[Bug 148247] Re: Compiz not supported for G965
Reopening, lowering priority. It was confirmed that to make EXA performance similar to XAA it'll need the new memory-manager (TTM), and that's not ready for Hardy. So we might need to force the driver to use XAA again. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical => High Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- Compiz not supported for G965 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148247 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 173949] Re: Printing on my HP4650 always chooses wrong format and tray
I changed in /etc/default/locale and /etc/environment according to the following: $ cat /etc/default/locale LANG="en_DK.UTF-8" $ cat /etc/environment | grep LANG LANG="en_DK.UTF-8" LANGUAGE="en_DK.UTF-8" This seems to have solved all my problems. My previous locale was 'en_US.UTF-8' before I changed anything in .gnomerc. [Bug 104630] Re: mplayer ppc crash due to incorrect use of fsqrt
I too was having this problem. I downloaded the source with apt-get source and twiddled with various CFLAGS and configure knobs, but really that was a waste of time, because i get a working mplayer binary with CFLAGS empty and no defaults on a G3. My guess is that this is a bug in the mplayer configuration system - they sternly warn you not to override CFLAGS (even if it's to provide a more compatible -mcpu= option!) If I add -mpowerpc-gpopt to CFLAGS, boom, the SIGILL's come back. Remove them again, and it builds fine. These CFLAGS, for example, work fine: "-mcpu=750 -Os -pipe -fno-strict- aliasing -mpowerpc-gfxopt" I was very surprised to find that this resulted in a usable build of mplayer on this ol' G3 @ 400MHz. I can watch a 624x352 XviD without altivec. Only catches are that cpu usage is at 100% and there is the occasional dropped frame, and that the default audio out (oss) makes human voices scratchy and unlistenable. -ao alsa fixes that right up though. In any event, here's how I did it for those of you playing along at home: #NOTE: apt will pull in some prerequisites - keep track of these if you want to delete them later sudo apt-get install libx264-dev libxvidcore4-dev libfaac-dev libasound2-dev libxv-dev libfontconfig1-dev cd /tmp sudo apt-get source mplayer export CXXFLAGS="" ; export CFLAGS="" ./configure --enable-largefiles --disable-tv --disable-pvr --disable-tv-v4l1 --disable-tv-v4l2 \ --disable-tv-bsdbt848 --disable-unrarlib --disable-inet6 --disable-ftp make && sudo make install I also had a successful build with these CFLAGS, but haven't compared the two for performance or anything like that: export CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=740 -Os -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -mpowerpc-gfxopt" ; export CFLAGS="-mcpu=740 -Os -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -mpowerpc-gfxopt" ; It takes between 20 minutes (with -Os) and 30 (with -O4 as mplayer's config script defaults to) to build the binary. You'll almost certainly want to add -maltivec if you are compiling on a G4. I'm sure that even on my system there is more to tune, but I'm not running gentoo here, so I'm happy for the moment ;-) Good luck! -- mplayer ppc crash due to incorrect use of fsqrt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104630 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 162292] Re: upgrading feisty to gutsy with software raid
Hi I don't have that broken list anymore, as I reinstalled a clean system. What I remember from the menu.lst is that pointing it to the correct drive root=whatever did not solve the problem. I think the problem may be grub's menu.lst but it may also be related to initrd not loading the raid module drivers. Am working in a new job now and I haven't really tinkered with Linux since Slackware days, but at that time it looked like a grub error. I think the best way to test it is to setup a raid with the older Ubuntu and then to cdromupgrade it. [Bug 181697] Local Evolution users should be able to share data
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution In Evolution, there is an "On this computer" type for all types of data; calendars, mail folders, tasks, notes and contacts. It's quite common for people to share the same computer, either physically, or using a terminal server such as LTSP or NX. It should be easy to enable users to share their data with other users via the filesystem. At least in read- only mode. I'm not sure it would be a good idea to let several users have write access at the same time, but even being able to just view another users data would be of great value to lots of users. If Mother just wants to see if Father has time to pickup Child, it'd be overkill to invest in a MS Exchange server or something like that. Solution, add a "Select calendar" button to the dialog that appears when you create a new calendar "On this computer". The filesystem permissions will decide if one can write to it or not. Shared data is located in /home/evolution-share, for instance. It shouldn't be more complicated than that? ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Local Evolution users should be able to share data https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 114363] Re: flashplugin-nonfree causes browser crash on close
This, at least for me, is a sound issue; more specifically an alsa vs oss issue. I can replicate the crash with the following steps: 1) open xmms 2) play arbitrary mp3 (using the OSS output driver "libOSS") 3) open new instance of firefox 4) go to youtube.com and play random video (you should not hear any sound from the video as OSS has taken over /dev/dsp) 5) while the video is playing, stop xmms (not pause) 6) press back on browser 7) crash! I solved this problem by setting *everything* to use alsa. It seems as though flash (which, for me, uses alsa) does not play nice with OSS. D. [Bug 180907] Re: unable to resume from hibernate
OK, here's the more details I got. The last thing I see before an entirely black screen says bluetooth... that's all i was able to see. I'll try more later. So it's not thinkpad-acpi . The issue is very strange but basically any kernel past 2.6.22 displays it. Now here is the kicker. The mute button actually mutes the. But the software (Gnome or KDE) does not pick it up when running on a kernel past 2.6.22. So the mixers are not aware that things have been muted. So you have no visual that things are muted. [Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)
I'm not sure what you mean by "fixed . . . with latest updates," because the console is still broken unless the user has the inclination and ability to do some hacking. With latest updates the default installation still doesn't allow better than 80x25 on the console, because the framebuffer is blacklisted and nothing takes its place. It is possible to re-engineer the box to get the console working again, but that's not a fix, just a workaround for us in the geek-speak- enlightened club. The SVGA standard for 1024 × 768 resolution at 256 colors was released in 1990. Here we are 18 years later running the most advanced, cutting edge kernel on the planet, but we're back to hacking the kernel to get the humble, text-mode tty console working properly. WTF? I checked the CD and there are no defects on it or with it. i kind of figured it was a compatibility issue, so now what do I do? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Problem with Cpmpaq Smart Array 431 Controller and Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
