Also, it doesn't happen if I run nautilus My Pictures/2001 Pawnee, while it would happen if I navigated to that directory. Public bug reported: Using Kubuntu here. Steps to reproduce: 1. Check your brightness setting in power manager (e.g. 100%) 2. Wait some time for powersave to blank the screen, or close the lid (suspend/hibernate must be disabled). 3. Awake the screen, now the LCD brightness is very dim. 4. Power manager still reports a brightness of 100% 5. Move the brightness slider in power manager, or use the Fn-F7 shortcut; brightness will jump to the given setting. It happens both on battery and plugged in, in a first boot without having suspended/hibernated previously, every time. Laptop is a toshiba satellite u200. Okay, I have to edit my last statement. Suddenly I am now getting
crackling and pops with two audio streams playing at once. In this case
rhythmbox and pidgin playing sound at the same time. Reverting to
Intrepid's current pulseaudio resolved that issue.
The only thing relevant (I think) I changed between working perfectly and the
crackling was editing my asound.conf to read:

}
ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
type pulse
}
This was required to get audio working with flashplugin-nonfree.

Still an issue. In general, date and time strings are generated all over GNOME with simple gettext tokens. I don't see this going away until we add stuff to GLib.
