[Bug 164640] Apply subpixel rendering patch to cairo

2007-11-22 Thread Matvey Kozhev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

In Ubuntu 7.10 and newer, Firefox 3.0 looks out of place with subpixel
rendering enabled, due to the fact that it uses an unpatched, bundled
version of Cairo.

The patch should be ported to Cairo 1.5 and applied in the firefox-3.0
package.

[Bug 147560] Re: Kernel detects battery management wrong (MSI PR200 / System76)

2007-11-22 Thread impact
I have added an attachment that shows the g-p-m setting I use. On the
left is the AC- adapter window, on the right is the battery window. With
these settings and LCD brightness set to 100 percent (use the gnome
brightness applet with the slider moved all the way up/your Fn keys),
g-p-m will not try to change the screen brightness and won't steal mouse
focus from full screen games.

2007-11-22 Thread Till Kamppeter
system-config-printer (0.7.78+svn1740-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
 o Subversion snapshot r1740
o Do not require PNG format for desktop icons (LP: #152634)
o Applet: Throttle the rate of checking for jobs or error messages when in
start-up mode. This prevents the applet being a nuisance when a large
number of CUPS administration operations are performed in a batch.
o Be more tolerant on failures to obtain printer info from CUPS.
o Better check for whether the CUPS server is local.
o Better methods to find default printer.
o Applet: Allow the tray icon to reappear on the next print job when the
user has hidden the applet icon with right-click -> "Hide" (LP: #156816).
o Applet: Hide icon automatically when print job ends (LP: #151360).

[Bug 152452] Re: Wireless signal strength always at 0%

2007-11-22 Thread Rodney Lorrimar
Hi, what is the contents of your /proc/net/wireless? I have the same
problem with an rt61. It's probably because the wireless driver reports
0 link quality. I have only tried this on gutsy, not any previous
releases.

[Bug 154095] Re: No internet removes All download repositories sources [ 82% ]

2007-11-22 Thread leexgx
thats to bad realy, all it seem sit needs an miner update even if its not noted
as an .1 rels
as all that needs doing is it Not remove the repositories when it fails thats
all do not see the problem in that as it makes problems for new users (brakes
add/remove as well)
or Do not download the repositories full stop when installing ubuntu do it
after (as when gusty came out all mirrors was hammered with users downloading
then Hammered agane when thay install ubuntu on an Active internet connection
as it downloads 6/9MB when connected)

you realy should give an Big warning about this when installing Gusty or
just tell them to use Festy for now untill Hardy (8.04) is out as this
is probly the worst ubuntu rels ever as past ubuntus i have never had
problems with allso bundling it with stuff thats is unstable as well
(apart from buttons not click-able untill you move your mouse off them
and not and still not been able to play Winamp audio streams all the
time {streams still an problem})

i should of tested 7.10 alot more as i could of brought this up alot
sooner as it was noted more then 2-3 months before that this bug was
present

--
you need to update the help files any way for gusty {make sure thay read it
before makeing the mestake of brakeing there setup} (Reword to tidey up) as i
guess its unlikey there is going to be an 7.10.1 disk
---
Due to problems in the live CD in Gusty 7.10 its recommended that the Internet
is Unpluged from the PC when doing and upgrade/fresh install as it may fail,
before doing upgrades allways make sure you back up your home folder (you
should back up to an ext hdd offen any way)
when installing fresh or upgrading when no internet is off you got an error (
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10060723/apt%20bug%20live%20cd%20installer%207.10%20all.PNG
but croped {just the error box only} ) once ubuntu has been installed you need
to turn the repositories back on (you will need to do this to make sure you get
securtiy updates and make Add/Remove work)

Ubuntu users
After install goto System > Admin > software sources

1. Tick all box's apart form source code (do not think norm users need that)
2. Pick your Download From server location (as it picks main server by default
click on search if you cant see one for you)
3. Goto updates and tick the first 2 options
4. [Optional] change the auto up date check to [Download all updates in
background] (assuming you do not have an hard disk that is very small its an
better option so your ready to install when you are ready just means you do not
need to have to wait for them to download)
do not recommend auto install with out confirmation as it may not wait for all
updates to be install when shutting down the PC, as it make brake your box

Kbuntu users
Cick on the K bottem left > System (Not system setting) > Adept Package Manager
> Adept (top left text)> Manage Repositories
then do the same as ubuntu for steps 2 to 4

[Bug 47649] When will this be fixed?

2007-11-22 Thread Casey Finnerty
I am also experiencing this bug in kpdf and acroread, with a variety of
pdf documents on two printers connected to a box with a 64-bit install
of Kubuntu Gutsy. I don't seem to remember this problem occurring in
Feisty, but I could be wrong based on what I read on this page.
Landscape printing also fails on .odt documents printed in KWord and OOo
Writer.

Any idea when this bug will be fixed? I frequently need to print
landscape mode, so this bug is quite annoying. I am considering a move
to SimplyMEPIS in the hope of eliminating this problem.

The way around the choppy video is to switch the video player to using

[Bug 84537] Re: sysctl.conf, net.ipv4.conf.default.forwarding, race condition?

2007-11-22 Thread Kir Kolyshkin
To Edmunds Kalniņš, Eelko van Breda:

What happens if you just set

 net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

in /etc/sysctl.conf, and run sysctl -p?

To me, the bug looks like a mistype in default /etc/sysctl.conf (i.e.
wrong setting).

Say, here's the relevant section from Fedora 8:
 # Controls IP packet forwarding
 net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0

And this is from Gentoo 2007.0:
 # Disables packet forwarding
 #net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0

[Bug 134680] Re: Sleep and Hibernate issues in Gutsy on Thinkpad x41

2007-11-22 Thread Jessie
Sleep and Hibernate did not work well in Feisty. I had done SOMETHING to make
Hibernate work in Feisty.
Since upgrading to Gutsy, neither works no matter who's instructions I follow
in attempt to make it work. Sleep never resumes and hibernate hangs with a
black screen. Gutsy is always kept up to date on my PC.
This machine DID have an issue with S3 in Windows, however, S1 worked
perfectly, and hibernate also worked perfectly in Windows.

Feisty fails to sleep on my other PC as well. Seems to be a Ubuntu
issue, not so much a hardware issue.

Given that the Debian maintainer has said he'd fix this and there is not

If they'd done it that way, it'd be a bug. System provided packages should be
used whenever possible to avoid duplicate code maintenance. It may just be
that one of them needs to be updated.

[Bug 164630] RTL8139 fails after 7.10 upgrade

[Bug 155032] Re: kdesu ownership change

2007-11-22 Thread gogh
I confirm that I have the same no_root_squash behaviour. Mounting my
home this way granted access to kdesu. BUT, I don't think that this is a
fix. Using no_root_squash introduce serious security problems and I
don't want to mount my filesystems that way. Anyway, I didn't change nor
update my NFS server recently and the upgrade was on the client side
only. Feisty client was ok with the root_squash, not Gutsy.

Whatever... You've got two separate attachments that resolve the issue.
I'm sorry you don't have what you want. Maybe you should dumb down the

work with... out of the box... in an examples directory.

[Bug 164269] Re: [Gutsy] Grub takes time to load

2007-11-22 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Thanks for confirming this.

I think that one computer piece doesn't work. Maybe you can try to find
that piece ( it can be your old 56k modem card, your audio card, your
floppy disk reader, your CD burner. If you find something that doesn't
work on your computer, most probably that it is the bad part that make
your BIOS wait 1-2 minutes at each boot.

If you assume that you have required knowledge, you can also test your computer
with tools inside the UBCD
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ ( note : I take no responsibility of what you
can do with this advanced CD, but if you use it well, it can greatly help you ).

Hope it helps :)

[Bug 155032] Re: kdesu ownership change

2007-11-22 Thread Brian Buchanan
I thought I had bug 144722 today, but it turned out to be a NFS
permission problem. /home was exported without no_root_squash i.e.
root_squash was in effect. (I was also using NFS4, fyi) I believe that
this situation would prevent the sudo (or kdesudo) process from having
access to the root owned files, such as
~/.kde/share/config/adept_updaterrc. I set no_root_squash on the
export, remounted and my problem was solved.

[Bug 164244] Re: Gutsy install keyboard doesn't work/hangs at "Running local boot scripts"

2007-11-22 Thread theluddite
Well, it seems like my problem was with the Gutsy live CD. For whatever
reason, my hardware didn't like Ubuntu or Kubuntu 7.1 or Suse 10.3 but
worked with Ubuntu 7.04 and Kubuntu 6.06.

I have a Dell Intel Core 2 Duo (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB), 2GB Dual
Channel DDR2 SDRAM, 300GB Serial ATA Hard Drive, 128MB ATI Radeon X1300.

It seems that this was specifically a problem with the live CD. I had
Feisty previously installed on this system and upgraded to Gutsy without
a problem.

[Bug 164627] lirc based applications can not get exclusive access to /dev/input interface

2007-11-22 Thread Márcio
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When i upgraded to Gutsy, my remote control stopped working thru
lirc (it still translates some events to the terminal and applications).
Today i took the night to discover the reason. On my syslog i found
this:

Nov 22 10:36:21 filho kernel: [ 62.706967] input: cx88 IR (PixelView PlayTV
Ultra as /class/input/input4
Nov 22 10:36:21 filho kernel: [ 62.707046] cx88[0]/0: found at :00:0b.0,
rev: 5, irq: 11, latency: 32, mmio: 0xe000
...
Nov 22 23:37:38 lircd-0.8.2-CVS[6052]: lircd(userspace) ready
Nov 22 23:47:53 lircd-0.8.2-CVS[6052]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
Nov 22 23:47:53 lircd-0.8.2-CVS[6052]: initializing

Nov 22 23:47:53 lircd-0.8.2-CVS[6052]: can't get exclusive access to
events comming from `/dev/input/by-path/pci-:00:0b.0--event-ir' interface

After googling a lot, i haven't found anything usefull about
exclusive access.

I thought it could be a competition between lirc and x.org, so i
stopped GDM, went to terminal and tried irw which worked!

I came back to gnome, tried sudo irw, which haven't worked.

I have tried installing lirc from feisty, and it give me the same
syslog messages. Switched back.

So, i have tried to boot on feisty kernell (2.6.20-16-generic) and
x.org worked with lirc from gutsy!

So, the problem seems to be related to the kernel.

Hope this helps you guys to find a suitable explanation.

OBS.: It seems that lots of changes have been made to the kernel...
firstly i can't boot the new kernel (i had to update the initramfs with
the ide-core and ide-generic modules) and now, lirc applications can't
get exclusive access to a interface.

thanks!

Re: [Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

2007-11-22 Thread roofone
I had choppy video when I did the express install. It works pretty well
after uninstalling and reinstalling manually with deb packages. I have a
mobility 9600.

Subject: [Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

I tried installing ATI Catalyst 7.11, but I get extremely choppy video.
Didn't even try to suspend/resume because something was obviously wrong.
I had the same problem when installing the previous version of ati's
driver. Anybody else have this kind of problem?

Debdiff between aptitude_0.4.8-1.dsc and aptitude_0.4.8-1ubuntu1.dsc .

A debdiff between aptitude_0.4.7-1ubuntu1.dsc and aptitude_0.4.8-1ubuntu1.dsc
is also available, but nears 9.1M in size.

[Bug 148487] Re: i can not update my thunderbird and can not download adds on

2007-11-22 Thread António Lima
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. If I understand, you are trying to update thunderbird
with the built-in thunderbird updater? This is deactivated in Ubuntu,
the updates come trough Update Manager. The current version of
Thunderbird in Gutsy's repositories is 2.0.0.8. The 2.0.0.9 version is
not yet available, but will provably be soon as an update. Thanks

[Bug 141281] Re: Pidgin + myspace im = freeze

2007-11-22 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Thanks for your bug report.

I installed the latest pidgin version 1:2.2.1-1ubuntu4 in Linux Ubuntu
Gutsy and I can't reproduce this problem. Can you also test this version
and confirm if you still have that issue?
