[Bug 211687] [NEW] Remaining brightness issue on Thinkpad T61
Public bug reported: First, I'd like to mention that this is not a duplicate of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198476 That issue was fixed with yesterday's kernel update and my keyboard buttons do work to adjust my screen brightness. This is a related issue, however. When on battery power, the screen tends to progressively dim itself. In Power Management I have checked the boxes for 'Reduce backlight brightness' and 'Dim display on idle'. When I unplug, the display dims (good) and when I leave it sit there for a minute or two, the screen dims a little more (I'm assuming this is 'dim display when idle'). Unfortunately when I move my mouse (where I'd expect the screen to brighten a little again by coming out of idle), the screen dims even more. It seems like someone put a call for brightness down where it should've been brightness up. But then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about in that area... I have an Intel X3100 gpu on a Thinkpad T61 running Hardy 8.04 beta with todays upgrades. Please let me know if you need more information. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Remaining brightness issue on Thinkpad T61 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 202247] Re: m1330 screen flicker
Ah, thanks for checking in console mode; so chances are good it's not X. To be certain - if you shut down X entirely (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop) can you recreate the issue? If so, then it definitely rules out an X driver issue. If you can't reproduce it, then X may still be involved in some way. In any case, it's sounding like you're thinking it should be explored from the ACPI issue, so I'll go ahead and refile it there. [Bug 202174] Re: Please update to version 2.6
A few more points to support the inclusion of abiword-2.6.0 in th eupcoming Unbuntu release. This is a major update. Asking for a changelog is insane. It has be in excess of 100,000 LOC. There is no way anyone is going to be able to review that. We have fixed hundreds of bugs since 2.4.6 which have not and will not be backported to 2.4.x. The 2.4.x series is dead as far as we're concerned. Our windows 2.6.0 release is now out in the wild. We have registered over 300,000 downloads already. AbiWord-2.6.x will be included in upcoming fedora, Mandriva and SUSE release. AbiWord 2.6.x includes a brand new real-time collaborative editing feature which allows Windows, fedora, SUSE and Mandriva users to simultaneously edit their documents in real time. This feature has received rave reviews on OLPC machines (where it is included as the within the Write word processor). If Ubuntu does not include 2.6.x, Ubuntu users will miss out on this exceptional new feature, while their Windows friends can happily interoperate. -- Please update to version 2.6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202174 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 211664] [NEW] Windows shared printers not visible in Hardy Beta.
Public bug reported: Hi again. I'm very lucky because I can use Ubuntu 8.04 Beta everyday as my working PC. One of the best parts is that it's connected to several Domains in a Windows network. Is pleasant to see that browsing the Network now shows the Domains and PC on it easier than Gutsy (IMO). But just today I note the following: In my lab there is a Lexmark printer shared by a Windows XP computer. The printer installing process in Ubuntu gives the option to browse this PC by navigating the network (this is GREAT!) BUT when you reach that PC you simply can not see the shared printer(s). The result is that you must type the SMB route yourself. As you can see and browse the Windows network it's expected you can also see the printers they contain, right ?? So, after the installation I made click on Places/Network and started browsing the Windows domain into another PCs and could successfully see their shared folders but NO the shared printers. Just my today's two cents. ;-) Regards. [Bug 195296] Re: [gutsy] gdm (including gdmsetup) ignores or cannot access gdm.conf-custom
It worked again, don't know exactly why but this is what I did: I removed all the themes that gdmsetup let me remove, i think the only ones left was Circles and the Happy GNOME themes, then reinstalled the gdm, gdm-themes, ubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-themes and things like that, at this point i have not fixed anything, it was worse because the Human theme never appeared again so I got an error reporting that cannot open or read /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/Human.xml file, of course there was no Human directory in /usr/share/gdm/themes, then I made a copy of a theme directory, Crystal in this case, and renamed the directory to Human, and it loads as the default theme, don't know why because I removed any reference to the Human theme in the .conf files, by the way, the gdm.conf-custom was empty, 0 bytes and I replaced it with the gdm.conf file and nothing different happened, but that was before I replaced the Human theme directory, after that I'd go to the gdm screen using the Switch-User option, and loaded Crystal, I logged again and deleted the Human directory, again, somehow when I enter the gdmsetup it was working again as it should, selecting and saving the theme as usual, I believe I did extra work because probably all the problem was that the gdm.conf-custom file was truncated to zero, maybe just replacing that with the gdm.conf file or factory-gdm.conf would have been enough to solve the problem. If anybody can check and see if just replacing the truncated gdm.conf- custom file fix the problem, I would like to know, now everything works fine, maybe the error is where the file was truncated to zero. -- [gutsy] gdm (including gdmsetup) ignores or cannot access gdm.conf-custom https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195296 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On the crashing note, often when I have things looping, newly launched apps will crash out. Firefox (latest beta) and Tomboy are two key examples of this. This happened every time I clicked on any firefox menu or typed on any web or textbox. The only thing i could do whithout having this freezes was browsing with my mouse. As i said in my last mail. When i've uninstalled ia32 and flash plugin, firefox keep doing this. But when i've reinstalled flash plugin, it magically started working again. However, nq said: "When this occurs, I am unable to type in any new applications that is launched. It automatically crashes/closes the application regardless of the key I press. Well, the xserver-xorg-core-2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu6 upload fixed this problem for me. Can you check that you're actually using this version of the package - from the Ubuntu repositories? (apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core should print this info out). -- Keys get "stuck" down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have been updating 8.04 periodically (sometimes daily, sometimes more like weekly, and this was after several days of not updating). There were only two obvious things I noticed: the large number of updates, and the fact that I got an error message and a hang when shutting down that referred to the SCIM initialization. I do not know if this was the initial install of SCIM or if previous installs and updates just did not generate any errors so I had not noticed it. I was able to get past the problem by reinstalling 8.04 from the CD, and then I used the Synaptic Package Manager to update all packages, unchecked all the updates that referred to SCIM, and rebooted (as requested). I then updated the SCIM packages and all worked well. -- [fglrx] atieventsd crashed with SIGSEGV in XextAddDisplay https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201650 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm experiencing the same problem with hardy 8.04 beta, using acer AL1916W and Nvidia 8500 GT running the proprietary nvidia driver.
