T60, it has ATI X1400 display adapter.

I cant boot using Gutsy (7.10) live-cd as graphical desktop does not

(safemode), and mode seems to be something like 40x24 textmode.

It seems Gutsy is trying to launch x.org but it always fails. I have
tried to use failsafe -option but it does not help, no graphical
desktop, just blank screen, but machine is not crashed, it just cant
launch x.org for some unknown reason.

[Bug 133020] Re: vmware server

2007-10-19 Thread Marko Djukic
Yes, I've seen this as well in the Gutsy final release I just upgraded
to last night. vmware-server 1.0.3 will not run in Gutsy because of the
kernel modules mismatch.

Workaround:
1. Back up your license file found in: /etc/vmware/license.vs.1.0-00 or at
least save the serial contained in that file somewhere.
2. Uninstall vmware-server 1.0.3 including purging all configuration.
3. Make sure you have the package build-essential
4. Download vmware-server 1.0.4 directly from http://vmware.com/download/server/
5. Unpack and run vmware-install.pl, usually it is fine to accept all defaults,
and enter the license key from step 1.

and you should be back up and running.

[Bug 147811] Re: Ubuntu 7.10 Wireless Interface WEP password login problem with Asus WL-167G Usb Wlan Adapter

2007-10-19 Thread Tommy
Just posting to say I'm having the same issue. Occasionally network-
manager reports that a connection has been made, but no internet apps
work. Sometimes iconfig reports that it has an Access-Point, sometimes
not.

'netstat -nr' always gives a blank output except when I try to set up
the network with a static address, but the result is always the same -
no actual network activity.

I dual-boot with Windows and the card works fine (in fact I'm using
Windows now to post this :( ).

I've tried various solutions - disabling avahi and setting up DNS
myself, changing the Mode of the card etc - nothing works, and the
results are invariably the same: I can see the network, and supposedly
connect to it, but nothing past that - no useful network activity.
