[Bug 120199] Re: ntp daemon not reconfigured by /etc/network
Your report states that there are problems with /etc/network/if-up.d/ntp and /etc/network/ntp-server, but these files do not exist in Intrepid, and from what I can tell, ntp works just fine. In addition, there have been many changes to ntp since this bug was reported, so this is why we ask that you please test with either Hardy or Intrepid to see if the problem still exists in the latest version. I did not make any accusations of fault, and never suggested that this report was going to be closed before the issue has been resolved. We only wish to determine if the report still documents a valid issue in Ubuntu. [Bug 248358] [NEW] Paper size setting for HP Photosmart D7200 doesn't work
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Go to System - Administration - Printing - Printer Options set Media Size to Photo or 4x6 inch index card Printout Mode to Photo (on photo paper) Media Source to Photo Tray 2. Print any photo from F-Spot. The printer reports (on its LCD screen) Wrong paper size. Photos cannot be printed. I changed loglevel of cups to debug and tried the above steps again. One can clearly see, that the paper size sent to printer is A4, no matter what's set in Printer Options. Additional information: 1. I use Ubuntu 8.04.1 32-bit. 2. HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.2). 3. CUPS 1.3.7-1ubuntu3 (the latest version as of 14.07.2008). 4. Pages in A4 format can be printed without problems. 5. Printing of 4x6 photos from F-Spot on my printer worked flawlessly in Ubuntu 7.10. I had to manually build and install a newer version of HPLIP, which supports Photosmart D7200 printer to achieve that, though. After distribution upgrade printing of photos stopped working, as described above. I doesn't work on a fresh installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 either. 6. I have another printer: HP Photosmart 7550, which prints flawlessly 4x6 photos from F-Spot - the system-wide paper size setting seems to work here. 7. It doesn't matter if the Photosmart D7200 is connected via USB or Network interface. The symptoms are the same in both configurations. It's unclear to me if it's a system-wide problem (cups, hplip or maybe the 7200s ppd file) or an F-Spot bug. There is no possibility to set paper size directly from F-Spot. I installed Gwenview, where one can set paper size to override the system setting. It works: I'm able to print 4x6 photos from Gwenview, no matter what paper size is set in the system-wide Printer Options. So Gwenview seems to be able to override the system-wide setting. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: cups f-spot hplip ppd ** Tags added: cups f-spot hplip ppd ** Description changed: Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Thanks Amir for confirming. You are right, this is not good behavior, but that's why it is a bug ;). The timing script was to figure out if timing was the issue, and was meant to be a temporary workaround as well if needed. Keep in mind if Ubuntu were Windowsish you wouldn't even have the ability to use a different window manager/compositor, nor would third-party software like cairo-clock be supported by the OS company. [Bug 204996] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.24-12 lockup
OK, after all this mess, I skimmed through the 2.6.25 changelogs looking for possible deadlock fixes. Since many users experience the deadlock with wireless and/or dialup connections, this might be the right one to look at, since sequence holes are something that might typically occur on such connections. Can a developer please tell me, whether this patch is already applied to 2.6.24-19 ? If no, would it be possible to provide a testing kernl with this patch applied? [Bug 248372] [NEW] Nautilus crash makes desktop icons and right-click vanish until restart
Public bug reported: Nautilus crashed on me recently and later I noticed all icons disappeared from the gnome desktop, (current ubuntu hardy with all updates to this date). In addition right-clicking on the desktop wouldn't work (and similar things like rubber-band selecting icons (which weren't displayed in any case)). After a reboot, removing any tmp files, full shutdown and reboot, and restarting and trying everything else I could think of, if I started nautilus from a gnome- terminal, and shut it down again properly and my icons, right-click abilities, etc. returned. I'm unable to duplicate this (how do I force nautilus to crash poorly to begin with? I don't remember what I was doing!) I post this bug in case it is useful to pass upstream and as a record in case anyone else encounters the same problem. The clue to restart nautilus was given by this old fedora post: http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Fedora/2004-07/5596.html and I thought it worth trying. Bug exists but is non-critical, but impacts ability for inexperienced user to use the gnome UI. I'm not entirely sure the nautilus is the source of the bug, but restarting it cured the symptoms. It might be a GDM bug. [Bug 248376] [NEW] VMWare server causes keyboard problems in ubuntu host
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vmware-server Running VMWare-server, current Ubuntu Hardy with all patches up to this date, with a pre-made WinXP guest operating system VM, causes all sorts of keyboard-related problems when I swap between the guest operating system and the host. I.e. I use the host operating system and suddenly can't type capital letters, other keys accidentally shut windows, minimize windows, etc. while attempting to use any other applications. Selecting a different keyboard layout (say US Keyboard variant) , and then reverting (back to UK keyboard layout) makes the problem go away until the guest operating system is accessed again. During this all keys work as expected when the guest operating system has focus. I post it in case it is indicative of some problem in Gnome's keyboard handling or the vmware-server package, or in case someone is looking for a workaround. (i.e. select different keyboard layout, apply, select original keyboard layout, apply.) It seems that one of the most recent updates reintroduced this bug? If you want more information, please let me know. This bug is believed resolved as of gnome-panel 1:2.22.1.2-0ubuntu3. There have been two stable release updates of gnome-panel since that time, but the most recent of these was at the beginning of June and no regressions have been reported since then (until now). If the freeze clears itself after a restart, that also doesn't appear to be consistent with this bug. It's possible that an update of a separate package confused gnome-panel and caused the freeze; I've seen this behavior myself before on upgrades but it was never reproducible and was not pinned down. [Bug 63323] Re: Edgy eft beta and panasonic CF73
The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached it's end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test your bug using the LiveCD. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus 1) Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 2) Nautilus 2.22.3 3) 4) Nautilus seems to have different actions when opening a file via sftp (at least with gedit) - if the application is known, then the file is correctly opened - if the application is not known (I tried to open a file without extension -- Sconstruct), and a program is manually indicated via open with.., then a new file is shown instead in gedit. The designation you've made makes no sense. I think it is based on the fact that you don't understand the bug and are more focused on trying to clear things out of the bug database than on fixing them. The fix here is very straightforward. Re: [Bug 120199] Re: ntp daemon not reconfigured by /etc/network
Hew [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Your report states that there are problems with /etc/network/if-up.d/ntp and /etc/network/ntp-server, but these files do not exist in Intrepid, The problem isn't those files. It is the functionality. The fact that the files no longer exist at all might in fact mean that the situation is worse, not that it is better. and from what I can tell, ntp works just fine. Okay, if you're sure there is no problem, what restarts ntp when a machine wakes from sleep on a laptop? If it is not restarted, it is likely not to have the correct ntp servers in use, and it will not have the time properly synchronized. Perry -- Perry E. [Bug 236500] Re: Using gnome-art on hardy/intrepid 64-bit I can't see preview at the right side of the window..
The same is happening to me on my 32-bit Hardy 8.04. gnome-arts version 0.2. The preview images in the .gnome-2/gnome-arts/tmp directory have the .png extension. They are in fact HTML pages. The HTML page in question is the Google search front page. Pressing the preview button brings up Firefox saying that the image cannot be displayed. I tested it with gimp and then used the file command in the terminal which told me it was HTML. -- Using gnome-art on hardy/intrepid 64-bit I can't see preview at the right side of the window.. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 248193] Re: Firefox crashes oppening SVG files
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Viewing svg files in firefox-3.0 works for me. Please answer the following questions: * Could you please provide some example links that you have experienced the problem with? * If you have reported this issue before, what is the original bug number? It would be more useful to solve the problem using that report rather than dealing with duplicates. * Does apport produce a crash report when firefox crashes? Since you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.
