well there's bad news - i had already tried to find something in the logfiles but to no avail - they do resume just after the kernel-induced reboot after the initial fsck. furthermore, i now recognized that after such crashy shutdown, fsck does not only find errors but also had "died with error code 3" each time. i must have read over that before. another thing that already indicated that something is fishy with shutdown is, that after fsck and the reboot, my saved-upon-logoff ubuntu session including evolution, firefox etc. is always in a post-crash condition. nevertheless i'll attach my kern.log, fyi, i initiated shutdown at 7:20, all entries at 7:22 are already from the reboot after (unsuccessful) fsck. ** Attachment added: "kern.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17054406/kern.log -- root FS not cleanly unmounted on SSD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 215604] Re: Genesys Logic Webcam 05e3:0503 Not Working
Hi Pac Shady, Sorry for the delayed response here. Do you know if there have been any efforts to get this driver submitted and accepted into the upstream mainline kernel? Maintaining out of tree patches/drivers produces quite a bit of extra work for the Ubuntu kernel team. As such they typically require evidence of upstream submission before considering to maintain community patches locally. I'll reassign this to them to consider. [Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
As I pointed out far earlier in this bug discussion... I didn't have any issues with Gutsy 7.10 running on x.org 7.2, before upgrading to Hardy 8.04 which is running x.org 7.3 version. I believe that users still running Gutsy and downloaded x.org updates to 7.3 faces the same problems as as Hardy 8.04 users do. I believe the other distros such as Centos etc also have the same problem after upgraded to v7.3 of x.org. So the question I would like ask is: -What is with the x.org 7.3 version? [Bug 227003] Re: boot stalls in "waiting for root file system"
I probably have the same issue. I have a fresh 64-bit Hardy install on a new HP Pavilion with an Intel Quad Core and nVIDIA GeForce 9500. When starting the computer, Ubuntu freezes shortly after the GRUB menu when the splash screen comes up and the progress bar bounces to and fro. This happens mostly when restarting the computer, but sometimes also following a clean start (using the Power button). I disabled the splash screen to catch the associated error messages but there didn't seem to be anything useful. Screenshots of the output are posted in this thread in the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=897958 (Post #3). I added 'all_generic_ide' to /boot/grub/menu.lst, but the problem persists (although it appears to occur less frequently). [Bug 261016] [NEW] intrepid xserver only starts if boot via recovery option
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I upgraded my hp2710p (Intel 965 graphics) from a working Hardy install to intrepid alpha 4, and am having all sorts of display problems. When I boot, I get the Ubuntu splash screen, but my display turns off before I hit the login screen. Things still work, as I can log in - I hear the login sounds, and can reboot blind via a console (CTRL-ALT F1, login, sudo reboot) - so long as I get the keystrokes right. The closing down progress bar then reappears at this point. If I boot via the recovery option, and choose Resume Normal Boot, everything works just fine. Note: I used the fix X option in recovery mode earlier, to get rid of my custom xorg.conf - it had extra entries for the 2710p's tablet, but the problem persists. [Bug 261010] [NEW] X org restarts 'randomy'
Public bug reported: I am running a dell xps 1330 (pre-installed ubuntu) with Hardy. It has a GeForce 8400M (rev a1). with the nvidia-glx-new(version 169.12+2.6.24.14-21.47). My wife was using this computer and one day X restarted for no reason. She told me about it and i made sure she was not pressing any buttons when it happened (encase she had pressed CTRL- ALT-BACKSPACE). she had not pressed any buttons. then today it happened again. I tried to check the /var/log/Xorg.0.log log file after the problem, but I found no information about the restart in there; nor any info about any kinds of errors. Also, the second time this happened right after the system switched from being idle to active again(it switched from when the screen was dimmed since the system was idle and my wife touched the mouse pad and X just restarted). I don't know if this is important or not, but both times were after several suspend/resume cycles had been done(witch also does not work like 1 out of 20 times and some times resumes with a very _loud_ system beep and some times has trouble reconnecting the wifi to the internet). Let me know if you need any more information ** Affects: dell Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: dell Importance: Undecided Status: New -- X org restarts 'randomy' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 261011] [NEW] xfwm4 full screens pidgin buddy list on open
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xfwm4 Running the latest version of intrepid, it seems like every other time I deiconify my buddy list in pidgin, the list gets full screened automatically. Im pretty sure this is an xfwm4 bug because it does not occur under emerald/compiz and I never remember this happening under metacity. What happens is that if I have my buddy list not open (because I clicked on the pidgin icon to make it go away), I can open up my buddy list once and it comes up as it should. (The same size and place it was in when I closed it.) However, if I close it and then open it again, regardless of the time passed, it opens up as if I had clicked the full screen button. If I dont de-full screen it, it will stay full screened if I open and close it any number of times. A few other interesting points ive noticed. When it comes up correctly the first time in the cycle, it has the wrong icon. It is not full screened, but it has the de-full screen icon instead of the full screen icon. Also, when it comes up correctly, if I manually full screen the window and then de-full screen it, that sort of counts as resetting the cycle and the next time I open the window it will be normal and then the next time it will mess up. Thanks, and I hope this is enough information. ** Affects: xfwm4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xfwm4 full screens pidgin buddy list on open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261011 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 108961] Re: Pen no longer works after resuming from suspend
The Toshiba m200 and the x60t should have the same tablet hardware and use the same driver. Stefan Bader is a kernel team member; the kernel in his PPA may be "unofficial," but he should know whether he's done anything to fix this or not! Most importantly, it would be fantastic if people tested this on Intrepid. -- Pen no longer works after resuming from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108961 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
