Well this still hasn't been fixed for all hardware. My 3c589D pcmcia

confirmation from nm-applet.

[Bug 159401] Re: Inbox shows no messages - inbox is not empty

2007-11-15 Thread Antti P Miettinen
I just made a fresh gutsy install. I'm using the evolution-exchange to
connect to my exchange inbox. For me the exchange inbox started showing
empty very shortly after I had configured my account. I cleared avay my
~/.evolution directory and this made the messages in inbox visible
again, but they disappeared again (probably upon the first new mail
check?). After this I only cleared the ~/.evolution/mail/exchange
directory and so far the messages in my inbox have remained visible.

Re: [Bug 156642] Re: active dvi freezes when viewing a dvi file with embedded eps image

2007-11-15 Thread Vu Ngoc San
Thanks a lot for this fix ! It should be easy to fix it in the sources,
too.

However there are still some problems. It seems that postscript specials are
not executed. I keep having error messages like this one:

Warning: Sys_error(Bad file descriptor)
Warning: GS Terminated

and the postscript decoration of my background is not displayed at all.

Le Wednesday 14 November 2007 13:36:17 vpadawan, vous avez écrit :
I had exactly the same problem using advi with whizzytex. It seems to
come from a faulty call to gs: when advi freezes, the gs entry in the
process list looks like this :

 ... /usr/bin/gs -dNOPLATFONTS -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=x11 -q -dDELAYSAFER -

As you can see, there's an extra minus sign at the end of the command,
probably coming from an incorrectly erased option in the source code. I
didn't want to debug or recompile advi, so I used this dirty little trick
instead : - install an hex editor such as ghex
 - just in case, make a copy of /usr/bin/advi
 - edit the binary file advi.
 - look for an occurrence of DELAYSAFER, followed by an occurrence of a
minus sign. In advi 1.6.0-12 (ubuntu 7.10), I found this occurrence near
 0x001610b7 :

 this value with 0x20 (space).

Re: [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2007-11-15 Thread Nemes Ioan Sorin
This is a good point of view
but only one face of the problem (1000 left...).

The central point here is not to ask average users to read Dostoievsky,
or Hesse or Aitmatov - but to convince system integrators and computer
vendors to read Dostoievsky because they can (and they are the
difference not this large mass of Joe Doe).

At this point - they can put a linux Flavor on each computer - for a
better price per system but they are afraid about client reactions like
- I can't install MSOffice on my new computer !!!... (and examples
can continue).

I see that here - a friend call me to see why he can not install
MSOffice - he buy a computer with Ubuntu - and he dont' know he has
Linux - he's only problem was why he can easy install MSOffice on his
old computer - but on the new computer he can't.

I realize that the computer vendors don't know [Computer + Ubuntu +
Crossover Office] are less expensive than [Computer + MSWindows].

In fact computer vendors don't know too much about Crossover Office,
they don't test it to obtain a reliable solution - so we have to
contact/help/encourage computer vendors to implement this better solution.

Here we need to put the big focus - else... convincing every single
people will take 1000 years probably.

The only people I hear complaining are Linux geeks.
The average user thinks Windows is freeware. They are totally unaware
that the cost of their computer includes the cost of Windows. If you don't

Exactly - ignorance is bliss... and ignorant people tend not to

Nor do they appreciate elitist snobs telling them what they should or

[Bug 162853] evolution email address autocomplete is broken after compose window is moved

2007-11-15 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Gutsy, evolution2.12.0-0ubuntu5. In the compose window, autocompletion
of email addresses in the to: entry field stops working properly after
the compose window is moved. If I enter the email address before moving
the window, it works properly.

To reproduce (hopefully) :

Select 'New' email. Move new compose window with mouse. Start to enter
an email address that is ambiguous in first 2-3 characters.

Behavior seen:

After the first couple of characters, autocomplete selects one of the
matching addresses immediately, not allowing user to select from
potential matches.

[Bug 102910] Re: [need-packaging] TV-Browser

2007-11-15 Thread Daniel Holbach
- packaging changes contains debian/patched/10_start_script_working_dir.dpatch
and deployment/linux/tvbrowser.sh - broken unpatch rule?
- debian/copyright incomplete, no authors and no copyright holders
- some files don't contain copyright header, but there's at least
./txt/LICENSE.txt

Not buildable without user interaction:

Unpacking sun-java5-bin (from .../sun-
java5-bin_1.5.0-13-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb) ...

sun-dlj-v1-1 license could not be presented
try 'dpkg-reconfigure debconf' to select a frontend other than noninteractive

:-(

Upstream issues, probably worth talking to the author:
- ./images/themes/tango looks like copied from tango, is there no possibilty to
use the icons we have in the archive already? (not mentioned in copyright
either)
- ./deployment/x11/autom4te.cache probably not necessary in the shipped tarball

2007-11-15 Thread Dany Martineau
If you use the linuxant driver, try the generic package with source. It
simply works with any kernel. You'll find it here:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads.php
Take the one in DPKG format. Uninstall the other one before using the generic
one. Folow the instructions and reboot. It worked for me when i was using
ubuntu with generic kernel in the past.

You also asked about recent distribution that works out of the box for the
toshiba P100. Mandriva 2008 and Opensuse 10.3 works very well as they use
kernel 2.6.22, so there is sound!. Modem also works with those distro. I
tried both and found them as easy as ubuntu to use. Opensuse takes a long
time to install, but mandriva is pretty straigtfoward to install.

Good luck!

[Bug 44013] Re: Umlaut-errors with copypaste copying from Konqueror to OpenOffice

2007-11-15 Thread Le Torbi
Just some additional info:

I've just tested cutpaste from Firefox to OpenOffice and everthings
works fine. It makes no difference which option I choose at Preferences
- Content - Fonts Colors - Advanced - Default Character Encoding,
it works with Western (ISO 8859-15) as well as with Unicode (UTF-8).
So the problem seems to be Konqueror...

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2007-11-15 Thread Jakob Malm
Switching off the animations plugin did NOT solve it. I've had two
freezes since my post above. One was when I moved my mouse to the close
button on a window title bar. When the tool tip came up X froze. So I
turned off the plugin Tonande fönster in Swedish. It makes windows
smoothly appear and disappear.

It then froze again, when Bluefish was started, exactly when the splash
window opened up.

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-11-15 Thread sweetsinse
ok.

i have been restarting my computer all day testing different
configurations and looking at many, many...many post-gdm bootcharts...
in fact i triggered 2 'force checks' on my laptop so i rebooted at least
60 times haha

anyway, i have a few interesting things to report. i am running Gutsy
final with all updates as of 10 minutes ago.

before i say anything about compiz/etc., i wanted to ask/point out a few
things.

first, while looking into this problem i noticed others having their gui
desktop completely freeze after enabling/disabling certain startup apps
and then attempting to press the logout button; additionally, some
experienced this after mysterious errors earlier in the day but did not
notice a problem until they tried to log out. i encountered this very
thing when attempting to barebone my session down to essentials and
pinpoint this 'slow' boot reason. i disabled all plugins to compiz
using CCSM, except 'dbus' and 'workarounds'--additionally i disabled ALL
startup options in PreferencesSessions (i will brief upon another
possible bug regarding this in a moment). under this config i still got
a brief moment (always2sec) of gnome-panels before everything goes
black for 15-20 seconds. HOWEVER, when i tried to reboot using the
logout button, my computer locked up. the source of the problem was due
to 'Power Manager' being disabled in PreferencesSessions. my guess is
the logout button is trying to query said program to try and determine
if 'hibernate' or 'suspend' should be an available option on the logout
screen. this bug is reproducible simply by disabling 'Power Manager'
under PreferencesSessions, rebooting, and attempting to log out using
the gui button.

second, even though i had disabled ALL startup apps except 'Power
Manager' , bootcharts would sometimes show these apps initiating. this
may have been because i hard reset my laptop the time before because of
the logout bug i described above. also i could not figure out how to
disable the deskbar applet at all, but i am confident this has nothing
to do with our issues.

third, not related but someone might want to file a bug rep. in the
appropriate place, nm-applet will occasionally place the 'Wireless key
needed' dialog on the desktop of another user logged in, instead of the
current user. i was logged in as a regular/desktop user and the dialog
appeared on the poweruser that was logged in. i had to switch users to
enter the WEP key.

fourth, i noticed this EVERY time in compiz and only once with metacity;
xsession will try and initialize gnome-volume-manager and gnome-power-manager
only to by terminated within less than a second and reinitialized by either
init or getty. bootchart:
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/compizdbus-workarounds-pwrMAN-slow_a.png
which leads to my final ?'ion.

fifth, why do some bootcharts show init starting many gnome-* apps, and other
show getty? i viewed subsequent charts and there appeared to be no reason for
the swapping...not sure the repercussions of this. lastly,
gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-vfs-daemon will sometimes be initialized by
dbus-daemon, other times by getty, and still others by init... does this even
matter? this behaving was very sporadic in compiz but very consistent with
metacity. some bootcharts:
metacity:
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/metacity-pwrMAN-quick_and_nofreeze.png
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/metacity-noapps-quick_but_freeze.png
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/gutsy-20071115-2.png
compiz:
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/compizdefault_plugins-pwrMAN-slow_an.png
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/gutsy-20071115-7.png
(see bootchart @ #4)

IN SHORT(kinda): i discovered many others to be having problems with the
ubuntu package of compiz. i think the wrapper script 'compiz' is
sending the wrong params to 'compiz.real'. i had no problems whatsoever
when using metacity, with the exception of the logout bug, but that is
independent of the window manager. all bootcharts showed the same boot
times for both metacity and compiz (compiz a few sec longer for obvious
reasons). basically, all my apps were loading and my desktop was
there, i just couldnt see it until something 'snapped' it back, about
the time it was completely loaded. the reason the gnome-panels showed
for a brief period was because the window manager (compiz.real) had not
yet been started. notice on that bootchart above, compiz.real starts
less than 2 seconds after gnome-panel. i think this may be the problem
for everyones 'slow startup'. its not really slow, compiz.real is being
mis configured by the wrapper script (compiz) or something along that
line, and the gui environment is temporarily killed when compiz.real is
actualy initiated.

sorry for the lengthy post; i want to solve this ;)

Follow up on the previous note, that didn't help.

As near as I can tell, it is when pcmcia is modprobed. The only command
of consequence I saw in 85-pcmcia was modprobe pcmcia, in the kernel
panic screenshots we see it panics during a modprobe. Does ubuntu have
any kernel patches that affect this portion of the kernel?

[Bug 41134] Re: Does not store WPA-Enterprise password in keyring

I can confirm this behaviour too. My wireless WPA Enterprise connection
data are stored in plaintext in the gconf-edior and every time I get
disconnected, I have to insert my login data (username, password, no
certificate) again.

I am using the Gutsy network-manager 0.6.5-ubuntu16. I also have the
same problem as the DickeyWang reportet with the bug #124336 (with
iw3945).

This bug exists since Festy and is in my opinion a security risk and
very anoying! This should be fixed asap!

difference

I blacklisted both ranges independently, but neither seems to make a difference

[Bug 121415] Re: [gutsy] ipw3945-based wireless doesn't work after booting with wireless switch off

2007-11-15 Thread tiwag
Same problem with a Dell Latitude d820, with ipw3945-wireless.

When booting with hardware switch on network interface is recognized, and if
I kill the wireless Nm-applet displays the no signal icon.
After I reset the switch it doesn't do anything.
I had never some random disconnections

After resuming from hibernation with kill-switch on (wireless off)
a reboot is required to make the interface work again.

Please increase bug priority, this problem is a showstopper.

[Bug 95817] Re: Feisty's Kernel Panics With Netgear MA401 PCMCIA Wireless Installed

2007-11-15 Thread dlublink
The computer, HP Compaq NX9030 does not have a serial port. Do the 64
bit machines you tested have a serial port?
