[Bug 158958] Re: After upgrade to Firefox 2.0.0.8. Form TEXT Boxes crash/close (no errors)

2007-12-20 Thread simonj2
I know this is a very old post, but I'm having the same problem, it's
also the problem as described here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3938155
http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread618077.html

It basically happens whenever I type a space in a textbox when running
my Ubuntu. Also, if I type something in that doesn't include a space, it
will crash when I submit the form relating to that text box. I've tried
reinstalling and it's still the same problem. It's firefox 2.0.0.11 and
it's Ubuntu-Fiesty. I also haven't installed any add ons or extensions
to firefox. There's also nothing in the crash folder (it's just empty).
Basically firefox just closes when it encounters this problem... It's
ubuntu 7.10 and it says Gutsy, but in firefox it says Fiesty. As you can
tell I'm a n00b :)

[Bug 177600] Re: Can't Empty .Trash

2007-12-20 Thread RichPicker
Sorry this is linked to the other bug. I couldn't see how to post.

Here are some other results:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd ~/.Trash
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.Trash$ ls -lt
total 0
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.Trash$ ls -a
. .. ...gspca.mod

It is not there with -lt but it IS there with -a

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd ~/.Trash
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.Trash$ ls -a
. .. ...gspca.mod
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.Trash$

It is still there. This is puzzling. I can't delete it. Yet I get no
error message when trying to delete it.

[Bug 177792] Remove selected doesn't work in the directory tree

2007-12-20 Thread Narf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnomebaker

When burning something, on the lower left side of the window there's a
directory tree.
You can click on some directory that you included in the list for burning and
click on Remove selected. However, nothing actually happens when you click it.
I guess nobody has reported this yet, as you can simply do this on the right
side, where the disk/image contents are shown, so it's not that a big deal.

I used my Nikon D50 yesterday and it operated perfectly as before. This

did not work with an updated version of Gutsy, so along the way an
update must have fixed the problem, at least for me. Perhaps others who
had this problem could recheck with an updated system.

[Bug 150061] Re: Resolution settings losses its settings every time I reboot

2007-12-20 Thread klm
laramarvin,

I did that, but I have the same problem I did with my other new
xorg.conf -- the font sizes are all enormous. This may be a result of
various tweaks I made when I was trying to figure out what changed when
I upgraded to gutsy (turns out it was that my monitor was running at
sub-native resolution), but for some reason my old xorg.conf starts in a
lower resolution and then if I use displayconfig-gtk to resize it to
1920x1200 it shrinks the fonts back down to a reasonable size. Does
anyone know what it's doing and where I would go to do that manually?
Of course the bug is that when using displayconfig-gtk to resize the
screen those changes are lost when I restart X. The new xorg.conf file
made by nvidia-settings does not start with low resolution, but it does
keep the enormous fonts.

[Bug 172823] Re: PAN NAP not working on Ubuntu Gutsy

2007-12-20 Thread TJ
I'm trying to solve a similar issue. I did want to use the NAP profile
but so far I'm not too clear on if/how that is possible using the Gnome
Bluetooth Manager and/or the Ubuntu configuration. My issue is, getting
a mobile telephone to do the DHCP request on the PAN so the telephone
can use the PC and its Internet link as the Internet gateway rather than
using the (relatively expensive) 3G connection when
updating/installing/testing applications on the telephone.

The documentation at http://wiki.bluez.org/wiki/Network and in
particular the comments in the example /etc/bluetooth/network.conf show
the defaults:

# Network interface name for PANU for connections. default:bnep%d
# Network Interface name for Group Network server. default:pan0
# Network Interface name for Network Access Point server. default:pan1

When enabling Network service in Gnome Bluetooth Preferences applet,
pan0 (adhoc-network) becomes available.

I configured it in /etc/network/interfaces:

iface pan0 inet static
address 10.254.2.254
netmask 255.255.255.0
pre-up /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart
up iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o pan0 -j MASQUERADE
down iptables -t nat -D POSTROUTING -o pan0 -j MASQUERADE

I'm using dnsmasq to provide DHCP/DNS for tun/tap interfaces so I added
a range to /etc/dnsmasq.conf

# egrep -v '^#|^$' /etc/dnsmasq.conf
user=nobody
interface=kvm0
interface=pan0
domain=lan.domain.net
dhcp-range=kvm,10.254.1.1,10.254.1.253,255.255.255.0,10.254.1.255,8h
dhcp-range=pan,10.254.2.1,10.254.2.253,255.255.255.0,10.254.2.255,8h

# ifup pan0
Restarting DNS forwarder and DHCP server: dnsmasq.
# ifconfig pan0
pan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00

[Bug 177800] k3b No CD/DVD writer found

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

On exactly this same hardware, running kubuntu 6.10, k3b burned CD's
fine. I am now running gutsy, and k3b cannot find the CD drive.

Bug #114471, No CD/DVD writer found (No detect CD/DVD writer), is closed
and I do not know how to reopen it.

kinfoCenter can find the CD drive and says it can write CD-R, CD-R/W,
DVD-R, DVD-RAM, MRW and RAM.

(kinfoCenter does not seem to support text copy/paste.)

Do you need any additional info?

Luckily, I still have the drive on which kubuntu 6.10 is installed, so I

[Bug 176511] Re: libboost-regex-dev depends on libicu36-dev

2007-12-20 Thread Steve Langasek
whoops, built the source package with Debian dpkg-buildpackage by
mistake, so this bug didn't get auto-closed. Here's the changelog:

 boost (1.34.1-2.2ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low
 .
   * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #176511), remaining changes:
 - pyste: drop dependencies on python-celementtree | python-elementtree.
 - GCCXMLParser.py: Use ElementTree from the python2.5 standard library.
 - Set Ubuntu maintainer address.
 - Build with python2.5.
 .
 boost (1.34.1-2.2) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Change libicu-dev dependency in addition to the build-dependency.
 Closes: #456844.
   * Add back build dependency on gcc-4.1, since bjam currently segfaults
with gcc-4.2; this is superseded already in 1.34.1-3 in experimental.
 Closes: #456915.
 .
 boost (1.34.1-2.1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Build-depend on libicu-dev instead of libicu36-dev for the icu library
 transition. Closes: #454605.
   * Bump the Build-Depends from g++-4.1 to g++-4.2, and add
backwards-compatibility -gcc41 symlinks for all libraries to avoid
gratuitous ABI breakage for the rebuild since the gcc version
doesn't change the ABI, contrary to upstream assertion. Bump the
 shlibs to match.
   * Add shlibs to libboost-dbg package, for compatibility with new
 dpkg-shlibdeps behavior.

[Bug 176511] Re: libboost-regex-dev depends on libicu36-dev

2007-12-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Luca, thanks for preparing this patch. Since I've already fixed this
bug in Debian, I'm going to go ahead and do this as a merge rather than
as an ubuntu3 build, purely as a matter of housekeeping. While I would
normally be happy to let you do the work on the merge and sponsor the
result, in this case I'm in a bit of a hurry because this bug is causing
build failures on other packages. :)

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-12-20 Thread Rhomboid
This doesn't appear to be fixed. I just installed 7.10 today. I had a
working desktop for about 10 minutes and then installed the available
updates. Now, after rebooting, when I log in I get a blank desktop for
about 5 seconds and then the screen goes completely black except for the
mouse (cursor still moves) and I never get a desktop. There was a lot of
disk activity so I installed iostat and the box is writing to nautilus-
debug-log.txt at about 8M/sec. While I never get an interactive desktop,
the machine is usable from the command line on an alternate terminal.

The box is just a P4 3GHz with an Nvidia 6800GT and 2GB RAM.

it did crash after selecting several messages received before I set up
IMAP access to Gmail. Hope this helps, and merry Christmas.

2007-12-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi James,

libboost-serialization is also available as a shared library. If you're
building a shared library yourself, is there a reason why you aren't
linking it dynamically with the shared boost? The -fPIC problem will
only affect trying to link statically, since static libraries are
normally not built with -fPIC.

[Bug 177802] samba: nmbd no longer starts automatically after gutsy upgrade

2007-12-20 Thread phirestalker
Public bug reported:

I have my printer connected to the ubuntu machine, and it is shared
through ipp and samba, I noticed an issue when I was unable to print
from a windows machine, I looked through settings I found that I was
also unable to access shares on the ubuntu machine, so I looked and
found that the nmbd process was not started, I could not start it
manually as it wouldn't fix the problem, I guess I didn't use the right
command line. If however I go to the new samba control applet and
clicked server settings and then ok it would start the nmbd process and
things work fine.

[Bug 177801] Only sound in builtin subwoofer

2007-12-20 Thread Costads
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have an acer aspire 9802wkmi with 2.1 sound system (small subwoofer
built into my laptop) with a 82801G (IHC7) ALC883 chip

I have been trying basically all things available now during the last week to
get my sound to work correctly. I have tried both ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10, and an
older newer kernel (2.6.20-18 2.6.24-?) I think it was but no matter what
I have only sound in my built-in subwoofer.
It's working fine if I boot up in windows.

I have tried alsa 1.0.14 to 1.0.15 final, and the backports the ones from
Realtek
I have made sure that all channels are unmuted, and tried basically all options
like acer,acer-aspire stacker3, stacker5, toshiba, rel, test, medion, etc. All
of them gave me sound in the subwoofer, but not medion a couple of others
which didnt produce any sound at all.

When I move the 2 sliders, PCM, (left + right ch), and Front (left+right
ch), they all adjust the loudness of my subwoofer, independant of each
other.

Any ideas if this is a kernel or alsa bug, or something totally
different ?

Please let me know if you need additional info.

Thanks

[Bug 152820] Re: Upgrade to linux-image-2.6.22-14 kernel renders my PC unbootable

2007-12-20 Thread David Wynn
It appears that the *intent* with Gutsy was to switch the drives over to
/dev/sd* completely. That did not happen for SiS 5513 IDE controllers.

According to my personal experience, these changes allowed me to use the
stock Ubuntu kernels:

Feisty: No changes from previous installs. Feisty kernels were working
fine with SiS 5513.

Gutsy: Some report fresh install with Gutsy works fine. An upgrade is
another matter. Change the /etc/fstab file for the / (root) partition
only to /dev/sd* instead of /dev/hd*.

Hardy: Change the /etc/fstab file for all partitions to use /dev/sd*
instead of /dev/hd*. Also, if you specify the boot directory by /dev
(instead of UUID) in /boot/grub/menu.lst, change to /dev/sd* there also.

These kind of changes need to be noted in the distribution notes for
upgrading.

Cheers!

[Bug 177805] Scribus does not work with accented characters when writing into a text box

2007-12-20 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scribus

Just install scribus, create a new project, insert a new text frame, and
try to write into it. When you type accented characters, like à, á, â,
what you get is 'a, `a, ^a, and so on... I cannot get it working, I
don't know why. And also, I don't see all the character fonts, just some
of them. When I use some Gnome application, I can select a lot more
fonts than with Scribus. That's why?? Thanks

[Bug 152187] Re: Serial Wacom tablet fails to return from ACPI suspend to RAM

2007-12-20 Thread Tom Jaeger
I think I've gotten to a point where a kernel developer could really
help. The problem is, I don't think anybody is reading my kernel bug
report and this being the first time I'm doing something like this, I'm
not sure what the proper etiquette to make myself heard would be. Do
you think it's appropriate to just assign the bug to someone (Shaohua Li
would be the obvious choice, I think)? Or should I CC a mailing list
(acpi-bugzilla?)? Thanks, Tom.

[Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)

2007-12-20 Thread Felix Miata
Upgrading to the latest kernel didn't help my mga system at all. My
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer file has no content. No matter
what combination of modules I do or don't include in /etc/initramfs-
tools/modules before doing 'update-initramfs -u -k all', I get entirely
black screen between Grub menu and KDM login screen, and unless I first
'modprobe vesafb', also on reboot after X closes, until POST begins.

[Bug 109740] Re: gnome locks up, does not respond to kbd or mouse

2007-12-20 Thread Gomez
I have this same problem, it has just started to happen.
only in my case the keyboard goes out as well, so i basically have to resort to
hard resetting.

so far i have not found any similarities in instances that it has gone out.
one time i was trying to empty my trash, and another i was trying to change a
track in the music program Amarok

[Bug 24867] Re: Strangely worded resize question

2007-12-20 Thread randomwalker
OMG please fix this! I just installed gutsy, interpreted the new
partition sizse slider like everybody else, got the size wrong, and
frustrated after logging in to my new install. I came here to report
this bug and found it's been reported a long time ago. It's a simple
wording change!

[Bug 161158] Re: acpi problem on asus m6r / m6000r laptop

2007-12-20 Thread Gökdeniz Karadağ
As I wrote in the report, I tested with Gutsy live CD. I do not have the
chance to install it, I believe the livecd kernel is identical with the
installed one.

I will try with prerelease versions of Hardy when I find the
opportunity.

[Bug 134680] Re: Sleep and Hibernate issues in Gutsy on Thinkpad x41

2007-12-20 Thread KamleshUbuntu
Using the 2.6.24-2 kernel, I just tried hibernate from the shut down
screen and I believe it was successful. The moon light slowly blinked,
and the disk light was active right before the system powered down. To
resume, I pressed the power button, and selected the test kernel. It
seemed to take a long time resuming, about as long as it would to boot.
Also the moon light did not blink while the computer was resuming. When
the system resumed, the output from some commands were still on a
terminal window, so it appears that it did resume.

[Bug 158562] Re: PVR-350 Video output fails

2007-12-20 Thread Mario Limonciello
This has been verified by several members both using and not using
hardware. Members with the hardware have verified that it fixes the
problem, and without hardware that it doesn't break theirs. (I
personally don't have the hardware and made sure it didn't break
anything additionally)

Can an archive admin please release it to -updates?
Thanks.
