[Bug 186133] [NEW] Pulsaudio freezes computer if module-oss is loaded

2008-01-26 Thread jocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

My computer have an onboard nvidia soundstorm sound card, and to be able to use
the hardware mixing and real time dolby digital encoding, I need to run nvidias
old nvsound driver, which is OSS only (i.e does not work with alsa).
To get pulseaudio working on gutsy, I needed to uncomment this line in
/etc/pulse/default.pa (automatic detection does not work):
[code]load-module module-oss device=/dev/dsp sink_name=output
source_name=input[/code]
This worked really well in gutsy, but when I do the same in hardy, the computer
completely freezes (Not even Alt+SysRq+R,E,I,S,U,B helps).

Relevant information:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7NNXP (nforce 2, with soundstorm integrated in the
mcp-t southbridge).
Sound driver: nvidia nvsound, installed according to my howto at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=253725.
OS: Hardy Heron (installed from alpha 3 cd, but up to date with daily updates)
Installed pulseaudio package: 0.9.9-1ubuntu1

I'm not the only one with this problem:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4195416postcount=179
(But this problem may be hardware/driver specific)

mouse locked to the center and the resolution of the game.

[Bug 186137] [NEW] Inclusion of external files doesn't work properly

2008-01-26 Thread Gianluca Borello
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: texmaker

When I click on one of the three functions to include a file (Latex
Menu/ include-input-includegraphics), a file chooser window is opened,
and when I select a file to include its path is not reported correctly,
for example:

My master document is ~/projects/document.tex
If i choose to include the image ~/projects/images/picture.png, the program
generates the output \includegraphics{picture.png} while the correct string
should be \includegraphics{images/picture.png}.
I attached a very simple patch that calculate the relative path between the
document and the file being included (I found the algorithm from Kile's
sources).

[Bug 186060] Re: OSS not supported

2008-01-26 Thread jocko
I agree with Icarosaurus, those of us that need to use oss only drivers (like
nvidia's drivers for soundstorm) need to have the uncrippled original
flashsupport from adobe to get working sound in flash.
The way it is now, installing the flashsupport package will overwrite the fully
functional libflashsupport.so with one that doesn't do anything but pulseaudio.
If you don't intend to provide the complete functionality in libflashsupport,
what's the point?
OSS support is already in the code provided by adobe.

hey,
Just for the record, i'm facing this problem on my laptop, thinkpad z60m with

on another note, i previously had faced some lockups on my laptop while playing

[Bug 101943] Re: braid screensaver crashes system with compiz activated

2008-01-26 Thread Nando
That is an excellent idea Tormod, It is one of the less attractive
screen savers anyway, no one will miss it.

I use an nVidia geforce go 7600 and my computer turns into a freak show
when I use desktop effects for a while. Some problems I could not
correct:

- The screen flickers black from time to time, It doesn't do it all the
time but some times, I notice that it doesn't happen when desktop
effects are off. I also tried changing the refresh rate and do other
things but it didn't fix the problem.

- Some times when I maximize Firefox it is black on the way there. That
is not a biog problem, but it looks ugly.

- I have an Intel centrino Wireless ipw3945 and every time the screen
goes off by itself the wireless stops working, I don't think this has
anything to do with the graphic card but I thought I would mention it as
well just in case.

- After prolonged use and for no apparent reason when I open videos I
see pink and bluish scribbles but no image, this doesn't happen all the
time either. (When desktop effects are on after a while)

-- Also, and this couldn't be considered a problem but a nuisance, I
have to load the desktop-settings every time after the screensaver goes
off because it overrides my color corrections.

I can't give specific steps to reproduce these problems because I am not
sure what creates them.

If you have my same card (and a laptop, I have HP pavillion series
dv8000) you can turn your effects to the maximum and wait for the show
to start and if it doesn't happen, maybe its me -- although this didn't
happen with Windows XP.

I checked the Linux driver for my card and the last update is from early
2006, that seems like a long time to me without updating a driver.

Hope since Timo reported this, they will read what I am saying now and
reproduce it as well.

Thank you all for your interest in this issue!

[Bug 77739] Re: LCD brightness setting doesn't work with Sony Vaio VGN-S5M

2008-01-26 Thread Sebastian Gaul
The new file makes the script from yleetiny work, it now returns:
method return sender=:1.3 - dest=:1.23 reply serial=2
int32 0
And it sets brightness from 2 to 3; smartdimmer and of my display brightness
say the same. But nothing changed in the brightness applet. The applet is in
version 2.20.0 and it's a little tricky to get the regulator to the position I
want. Is that right?

If there's no way to make it work I still have smartdimmer, so don't
spend more time with my problems then with yours. Except you have the
final big idea :)

have a nice weekend everyone.

2.) Go to http://mozplugger.mozdev.org/ and download Version 1.10.1 source.
3.) Move it to /usr/src and extract it.
