[Bug 182616] Re: Checkfs fails on USB partition because initialization isn't finished yet; prompts on every boot

2008-05-31 Thread Andrea Corbellini
The script which mounts all the partitions listed in fstab is
/etc/init.d/mountall.sh, which is part of the package initscripts.
The reason why putting sleep 5 in checkfs.sh works is because checkfs is
executed before mountall (according to /etc/rcS.d).
If you have some questions, just ask. :-)

[Bug 236275] [NEW] System very slow after suspend-to-ram

2008-05-31 Thread Damien Cassou
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

Hi,

after I suspend my laptop by closing the lid and reopening the lid, the
system is very very slow. There is a delay of some seconds between I
type a key and the login screen displays it. The rest of the system is
also very slow which forces me to reboot completely. I attache the
result of gnome-power-bugreport.sh when the system works perfectly. If
you want to, I can try to execute this program after a slow resume but
it will be difficult.

This bug might be related to: bug #99675 or bug #229447.

[Bug 235615] Re: Startupmanager fails to install new usplash theme

2008-05-31 Thread philinux
Ok running it with sudo fixed it. There was a panel came up regarding
grub having been locally modified. So I chose the package maintainers
version.

This has now sorted out the problem. It was not writing the new grub.
There must have been difference between /boot/grub/menu.lst and the one
held in /var/run.

This episode occurred only after I had to manually run the usplash
command in terminal.

SUM also now installs usplash.

Thanks.

[Bug 187313] Re: right click (with button release) might activate popup-menu-item

2008-05-31 Thread Umang
Well, I can't seem to find logs that show which Add-ons have been
upgraded, but I use only three:

AdBlock Plus
Mouse Guestures (I just found out it was enabled now, initially it wasn't
compatible with FFb5)
Session Manager

If there was a problem with these plugins then I presume that's how it
got fixed.

Also I've attached the packages I've upgraded (mainly Recommended
Upgrades, though I'm yet to upgrade all)

[Bug 72297] Re: a2x depends on fop.sh

There is no fop packages for hardy.

Either fop needs to be packaged and then it can be considered to include
it into depends, or it should be taken out of recommends. However, it is
true that fop is necessary to be able to use the full functionality of
a2x.

Hibernate and wake up from hibernation worked perfectly under 2.6.24-16.

After upgrading to 2.6.24-17 it still hibernates but wake up from

[Bug 125925] Re: kernel panic on boot in kubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 tribe 2 becouse of Apic

2008-05-31 Thread Taza
I'm the user on IRC. Now that I can actually report it instead of
swearing incoherently, here's what I found:

Booting Kubuntu 8.04 LiveCD.

Asus M2N4-SLI (latest stable bios), AMD 64 X2 5000+ 65w, 2x1024mb 800mhz
Kingston ValueRAM, GeForce 9600GT.

Trying just to boot - KERNEL PANIC. Exactly the same as original poster.

Trying to boot with noapic added - modprobe crashes, system won't load.

Booting with quiet removed in safe graphics mode - everything appears to
work.

works

if you clear the relevant key in gconf, rhythmbox starts and fills it correctly
selecting a new music directory also puts the correct value into gconf (so
nothing has gone wrong)

[Bug 138355] Re: Gutsy, Nvidia, KDE, Compiz = screen blanks to white when using XGL

2008-05-31 Thread JofArnold
It's a problem with the latest nvidia drivers AFAIK. 169.12 worked fine for
me. I use xserver-xgl because the performance without is terrible (12fps for
many things, as reported by compiz benchmark). I'm either going to revert the
nvidia drivers or just put up with the speed and hope they can fix it. Not
happy with nvidia/compiz right now.

[Bug 204578] Re: 2.6.24.12 won't boot with em28xx device

2008-05-31 Thread Stefan K.
Hi Markus,
Did You try the 2.6.24-16 packages with 2.6.24-17?

I tried, but there is no change in result, although the installation process
worked without error messages.
Perhaps I've to say that I'm not even sure if the package you try to invent
aims at my problem.
Still got the keyboard lock problem when I plug in my Terratec Cinergy XS.
I tried the Compile a custom kernel version too, but it didn't help either.

Sry, I'm not as good in programming as I should be, so I couldn't give
any help in kernel hacking but perhaps I can help with testing ;)

So far, thanks for all the work you've done in solving that problem!

Bye,

Stefan

[Bug 146737] Re: Ubuntu offers no zero configuration network or so (unlike Apple)

2008-05-31 Thread oss_test_launchpad
I understand that you feel strongly about this topic. I suppose this is
the reason why you paste other people's e-mail adresses (which you have
from launchpad's notification mail server) into this thread, making them
subject to mail spamming, which I would regard as a lack of sensitivity
for questions of data protection as well as netiquette.

I once again call upon you to kindly ask the administrators to edit your
post so that it meets the requirements and habits of this community.
Btw. a short apology would be appropriate.

USB is not outside the scope of this discussion. This thread is not
about a particular kind of cable (see above). Please do not use this

[Bug 236282] [NEW] Phatch depends on locate to find fonts

2008-05-31 Thread stani
Public bug reported:

Phatch uses locate to find the font files on a linux system. Unfortunately
locate is not installed or configured correctly (to work out of the box) by
default on Hardy. Two solutions are possible:
- replace locate with find, but this is *much* slower and will need a user
notification
- add locate as a dependency of Phatch (but is this enough to configure locate

that would cause the behavior you are seeing.

[Bug 224142] Re: gnome_url_show says some evolution email links invalid

2008-05-31 Thread Nicholas Rahn
Yes, I agree that it would be difficult to determine if all you are
given is just a string. However, there must be some indicator in the
email source that indicates that these are links (or that the author of
the email specified them as links) since they are *displayed* as a link.
It seems that clicking on the link sends the url through the
gnome_url_show function where the verification is done. Perhaps there
could be a way of telling gnome_url_show that it should not do a link
verification check, just trust the application.

I have working open-vm-tools on two servers running with the patch from

Could somebody please clarify why they have been removed from Hardy?

[Bug 222796] Re: Brightness up not generating ACPI event on Thinkpad T43p, T42, X31, X40

2008-05-31 Thread Martin Reiche
Hi,
I think I have at least found a workaround (after someone else pushed me in the
right direction): if you do

sudo su
echo enable,0xff /proc/acpi/ibm/hotkey

both buttons generate acpi events and show the OSD.
But now: how to make it permanent?
