[Bug 300672] Re: 945GM blank screen after resume, Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets to login
Hi Magnus, I will double check the behavior regarding your questions. In any case, I can tell you up front that the computer is quite responsive after resume (CapsLock led, ssh, etc.) it's just that the screen remains blank and, obviously, not very usable ;-) Trying to get at least a VT is when I hit the Ctrl-Alt-F1 combination and got my normal login dialog (the one you get after resume). This behavior has been consistent ever since. Every time I resume a get the blank screen then hit C-A-F1 and log in as usual. It's as if the the X terminal is now on F1 rather than the usual F7 or higher. In fact, I can't get a VT with F1-F5 anymore. I will do a complete test from a complete restart a report back. In the meantime, please find attached my dmesg log. [Bug 294925] Re: nvidia 3D/compiz performance is greatly reduced in Intrepid
I'm removing the COD4 benchmark results. I discovered that the Hardy 64bit had a lot of native Windows DLLs installed in its .wine folder: copying this .wine folder across to Intrepid sped up the fps to similar speeds as Hardy was getting (I'm using nvidia 180.08, but it was giving the same results as the 177.80 and 173.14.12 drivers). [Bug 295756] Re: Geforce 5200 drivers screwing up
Thank you for uploading those files, now we can work on it. First of all, I'm not exactly pro with this stuff, I got my experience from dealing with problems with my own hardware. To make sure this is a bug here, we should get your configurations straight. I see two problems here: 1.) Your xorg.conf is pretty stuffed, I'm not sure whether we get your system to run with this one. 2.) You seem to have installed the nvidia - driver for your Geforce, but to me it seems like the card used for your graphigs server is still the internal Intel graphics card. I'd suggest the following things: - Check in with buddies of you using Ubuntu or Linux, maybe they can help you with your problem - Check in with your local Ubuntu forum, wiki or IRC. There are loads of nice people that can help you. Wiki articles that might be of interest for you are about building a xorg.conf, the nvidia drivers, etc. You can always upload your Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf to show them the relevant information about your graphics server. Furthermore, you could try this (without quotation marks): sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.mybackup to make a working backup if your X server won't start. If anything goes wrong, you can restore it to what it was by sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.mybackup /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Now open your xorg.conf with sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change in Section screen # the value device1 to Configured Video Device (note that you'll need the quotation marks this time) to get your nvidia - card with the nvidia driver to work in your graphic server. Save the file, reboot your system. Maybe this'll do the trick. I have to warn you though, this could make your graphic interface stop working, and I even don't know if your problem can be fixed that easy with a xorg.conf stuffed like yours. You can always try to disable your internal Intel card via Bios (Check your manual how to do it) and give a fresh install of Hardy a try. -- Geforce 5200 drivers screwing up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As I was attempting (in galeon) to add an 'Also affects project' link, I got _another_ crash. This time the error from galeon as 'Segmentation fault'. [Bug 301601] [NEW] Checking Battery State [OK] X Crashing
Public bug reported: I've just done a fresh install of Kubuntu Intrepid on my Acer Travelmate 530. The problem I have now is the screen randomly goes black and a single line of text saying Checking Battery State [OK] appears at the top for a few seconds, then X restarts and I am left at the login screen. The crashing occurs whether I'm on mains power or battery. I've done a full update upgrade dist-upgrade, but that didn't help. I've also turn on proposed updates, and re-upgraded, also to no effect. I know that its not a hardware issue, as before Intrepid I was a happy Gutsy and Hardy user on this same laptop, (and Dual boot XP works fine as well). [Bug 300672] Re: 945GM blank screen after resume, Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets to login
Well, something has changed. The X terminal is back on F7; but still not working right. I restarted and cycled through the Ctrl-Alt-Fx combinations: F1-F6 - tty1-tty6 F7 - blank screen F8 - boot messages F9-F12 - blank screen I went back to F7 and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart X: worked. However, if a switch to any other Fx it goes back to a blank screen on F7. Then I tested suspend-resume: On resume I get a blank screen (not even backlight). If I hit C-A-F7 right after resume I don't get any response. However, if I switch to any other Fx, I get a blank screen and only then I can go back to F7 to get my normal login screen. So now in other to get my login screen after resume I have to switch to any Fx and then back to F7. I'm re-attaching my Xorg.0.log in case it contains new information. [Bug 231732] Re: v-scrolling on hp dv6700 touchpad will not re-activate
I can confirm this issue myself, and am including an Xorg.0.log and my xorg.conf. This doesn't seem to only be related to turning off the keys -- I tend to leave my laptop on for 5-7 days before a reboot, and typically after day 2-4 I will lose the scroll. I have figured out purely by accident that I can regain it, by dropping to TTY(1-6) then swapping back to the X session. The scroll line instantly becomes available again. The issue doesn't seem to have a specific trigger that I can spot that causes the loss of the scroll ability, as it occurs during an assortment of use situations (heavy use during browsing, or periodic and not making contact for some time while in a terminal). I will generate a bare Xorg.0.log as well. ** Attachment added: xorg.conf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19899041/xorg.conf -- v-scrolling on hp dv6700 touchpad will not re-activate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231732 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 301615] [NEW] Compiz crashes when mouse scrolled when left or right of screen with rotate cube enabled
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex running a stock compiz (v0.7.8) with the optional compizconfig-settings-manager package installed. All updates installed at time of writing. Video Driver: Nvidia 177. Hardware specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, Asus A8N-E motherboard, Nvidia GeForce 7800GTX. This bug only seems to occur with the rotate cube plugin enabled from the compizconfig-settings-manager. This bug results in a complete crash of compiz (desktop returns to metacity) when the mouse wheel is used to scroll with the cursor situated to the far left or right of screen. This only occurs with the rotate cube plugin enabled which leads me to believe the bug resides within that plugin. It can be noted that the following error appears after this crash appears (terminal output): Segmentation fault Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file /home/simon/.config/metacity/sessions/1084c07634384d7be12275071466112790065030004.ms: Failed to open file '/home/simon/.config/metacity/sessions/1084c07634384d7be12275071466112790065030004.ms': No such file or directory Steps to reproduce: 1/ Run compiz from the intrepid repositories. 2/ Enable the rotate cube plugin. 3/ Situate cursor to far left/right of screen. 4/ Use mouse scroll wheel in either direction. I am unfamiliar with the locations of compiz log files so if you want them just ask giving their locations. ** Affects: compiz-fusion-plugins-main (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Compiz crashes when mouse scrolled when left or right of screen with rotate cube enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
