[Bug 300672] Re: 945GM blank screen after resume, Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets to login

2008-11-24 Thread Alfonso Eusebio
Hi Magnus,

I will double check the behavior regarding your questions. In any case,
I can tell you up front that the computer is quite responsive after
resume (CapsLock led, ssh, etc.) it's just that the screen remains blank
and, obviously, not very usable ;-)

Trying to get at least a VT is when I hit the Ctrl-Alt-F1 combination
and got my normal login dialog (the one you get after resume). This
behavior has been consistent ever since. Every time I resume a get the
blank screen then hit C-A-F1 and log in as usual.

It's as if the the X terminal is now on F1 rather than the usual F7 or
higher. In fact, I can't get a VT with F1-F5 anymore.

I will do a complete test from a complete restart a report back.
In the meantime, please find attached my dmesg log.

Thanks regards,
Alfonso

[Bug 294925] Re: nvidia 3D/compiz performance is greatly reduced in Intrepid

2008-11-24 Thread Rocko
I'm removing the COD4 benchmark results. I discovered that the Hardy
64bit had a lot of native Windows DLLs installed in its .wine folder:
copying this .wine folder across to Intrepid sped up the fps to similar
speeds as Hardy was getting (I'm using nvidia 180.08, but it was giving
the same results as the 177.80 and 173.14.12 drivers).

I still get the slower OpenArena results, though, and in both Hardy and
Intrepid I installed OpenArena using Synaptic and used the same
benchmark configuration files.

[Bug 231060] Re: packages dnsmasq and libvirt-bin conflict with each other

2008-11-24 Thread Thierry Carrez
dnsmasq 2.46-1 (soon in an archive near you) implements a /etc/dnsmasq.d
directory that allows to drop configuration snippets from other
packages. This opens ways for more collaboration between the two
packages.

Following advice in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=505522
We could for example have:

/etc/dnsmasq.d/libvirt
  bind-interfaces
  except-interface=virtual bridge

and libvirt would start its dnsmasq using --interface=virtual-bridge

[Bug 301596] [NEW] crashes with pure virtual method called; terminate called without an active exception

2008-11-24 Thread Vince McIntyre
Public bug reported:

version is 2.0.6-2 on i386.
System is running the Intrepid release, all packages up to date.

I was connected to an HTTPS site. After a few form submissions, the browser
crashes and burns,
On the terminal I launched the program from was this message:

  pure virtual method called
terminate called without an active exception

The startup sequence:
ub$ /bin/rm -rf ~/.galeon
ub$ galeon
** (galeon:11973): WARNING **: I could not load the bookmarks file, will load
the default bookmarks from /usr/share/galeon/default-bookmarks.xbel.

I'm reporting this because I was getting the same kind of problem (sudden
crash) with firefox,
which I finally got sick of and uninstalled. I didn't see any error messages
from firefox.

This also happens with epiphany, it fails with 'Segmentation fault'.

[Bug 293588] Re: script crash with assertion botched message

2008-11-24 Thread Matt C
I can confirm this issue.

malloc: ../bash/dispose_cmd.c:241: assertion botched
free: called with unallocated block argument
Aborting...Aborted

It is affecting the one-line convenience scripts I have in
/home/user/bin, most of which don't bother with the #!/bin/bash line.
They work in all other versions of Linux I've used, used to work in
8.04, but they fail after an upgrade to 8.10.

Simple scripts fail like this one:

ssh -l username -x hostname

Info to ubuntu
Vielen Dank für Ihr Interesse an Ubuntu 8.10, dem Intrepid Ibex

upgraded to jaunty?)

When I started the update-manager this morning expecting to carry out my
habitual daily upgrade of the OS, an error message appeared stating that the
packages cache be damaged. I therefore ended the update-manager and opened a
terminal from which per sudo to use apt-get to check, update and then upgrade
everything.

the message pertaining to python3.0 3.0-rc1+20081027-0ubuntu1 then
appeared ...:

Versuche, ?/usr/lib/python3.0/lib-dynload/_pickle.so? zu ?berschreiben,
welches auch in Paket python3.0-minimal ist

My assumption: the cache got somehow damaged independently of any
correlation to the specific package that as a result could not get
updated/installed, in this case python(...). I am guessing that I need
to use dpkg somehow to re-create the cache as a whole or something, but
just in case I be in error I am sending this python related error
message along.

[Bug 291269] Re: Logitech MX5500 keyboard/mouse does not work with 8.10 install cd (amd64)

2008-11-24 Thread mous16
I've the same problem. Actually I unplug and replug the Logitech receiver at
every boot.
I've another BT receiver plugged-in, but, if it's possible, I prefer use the
Logitech receiver.
I suppose that it's a bug related to HAL and X.org 7.4 or evdev modules,
because on previous releases all works fine.

[Bug 295756] Re: Geforce 5200 drivers screwing up

2008-11-24 Thread C. Reis
Thank you for uploading those files, now we can work on it.
First of all, I'm not exactly pro with this stuff, I got my experience from
dealing with problems with my own hardware.

To make sure this is a bug here, we should get your configurations straight.
I see two problems here:
1.) Your xorg.conf is pretty stuffed, I'm not sure whether we get your system
to run with this one.
2.) You seem to have installed the nvidia - driver for your Geforce, but to me
it seems like the card used for your graphigs server is still the internal
Intel graphics card.

I'd suggest the following things:

- Check in with buddies of you using Ubuntu or Linux, maybe they can help you
with your problem
- Check in with your local Ubuntu forum, wiki or IRC. There are loads of nice
people that can help you. Wiki articles that might be of interest for you are
about building a xorg.conf, the nvidia drivers, etc. You can always upload your
Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf to show them the relevant information about your
graphics server.

Furthermore, you could try this (without quotation marks): sudo cp
/etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.mybackup to make a working backup if
your X server won't start. If anything goes wrong, you can restore it to what
it was by sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.mybackup /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Now open your xorg.conf with sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change in
Section screen # the value device1 to Configured Video Device (note that
you'll need the quotation marks this time) to get your nvidia - card with the
nvidia driver to work in your graphic server.

Save the file, reboot your system. Maybe this'll do the trick.
I have to warn you though, this could make your graphic interface stop working,
and I even don't know if your problem can be fixed that easy with a xorg.conf
stuffed like yours.

You can always try to disable your internal Intel card via Bios (Check
your manual how to do it) and give a fresh install of Hardy a try.

[Bug 301596] Re: crashes with pure virtual method called; terminate called without an active exception

2008-11-24 Thread Vince McIntyre
As I was attempting (in galeon) to add an 'Also affects project' link, I got
_another_ crash.
This time the error from galeon as 'Segmentation fault'.

I haven't seen this behaviour before, the machine has been quite
stable since the release in October, even though I have been updating
regularly as new packages for Intrepid come out.

The 'Also affects project' link was new to me, I thought it was a way to

I can't see any need to link this to upstream projects at this time.

The other packages I noticed this affecting were

firefox 3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1

[Bug 301602] [NEW] enabling proposed only adds deb line to apt.source, deb-src missing

2008-11-24 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Public bug reported:

When ticking the 'Proposed updates (intrepid-proposed)' tick box the
line below is added to sources.list:

deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-proposed
restricted main multiverse universe

but no equivalent deb-src line is added. These are added for security
correctly. This prevents you trivially getting the source for the
version of a package you are running should it be in -proposed.

[Bug 301601] [NEW] Checking Battery State [OK] X Crashing

2008-11-24 Thread grahamt
Public bug reported:

I've just done a fresh install of Kubuntu Intrepid on my Acer Travelmate
530.

The problem I have now is the screen randomly goes black and a single
line of text saying Checking Battery State [OK] appears at the top for
a few seconds, then X restarts and I am left at the login screen.

The crashing occurs whether I'm on mains power or battery.

I've done a full update upgrade dist-upgrade, but that didn't help.

I've also turn on proposed updates, and re-upgraded, also to no effect.

I know that its not a hardware issue, as before Intrepid I was a happy
Gutsy and Hardy user on this same laptop, (and Dual boot XP works fine
as well).

At least one other person has the same bug.

[Bug 301594] Re: FHS violation?

2008-11-24 Thread Chris Jones
I have filed this upstream at http://www.cups.org/str.php?L3018 but
Launchpad does not appear to want to link directly to that bug,
presumably because cups use a weird bug tracker that LP does not

Either way, I do not thing the bug should be marked Invalid in Ubuntu,
since the bug does exist there. It is useful for tracking purposes if
nothing else.

[Bug 298928] Re: apt-get produce an error when I tray install or unisntall slapd

2008-11-24 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report.

The cause of the failure is:
=
Desempaquetando slapd (de .../slapd_2.4.11-0ubuntu6_i386.deb) ...
Procesando activadores para man-db ...
Configurando slapd (2.4.11-0ubuntu6) ...
Backing up /etc/ldap/slapd.d/ in /var/backups/slapd-2.4.11-0ubuntu6... done.
chown: no se puede acceder a «/var/run/slapd»: No existe el fichero ó directorio
dpkg: error al procesar slapd (--configure):
el subproceso post-installation script devolvió el código de salida de error 1
=

This is due to /var/run being of type tmpfs . The fix is to modify the
initscript to create the directory in /var/run/ if it does not exist,
and then remove anything to do with /var/run from the postinst.

Musictracker has a new upstream, and is now known as pidgin-
musictracker. Changing sourcepackage.

Could you please test if this problem still exists with pidgin-
musictracker 0.4.11-1 in Jaunty (once it builds and you are able)?
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 300672] Re: 945GM blank screen after resume, Ctrl-Alt-F1 gets to login

2008-11-24 Thread Alfonso Eusebio
Well, something has changed. The X terminal is back on F7; but still not
working right.

I restarted and cycled through the Ctrl-Alt-Fx combinations:
F1-F6 - tty1-tty6
F7 - blank screen
F8 - boot messages
F9-F12 - blank screen

I went back to F7 and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart X: worked.
However, if a switch to any other Fx it goes back to a blank screen on F7.

Then I tested suspend-resume:

On resume I get a blank screen (not even backlight). If I hit C-A-F7 right
after resume I don't get any response.
However, if I switch to any other Fx, I get a blank screen and only then I can
go back to F7 to get my normal login screen.

So now in other to get my login screen after resume I have to switch to
any Fx and then back to F7.

I'm re-attaching my Xorg.0.log in case it contains new information.

Thanks regards,
Alfonso

[Bug 231732] Re: v-scrolling on hp dv6700 touchpad will not re-activate

2008-11-24 Thread corruption
I can confirm this issue myself, and am including an Xorg.0.log and my
xorg.conf. This doesn't seem to only be related to turning off the keys
-- I tend to leave my laptop on for 5-7 days before a reboot, and
typically after day 2-4 I will lose the scroll. I have figured out
purely by accident that I can regain it, by dropping to TTY(1-6) then
swapping back to the X session. The scroll line instantly becomes
available again. The issue doesn't seem to have a specific trigger that
I can spot that causes the loss of the scroll ability, as it occurs
during an assortment of use situations (heavy use during browsing, or
periodic and not making contact for some time while in a terminal). I
will generate a bare Xorg.0.log as well.

[Bug 301609] [NEW] thunderbird is unable to authenticate on LDAP via SASL

2008-11-24 Thread nodens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Hi,

Thunderbird's Address book does not know how to authenticate via SASL. It only
use simple ldap authentication.
It would be nice to be able to authenticate with a SASL user name when it's
proposed by the serveur. This could also be configured with a checkbox (as is
the SSL usage).

Cheers,

[Bug 301615] [NEW] Compiz crashes when mouse scrolled when left or right of screen with rotate cube enabled

2008-11-24 Thread Simon Allen
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex running a stock compiz (v0.7.8) with the optional
compizconfig-settings-manager package installed. All updates installed at time
of writing.
Video Driver: Nvidia 177.
Hardware specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, Asus A8N-E motherboard, Nvidia GeForce
7800GTX.

This bug only seems to occur with the rotate cube plugin enabled from
the compizconfig-settings-manager.

This bug results in a complete crash of compiz (desktop returns to
metacity) when the mouse wheel is used to scroll with the cursor
situated to the far left or right of screen. This only occurs with the
rotate cube plugin enabled which leads me to believe the bug resides
within that plugin.

It can be noted that the following error appears after this crash
appears (terminal output):

Segmentation fault
Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file
/home/simon/.config/metacity/sessions/1084c07634384d7be12275071466112790065030004.ms:
 Failed to open file
'/home/simon/.config/metacity/sessions/1084c07634384d7be12275071466112790065030004.ms':
 No such file or directory

Steps to reproduce:
1/ Run compiz from the intrepid repositories.
2/ Enable the rotate cube plugin.
3/ Situate cursor to far left/right of screen.
4/ Use mouse scroll wheel in either direction.

I am unfamiliar with the locations of compiz log files so if you want
them just ask giving their locations.

[Bug 301421] Re: dropdown email suggest not closing after address selected

2008-11-24 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
thanks for your report, that works fine here, not confirming, does it
works fine with another new user created on your system? which video
card do you have and which driver are you using? do you have the
desktop efffects enabled? does it happens without them? thanks.

[Bug 232073] Re: package vifm 0.3-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2008-11-24 Thread Kjell Braden
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the latest
release - Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
