[Bug 61711] Re: very slow booting and no boot splash
I experienced the same error with a fresh install. usplash.conf was configure for a resolution of 1280x1024, my computer only supports 1024x768. I updated the xres and yres values in /etc/usplash.conf for a 1024x768 display. [Bug 193605] [NEW] Feature Freeze Exception request for Conduit 0.3.8
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: conduit Hardy is currently shipping with Conduit 0.3.6. With the changes in 0.3.7 and 0.3.8 numerous bugs were fixed, including many involving Flickr, F-Spot, and Tomboy, as well as general clean-up and solidification of the code (a 0.4 release is upcoming soon). Additionally, support was added for syncing Gmail contacts, an often- requested feature. In order that we might ship as few bugs as possible and deliver the most sought-after features reasonably possible, I think it would be highly beneficial to include those changes in 8.04, especially given its LTS status. I have not testing building and installing myself, but have been following the Conduit development mailing list and there do not appear to be any regressions that have been mentioned there. (If I had the time to mess with the packaging / building I might be able to give it a shot, but it will be far more effecient for someone more experienced with the package to try that step instead.) ** Affects: conduit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Feature Freeze Exception request for Conduit 0.3.8 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 189844] Re: [Hardy-Alpha 4 PPC] Screen resolution correct but shifted to the right
Similar, but no amount of logging in/out, sending commands to the console, using virtual terminals, seems to help. My problem is immediately noticeable once past gdm, and I wish I could do something to make the problem worse - at least I'd have some idea. I've tried changing the login to a "plain" debian style login, and tried using just a simple window manager. The only thing I can do is reduce the resolution to 1400x1050 which now has black pillars on each side, but at least it is centered. 1680x1050 is the native resolution on this 20" iMac PPC display. I also put my Feisty xorg.conf in service on Hardy, but it didn't make any difference. I had to go back to Gutsy since I erased my Alpha image, and the latest daily builds (19 Feb) no longer recognize the cdrom, hard drive, load modules, or do partitioning. Different bugs - I'll try again with a new image in a few days. What makes it easier is that with PPC, there is no choice but to use the standard nv driver on this model. I'm afraid this problem (or a similar one) still remains. When I suspended my computer and woke it up again the screen was black. I could see the cursor though which I think I didnt earlier. I tried restarting X with ctrl alt bs and just as I did I saw my desktop (or at least the desktop background) for a fraction of a second. Restarting X didnt help though, I had to reboot the computer to make it work again. Perhaps this is another bug since this has to do with suspend and I can see the cursor now. This is quite unacceptable. A partial output of strace is: What is your HOME env variable? What is TEXMFHOME? We had similar problems because HOME had a terminal /, which made TEXMFHOME=/path/to/home//texmf and thus searches the full homedir. It is important that HOME does not have a terminal slash. [Bug 191127] Re: simple-backup-config does not check for validity of regex exclusion rules
Hello, Thank you for your patch. I appreciate a lot your motivation and help. I don't maintain Sbackup (at least for now) anymore but as you have submitted a patch, it would be nice to have it included in Ubuntu for other users. There is a plan to re-merge Sbackup and NSsbackup though. But that won't be for Hardy. So it's better having Ubuntu-dev patching Sbackup 0.10.4. As for Launchpad usage, by submitting your patch here, since I have set the Bug for all projects (NSsbackup, Sbackup Upstream and Sbackup (Ubuntu) ), the patch is available for all projects and all developers have been notified. As for the plan on Implementing logging in the software, it has been done on NSsbackup (information available on https://edge.launchpad.net/nssbackup/ ). You can easily install NSsbackup by Using NSsbackup-Team PPA ( https://edge.launchpad.net /~nssbackup-team/+archive ). Take the gutsy version (0.1-6) if you want something stable. Version 0.2 is the development version. I'll review you patch and add it to NSsbackup (I must admit that I was thinking that I've already fixed this bug :-( ). [Bug 193507] Re: compile fails without BLK_DEV_INITRD
Hi James, One workaround is to also disable CONFIG_ACPI which will allow the build to finish, just not sure if that's something you want disabled or not. If you take a peek at the Makefile: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ head linux-2.6.24/init/Makefile # # Makefile for the linux kernel. # obj-y := main.o version.o mounts.o ifneq ($(CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD),y) obj-y += noinitramfs.o else obj-$(CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD) += initramfs.o endif You can see that since you've disabled BLK_DEV_INITRD, initramfs.o is not being built and thus "early_populate_rootfs" is not defined. As a hack to get the compile to finish, you can comment out the "early_populate_rootfs" call from linux-2.6.24/init/main.c with something like: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ diff -Naur ubuntu-hardy/init/main.c linux-2.6.24/init/main.c --- ubuntu-hardy/init/main.c2007-12-09 15:11:22.0 -0800 +++ linux-2.6.24/init/main.c2008-02-19 21:47:33.0 -0800 @@ -644,7 +644,9 @@ check_bugs(); +#ifdef CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD early_populate_rootfs(); /* For DSDT override from initramfs */ +#endif acpi_early_init(); /* before LAPIC and SMP init */ /* Do the rest non-__init'ed, we're now alive */ Since BLK_DEV_INITRD is enabled by default for the Ubuntu kernels, you're really building your own custom kernel by disabling this option. [Bug 193592] [NEW] aha1542 causes kernel panic
Public bug reported: This bug was already reported as #1127928 (package linux-source-2.6.22) The reported bug still occurs in Ubuntu version 7.10 with almost the same error message reported. This happens both when I run sane-find-scanner and also when launching xsane. The scanner device is Hewlett Packard C5100A. The device is OK, I have tested it with sg_utils. The aha1542 module works OK for the scsi CD-ROM drive and also OK for an internal scsc disk drive (Quantum LPS). Sorry, I had to change the original description because it was all wrong (sorry about that :-s :-s). I just tried again after Ubuntu updated itself but saddly the problem is still there. Best Regards. ** Description changed: Hi!!. First, my congratulations to all of you who make this Beauty of Ubuntu a reality. I have been learning it by my self since version 6, so far, I'm still impressed by the quick improvings in this great OS. Now, let get to work ;-) My system is: Athlon 64 X2 6000, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, 80 GB HDD IDE, Motherboard MSI K9N Platinum, Video ATI Radeon X1950XT. All of this is running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon full patched. As 2 GB of RAM is plenty (in theory) I disabled the swap partition when first installed, meaning there is only two EXT3 partitions (root and home). - The problem: + How to reproduce it: - Very easy. If you click the shut down button and then select "Switch - user" in order to start another sesion, you get blank screen and a non - responding Ubuntu in such a way that you'll need to hard reset the PC. - The first time I saw that, I closed every aplication and tried again + * You will need at least two accounts created in Ubuntu (in my case, one for my daughter and the other one mine). + * Click the shut down button and then select "Switch user" in order to start another sesion. Input user name and password, you should go in normally. + * Now click in Shut down again and then click on "Close Sesion" (as if you where going back to the first session). + * If you got lucky, now there is a blank screen and a non responding Ubuntu in such a way that you'll need to hard reset the PC. + + The first time I saw that, I closed every aplication and tried again with the same result, then, I disabled the Compiz and it happened again.
