Re: [Bug 293160] Re: sudo wont give up asking for you password even after several worng attempts or if you are not a sudoer
Yes, it only happened after the upgrade from 804 to 810, and yes, I had to reboot (changed kernels) I am now waiting for my laptop to complete the upgrade to verify if this happens there as well (gimme an hour or so) I have checked that in my /etc/syslog.conf I have: auth, authpriv.* /var/log/auth.log But this only logs the successes and fails to authenticate (even sudo) but it does not gimme any clues on what sudo could be doing wrong Is there anywhere to look for it (besides the sudo src)? Is the sudo package atomic (stands by it self when executed once compiled) or it comes molular with many dependencies (besides libc6 >= 2.7-1, libpam-modules and libpam0g (>= 0.99.7.1)? Is the only version availabe at ../ubuntu intrepid main restricted? [Bug 293310] [NEW] goes to foreground at reload but is not focussed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I have the following situation. Evince is displaying a PDF file but the window is in the background. I generate a new version of the PDF in the foreground. When the file changes, evince automatically reloads and its window appears in the foreground. I can't agree more. I was very happy to recommend ubuntu for laptops as stuff just worked. Now it seems that laptops are getting less and less support under ubuntu. Ah, it turns out the reason why that workaround fails is because the i810 driver's been discontinued. [Bug 291480] Re: ATI Radeon 9200 does not work so-good as in other Linux distros
About the driver I do use, :~$ glxinfo | grep render IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 0 16 direct rendering: Yes OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20060602 AGP 8x x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE TCL I just've installed Ubuntu 8.10 without modification (I installed the normal multimedia codecs and also, for Firefox, the Flash player plugin and Java, to see web videos). The result of fglrxinfo it is (in Spanish): :~$ fglrxinfo El programa «fglrxinfo» puede encontrarse en los siguientes paquetes: * xorg-driver-fglrx * xorg-driver-fglrx-envy Pruebe: sudo apt-get install bash: fglrxinfo: orden no encontrada So I don't have installed fglrxinfo. The glxgears output with the default video settings (I guess you refer to the FPS using glxgears command): :~$ glxgears IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 0 16 4734 frames in 5.0 seconds = 946.634 FPS 5280 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1055.868 FPS 5323 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1064.454 FPS 5309 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1061.649 FPS 5301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1060.191 FPS 5285 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1056.930 FPS Otherwise, the output of the video, as you advise, it's: ~$ glxgears IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 0 16 4480 frames in 5.0 seconds = 895.928 FPS 5265 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1052.914 FPS 5306 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1061.022 FPS 5365 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1072.865 FPS 5326 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1065.139 FPS 5249 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1049.729 FPS Before that, trying to get better video performance I have installed DRIconf and I've set up all its settings to the minimum: minimum image quality, minimum texture units (2), using HiperZ to enhance performance, etc. all of which has been a bit helpful as before that the frames in 5.0 seconds didn't go higher than 4200 or so (at its best). Now the OS goes notably faster, scrolling the windows not longer lag. But the videos still had a quite poor FPS, the video buttons mostly don't respond when full size video is displaying (about 3 seconds delay to respond since clicking on stop or when trying to change volume.. Sometimes even fail to respond and so one has to click several times). With the gstreamer-properties set to W windows (without Xv) perhaps the Youtube videos go slightly faster.. The sliding bar for the volume and the other buttons it lag (just) about 2 second now. The images go also a bit quicker, but not smooth. And still each few seconds the image freezes for an instant at its own or when passing the mouse over (or trying to click) a button. -- ATI Radeon 9200 does not work so-good as in other Linux distros https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291480 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 292574] Re: Totem flickers
Dear Developers! I googled for flickering gstreamer, and found this bug. The simptoms are similar, 8.10, amd64, ati driver and gstreamer. Other suggested that replacing the video output driver from default (xv->x11 or anything) should help. They were right, all players (Árpi's mplayer, xine) with this setting altered could play the movie without flickering. ups. You caught me with my pants down. [Bug 279187] Re: regression: usplash causes system to beep and hang
Gosh!! I was being driven crazy by this bug! On my laptop with nVidia GeForce8400M GS this happens randomly at bootup, shutdown, while entering suspend and simply logging off and on. Since this happens also in occasions other than bootup and shutdown I guess it is not so tightly related to the usplash module. This always happens with restricted 'nvidia' drivers, always with version 177, seldom with 173. Today's updates from nvidia-glx-173 (173.14.12-1-0ubuntu4) to 173.14.12-1-0ubuntu5 made the problem to always appear also with driver 173. -- regression: usplash causes system to beep and hang https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279187 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Also worth noting is that there should be no dummy username and password, only the PIN should be entered. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- 3G with option PCMCIA modem and ISP Telia doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292081 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 293213] Re: k-d-s applies incorrect xmodmap that breaks macbook brightness keys
Even worse, I don't even know how to properly categorize this horrific brokenness, maybe an experienced QT4 soul can handle this: Qt4 doesn't even capture the XF86MonBrightness* keys -- to the keyboard shortcut applet they don't exist (i.e. you can't grab those keys as shortcuts) -- the Qt4::Keys_* items don't exist for those keysyms either. In addition, Kubuntu uses nonstandard hackish mappings XF86Launch4 and XF86Launch5 in Guidance for the other set of common brightness keys (mapped in xmodmap), and those are actually in Qt Key_Launch6 and Key_Launch7?? Something really weird and wacky is going on in the handling of brightness keys all the way down to the QT stack which, to this GNOME user, looks like resulted in a large stack of hacks to get to where we are today. IMO this needs to be fixed at the Qt level to recognize the XF86MonBrightness{Up,Down} keys properly, so that we can stop using Xmodmap hacks that incidentally don't seem to work! -- k-d-s applies incorrect xmodmap that breaks macbook brightness keys https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293213 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kubuntu-default-settings in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 293300] [NEW] xserver-xorg fails to correctly configure dual-monitors
Public bug reported: In Intrepid, I'm trying to configure my nVidia GeForce 6800 to display via its DVI and VGA output, two monitors. When the computer boots, the screens are mirrored, but when GDM loads, the screens become scrambled and can not be used. In fact, I'm in tty1 right now. I tried the setup with Windows XP and it worked after nVidia's configuration wizard was ran. I am using a default install of Intrepid using the 'free software only' option, thus no proprietary drivers are in use - only main and universe software. The monitors are Dell 1905FP (1280x1024) and LG Flatron W1934S (1440x900). I will attach my 'sudo lscpi -vvnn' and 'xorg.conf' file. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xserver-xorg fails to correctly configure dual-monitors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 293302] [NEW] [intrepid] laptop keyboard stops responding
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop, and I just upgraded to intrepid. When I leave my laptop unattended for any length of time, my keyboard stops functioning, and my Gnome drop down menus do not work. I am unable to switch to terminal via ctrl + alt + f2. When I click Applications, Places, System, or the logout button, the button shows that it is depressed, but no menu appears. The only way that I am able to restart is by pressing the power button and waiting 60 seconds for it to automatically reboot. The install is pretty clean. Hardy worked fine. I think this might only happen when I close the screen on my laptop (it is not set to go into hibernation or standby or anything like that). [Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
1) I use my laptop almost the entire time on battery power. I bought one of this small, long-lasting Netbooks, which you can take everywhere and which you will not often use with power cable attached: an EeePC 1000H. 2) With Windows XP, i don't hear any clicks. There seem to be no load cycles while the laptop is on. 3) With default Intrepid, the head is parked every few seconds, far too much. I just can't see, how this should enhance battery power. I changed that to the save Windows XP behavior. 4) If Ubuntu could park the head and leave it there for some time, everything would be fine. Unfortunately, there is just too much disk access rendering the head parking thing entirely useless and destroying the hard disk. 5) If Ubuntu uses the hard disk that differently from Windows XP, and puts my hard disk at risk, I call it a bug. Intentionally implementing is even worse. I also found out, that while -B 191 parks the head roughly as often as -B 128, -B 192 doesn't park it at all. 6) Conclusion: fix this. As it seems, some hard disks work entirely different on this matter as others. The only way to fix this bug ist therefore the openSUSE way: Use a Blacklist that knows, how to handle specific disks and apart from that use safe values. Safe values as in: "Utilize the disk the same way Windows does, because that's what the manufacturer had in mind." -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 73457] Re: MASTER "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" when /home is an NFS directory
I apologize for resurrecting this bug report from the dead, but I anticipate that if I file a new report it will just be marked as a duplicate of this one :) I recently upgraded a few machines to Intrepid and am now experiencing this problem. Same symptoms - 90% of the time firefox says it's already running or refuses to start at all (no windows or anything). Firefox is already not running. There's no stale lockfiles. Remounting the NFS file system with nolock mitigates the problem, but that's obviously not an acceptable long-term solution Setup: Client: Intrepid Ibex up-to-date amd64 with /home mounted NFS Server: FreeBSD 7 with a UFS2 volume exported Could someone confirm and/or reopen the bug? I am very willing to help troubleshoot, but I'll need some guidance - I don't know too much about NFS locking.
