[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness
Now I have made some tests with itrepid. The io wait time is lower and the throughput is higher with and without concurrent disc access as in hardy or gutsy. But the desktop responsiveness problem still exists. The overall throughput of concurrent disc access is about 30% lower than on my 2.6.18 kernel. When writing eight 2GB files concurrent on the disc, there is difference between the written data during the operation is up to 500 MB. All writing operations start at the same time. This difference is much lower (~200MB) under the 2.6.18 kernel The kernel signature is Ubuntu 2.6.27-2.3-generic. I wouldn't be too sure of that, because regular users probably got their computer installed by a non-regular user. :) However, it would also be nice to avoid possible hazzle for skilled users - especially breaking something that used to work previously. [Bug 210303] Re: [hardy] kaffeine loops on Codec package is already installed
I've been redirected to this bug report as I submitted one earlier (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kaffeine/+bug/269359) with regard to this problem happening with .mov files. Further to my bug report, it seems that the problem is intermittent when it comes to .mov files. I downloaded a few more just to test the problem, and with one of the .mov files Kaffeine played without a problem. The same was true of another file that I downloaded, however upon clicking 'x' to close that particular instance of Kaffeine, the program would crash and give the backtrace error that I have provided as an attachment. I am a little baffled as to why the chances of playback should vary from file to file in spite of them all being the same file type. ** Attachment added: kaffeine.kcrash http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17554745/kaffeine.kcrash -- [hardy] kaffeine loops on Codec package is already installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am experiencing the same issue (also in 2.6.27-3). If I boot in Hardy everything works just fine, but in Intrepid Alpha 5, some websites and apt don't work. All LAN traffic works just fine. I also eliminated any hardware issues by replacing the route, network line, and the networks card. [Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]
I appreciate your workaround Stefan, and it worked for me for a few days, however today it doesn't, /etc/fmodprobe.d/orcedeth is still there with the options line and I tried rebuilding the initramfs again but no go. The only thing that's changed in the interim is I installed turboprint (surprise surprise as my canon mp800 printer isn't supported) I don't know how that could have changed things but I can't think of anything else. I wanted to get ubuntu working and switch to it but the fact that you need to be a computer geek to use it (and I'm obviously not geek enough with 10 years of programming experience and I don't have any more weeks of my life I'm prepared to waste on it) and the fact that this bug is not considered important enough to be dealt with in an update, means it's back to windows for me. This network card was (and still is as far as I know) the standard one for mesh computers in the uk and they supply a large number of pc's. Still there we go. [Bug 269388] [NEW] Xorg eats CPU when using EXA
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Since the last batch of updates (where all the xorg video drivers got updated), I'm experiencing lagspikes in my ubuntu environment. I've traced this back to Xorg using up to 97% CPU on certain moments. This only happens when I'm using the EXA acceleration method, instead of the default XAA one. With the default XAA, all works very smoothly. But now, with EXA enabled, Xorg often spikes to 100% CPU, mainly when opening applications, scrolling or opening textfiles, or spawning new GTK widgets. I'm using the EXA acceleration to be able to playback video when using Compiz. I've also filed a bug to use EXA as default accelerator: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+bug/269357 The Xorg option I used to force EXA: Option AccelMethod EXA System details: Xorg window system 1:7.4~2ubuntu1 RADEON display driver 1:6.9.0+git20080826.a3cc1d7a-2ubuntu2 Sapphire X1650 Pro Ubuntu Intreprid, fully updated ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: cpu exa xaa xorg -- Xorg eats CPU when using EXA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269388 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 254668] Re: [2.6.27] pausing during boot (several issues)
There should be no difference between rc6 and the kernel I supplied (at least nothing additional which is not in upstream). Are your pauses the same as for Carl, meaning the boot process stops but can be triggered with any keyboard key. And after boot everything looks ok? Or is there no way to boot successfully without the noapictimer option?
